Design & Comfort Feels very comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions. Solid build, with good buttons, triggers, and thumbsticks. Screen Big 8-inch display, very sharp and colorful. 120Hz refresh rate makes games look smooth. Performance Runs most modern games well, similar to the Steam Deck. Some games run faster than Steam Deck, but not always. Can get hot and noisy when playing heavy games. Battery Life About 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the game. Not the best for long trips without charging. Software Windows version is a bit clunky and not very user-friendly on a small screen. The SteamOS version is smoother and feels better for gaming. Price Around $600 (Windows version). Some think it’s a little expensive for what it offers. Pros Super comfortable design Bright, smooth display Strong controls (great triggers, sticks, buttons) Good game performance Cons Windows version feels awkward to use Gets hot and loud Short battery life Pricey compared to Steam Deck Bottom Line: The Legion Go S is one of the most comfortable handheld gaming PCs with a fantastic screen. It’s powerful enough for modern games, but the Windows version isn’t as smooth to use. If you can, go for the SteamOS version, which is better optimized for gaming.

I’ve had the Legion Go S for about a month now and I’ve been really happy with it. I play a mix of AAA and indie games on it. I still use my PC for competitive titles since I’m used to gaming at 240fps, but for everything else this has been great. Performance has been smooth across the board with no stuttering or crashes. The only minor issues I ran into were with a few older games on SteamOS that needed small compatibility tweaks. Once adjusted, they ran fine. The screen is easily one of the best parts. Colors look great, everything is sharp, and it gets bright enough to use comfortably. Coming from high refresh rate PC gaming, I can say the 120Hz display feels smooth and responsive. I’ve only used it handheld so far and it’s comfortable for one to two hour sessions without any discomfort. The build quality feels solid and well made. It does not feel cheap. Since this is my first handheld, I expected some setup hassle, but it was simple and pretty much plug and play. Battery life depends on the mode you use. On performance mode I get around two hours. Lower power settings give me more time. I do wish the battery lasted a bit longer, but I also have not fully optimized the settings yet. What I enjoy most is being able to turn it on, sit on the couch or lay in bed, and just play through my backlog without being stuck at my desk. It makes gaming feel more relaxed and convenient. I would recommend this to anyone who wants the freedom to game anywhere and work through their Steam library in a flexible way. It has been a great addition to my setup.

Whoa, I got this Lenovo Legion Go S and it is awesome. I thought my Switch was cool, but this is like a super-computer for your hands. It's way, way, way more powerful. What I love: THE SCREEN! It's REALLY big (8 inches!) and everything is so smooth it looks fake. They said it's 120Hz and it just means no lag, just zoom zoom when I play. IT'S SO FAST. It has a Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip and 32GB of RAM. I don't know exactly what all that tech stuff means, but I can tell you it's crazy fast. It plays all my big PC games from Steam perfectly. SO MUCH SPACE. It comes with 1TB! I've downloaded a ton of games and still have lots of room. Easy to use. You just log into SteamOS and bam, all your games are right there. What's not so perfect: The battery... With this giant bright screen and being so fast, the battery does go byyye-byyye pretty fast when I'm playing a big game. I have to keep it plugged in a lot, which is kind of a bummer. The price. It costs $899.99. That is... a lot of money. It was more than a PS5! You have to really want it. So, should you get it? YES! If you want the ultimate handheld that can play everything and has the best, coolest-looking screen, this thing is a monster. It's so cool. I love it!

I've been using this for about a month now and I'm very happy with it. I am not a serious gamer, mostly emulator play and a few older console games. I travel a lot, however, so for casual gaming to pass the time, this is perfect. I gave it 4 stars, however, because the battery life is definitely noticeable. I may get an hour of playing games like Far Cry 3 and Trials Fusion before I have to plug in. That being said, the screen is gorgeous, the ergonmics fit my larger hands beautifully and I dont notice the weight at all even though it is heavier than competitors like the Steam Deck. SteamOS runs perfectly as well.

    Key Observations and Analysis

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Big, Comfortable Screen (Pro) "Good big screen" highlights one of the device's greatest strengths. The larger display of the Legion Go is a significant advantage, providing a more immersive and comfortable viewing experience compared to smaller handhelds. This is a primary draw for many gamers. Ergonomics and Feel (Pro) The "comfortable handle" is also a crucial positive, suggesting that despite its larger size, Lenovo has maintained a comfortable grip for extended gaming sessions. This directly addresses one of the most important aspects of a handheld device. Performance and Power (Major Pro) • Stalker: Call of Pripyat Performance: Achieving 70+ FPS on high settings in an enhanced edition of a game like Stalker: Call of Pripyat is an excellent result. This demonstrates the superior raw power of the Legion Go's AMD Z1 Extreme or Z2 Go APU, especially when paired with the optimized SteamOS. • Adjustable TDP to 40W (Maximum Performance): The ability to adjust the Thermal Design Power (TDP) up to 40W while connected to the charger is a game-changer. This unlocked power ceiling allows the device to transform into a much more powerful system when docked or near an outlet, giving it a significant performance edge over handhelds limited to lower wattages. This feature directly enables the high framerates you observed. Acoustics (Con) • "A bit noisy on the performance mode": This is a common trade-off for high-performance handhelds. Pushing the TDP to 40W generates considerable heat, requiring the fans to spin rapidly. While it's necessary to maintain those high frame rates, the increased noise level is the price of admission for maximum performance. This may necessitate using headphones for a less distracting experience. Final Verdict The Lenovo Legion Go with the Steam version appears to be an excellent, high-performance choice for the serious handheld gamer. Its combination of a large, comfortable chassis, an excellent screen, and the ability to unlock up to 40W of TDP makes it a powerhouse capable of pushing frame rates well beyond its competitors in many titles.

I got the Legion Go S Z2Go on an open box deal in-store at Best Buy. Despite lots of talk about the processor and RAM, I have found that the Z2Go has run anything I have thrown at it with zero tinkering. I’m not especially picky about frame rates, but I haven’t noticed any huge lag or frame drops so far. The large screen is amazing and I love being able to game on my couch while I watch tv or relax in the evening. There are a few games that were tricky to run with native controller settings, but Steam is upfront about the playability of games in their store description. Battery life is variable - I can get a few hours with smaller games like Brotato or Dome Keeper, but it definitely is limited with more graphic intensive titles. Also, the fan does make some noise when downloading games or updates but I don’t really notice it when I anm just playing a game. Overall I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would recommend to anyone.

(Very) Worthy Rival to Steam Deck

I've have my Go S for about 4 months now, and I regret nothing about the purchase. I had been deciding between this and the Steam Deck OLED, went with this because of the larger screen size and super glad that I did. The battery life is less than ideal, which is really the only con for me. It performs super well, much better than I anticipated. The fan is quiet but is running a good bit of the time, though the device has never even gotten warm nevermind hot. Steam loads just as it would on Deck, and run seamlessly. I haven't done much in the way of emulation but do have EmmuDecky and it works great with this device and allows you a few more customizations than Legion gave us. If you're debating between this and Steam Deck OLED, (yeah I know this is more money, but hear me out) you'll get a larger screen and a better display, which is some kind of sourcery given that it's not an OLED display. The hit you'll take is battery life, so I guess it depends on what games you're and where you plan on playing the most. For me it's a bit of a built in timer getting me to take a break for a bit. Fully charges from less than 10% in about 50 minutes. Definitely recommned to any casual gamer; especially if you're looking to pop on your Steam library for a play sesh.

I used to have a steam deck and I think this device is better. The performance is slightly better, the screen is beautiful, and it is very comfortable. People complain about battery life but I think it is just as good as these kinds of handhelds can get. It’s life depends on the game you are playing.

I think the legion go S with the Z2GO CPU has the best balance of functionality comfort and price of the gaming handhelds released this year. It runs steam so for people coming from consoles, you get the ease of use of not having to deal with windows which is terrible on handhelds. Performance wise I have been using it this way to manage battery life, If I am not plugged in I use the "balanced profile" to keep it at 15Watts and I get 2,5 Hours of play time. If I need more performance I switch it to 30 Watts in the performance profile and plugged in. The performance of the chip is very good and I have been able to run fairly recent games well by tuning the settings. In the end it is up to the user to decide between performance and battery life.

An absolute great handheld, especially for the price. If you love Steam and just simply want to play games without much hassle, this is definitely for you. It’s plug and play from the moment you turn on the game. It immediately takes you to the Steam app and you can either buy games or download and play the games you have. The display is great. It’s not OLED but that’s perfectly fine. The controls are smooth. Games run smoothly. You can’t natively run Gamepass or other gaming apps unless you know what you’re doing. But you can stick to Steam and be perfectly content. The only issues are the battery life and the fan noise level. Regardless of that, you will still enjoy.

I play mostly cozy games, but I am able to play persona 3 reload on this system on low power mode and get almost 50 FPS. Balanced mode gets over 50FPS. The battery is decent if playing mostly in balanced or low power mode. Tomb raider playing over 50 fps in low power mode. Love this device and fighting to keep it away from my kids. I reach for this more than my Switch 2. Wait for a sale then buy it. If cozy games or not your jam them pay a bit more for the better hardware. In hand feel is comfortable. Only drawback for me is the sound; could be better. but use headphones and you're good.

The Legion Go S is an impressive handheld that delivers far more performance and polish than I expected from a device this size. The 8‑inch display is bright, sharp, and incredibly smooth thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate. Games look fantastic on it, and the high refresh makes everything—from fast‑paced shooters to indie titles—feel responsive and fluid. It’s one of the best screens I’ve seen on a handheld in this category. Performance is excellent for a portable system. The AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip handles modern titles with surprising ease, and the system stays stable even during longer sessions. Load times are quick, gameplay feels consistent, and the device manages heat well. For a handheld running SteamOS, it strikes a great balance between power and efficiency. Storage at 512GB is generous for a portable device, giving plenty of room for a solid library before needing to think about microSD expansion. It’s a practical sweet spot for gamers who rotate between a handful of larger titles and several smaller ones. The controls feel comfortable and responsive. The sticks, triggers, and buttons all have a satisfying feel, and the layout works well for extended play. It’s easy to settle into a game and forget you’re on a handheld. Overall, the Legion Go S is a fantastic option for anyone who wants a powerful, smooth, and visually impressive handheld gaming experience. It’s well‑built, fun to use, and absolutely worth recommending.

This product has exceeded my expectations and is exactly what I was looking for. I initially was going to purchase a Steam Deck, but came across the Legion. After some research, I realized that this device was equipped with excellent hardware and would support any game I wanted to play. I have purchased multiple games so far, and they all run perfectly. I filled up the storage quickly with the amount of games that I got, but I got an external hard drive that added to the overall storage on the device. I recommend this product to anyone who enjoys casual gaming and wants a portable system.

The Legion Go S went from being an exciting new device to being an essential part of my gaming setup. You can take it with you anywhere and even setup your game libraries to work with this device like with remote play or Geforce Now cloud gaming. You have so many options to choose from with the available games that sometimes youll just search the steam store for a minute n not realize how much time has gone by bc youre reminscing about retro games or the graphics in RDR2 or God of War Ragnarok and just have a smile plastered on your face bc you can take them anywhere you go and in the car too. I have an inexpensive hdmi to usb c cable that displays my output from the Go S to a Television or monitor and thats great bc even with the big 8in screen youll probably want that adapter or even a docking station with a keyboard and mouse but the controls are very intuitive after a few hours with the device and can be edited thru Steam device settings. It can do pretty much anything and everything else too. You can even get lost in desktop mode bc theres lots to do there like graphic design and coding software or i even saw one guy who was recording and modeling their guitar sound thru the handheld and i was blown away it really is a powerful device and much fun to take with you whenever you go somewhere to hang out or staying in.

The controls feel comfortable, and the overall build quality is solid and premium. I love being able to take my Steam library anywhere, and the combination of the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD keeps everything running fast and responsive. Hi Suds-

Thank you for choosing Lenovo and sharing your experience with us. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the performance of the Legion Go S. We aim to offer great user experience and would like to recommend a few actions you can take to improve battery life.

Firstly, we recommend running and installing all available drivers updates through Legion Space, these updates are crucial to the device’s health and can adjust power regulation leading to improved battery life. To check for updates within Legion Space begin by launching the application, then click "Disks and Drivers" located at the bottom of the display, then select "Check for Updates".

The Legion Go S can also adjust the active performance profile and fan speed of the device based on your needs. To start press the hexagonal options key located on the right controller, then select the performance tab represented by the rocket ship, from here you can adjust the performance mode. We recommend using Quiet Mode which will increase battery life so you can have longer gaming sessions without needing to charge.

Please reach out to us through the Q & A section of this product page if you have any questions or need any assistance.

    The Best Handheld Gaming Experience

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Best Handheld Gaming Experience? A Review of the Lenovo Legion Go S The handheld gaming PC market has seen a rapid evolution, and the new Legion Go S arrives as a polished, purpose-built contender that learns from its predecessors. By swapping its native Windows OS for the streamlined SteamOS and making key design tweaks, the Legion Go S offers an experience that is nothing short of exceptional. It's not just a gaming handheld; it's a dedicated gaming console that just happens to run PC games. Performance and the Ryzen Z2 Go Under the hood, the Legion Go S is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, paired with a generous 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a fast 512GB SSD. While the Z2 Go might not be the absolute fastest chip on paper, its performance is incredibly efficient. It's more than capable of running modern AAA titles at playable frame rates by utilizing a combination of the 120Hz display and upscaling technologies like FSR. For indie games and older titles, it handles everything with ease, often at higher settings and framerates. The 512GB SSD provides a solid amount of storage out of the box, but with modern games getting bigger, the microSD card slot for expandable storage is a welcome addition. The Game-Changing 8" 120Hz Display The centerpiece of the Legion Go S is its gorgeous 8-inch, 120Hz display. At a 1920x1200 resolution, the screen is sharp and vibrant, with a high refresh rate that makes every game feel smooth and responsive. For many, this will be the best screen on a gaming handheld. Its larger size is perfect for games with small UI text, making it much more comfortable to play than on smaller devices. While it's an IPS panel and not an OLED like some competitors, the brightness and color accuracy are outstanding, and the inclusion of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology ensures a tear-free experience even when frame rates fluctuate. The SteamOS Advantage The decision to ship with SteamOS is a masterstroke and is arguably the single most important feature of the Legion Go S. Unlike the original Legion Go which ran Windows (a desktop OS that is often clunky and inefficient on a handheld), SteamOS is a slimmed-down, Linux-based operating system built from the ground up for handheld gaming. This means: Seamless User Experience: The interface is clean, fast, and completely controller-friendly. There are no surprise pop-ups, background updates, or other Windows annoyances to get in the way of your gaming. Superior Efficiency: Because SteamOS doesn't have the bloat of a desktop OS, it dedicates more power to running your games. This results in not only better performance but also significantly longer battery life. Instant Suspend and Resume: Just like a Nintendo Switch, you can press the power button to instantly put the device to sleep and wake it back up to resume your game exactly where you left off. This "pick up and play" functionality is what makes a handheld truly great. Ergonomics and Overall Feel The Legion Go S drops the detachable controllers of its predecessor for a unified, more ergonomic design. The console is still large, but it's noticeably lighter and more comfortable to hold for long sessions. The buttons, D-pad, and triggers feel incredibly satisfying, and the hall-effect joysticks virtually eliminate stick drift. While some may miss the detachable controllers, this refined design makes the Legion Go S an even more comfortable and solid device. Verdict: A Handheld Masterpiece The Legion Go S is a near-perfect handheld. By adopting SteamOS and refining the hardware, Lenovo has created a device that rivals and, in many ways, surpasses the competition. It offers a premium gaming experience with a beautiful, high-refresh-rate screen and powerful-enough performance, all packaged within a streamlined, console-like software environment. For anyone looking for a top-tier handheld to play their PC games on the go, the Legion Go S is an easy recommendation and is a true testament to the future of portable gaming.

First off, as an owner of the windows version of this device, I could not be happier with the Steam OS version. I returned the windows version within 2 days of getting it due to instability. Crashes, overheating, lag, etc. The Steam OS version is MILES better. Now, with that said, this thing is good but not great. I own a steam deck also so I will be comparing it to anyone who is on the fence about just buying a Steam Deck or getting this instead. Pro's: - Great screen. The refresh rate and colors really are awesome. Cannot speak highly enough about the screen. - The buttons are very clicky and tactile. I am kind of a snob when it comes to buttons and these feel great. Not perfect but great. - D pad has been great and input seems spot on. - The Steam OS has run great and I have not had issues with the software in any way. - Battery has been good for what you get. The windows version would only net you about and hour or just over that in my experience. I can get about 2.5-3 hours max unplugged. Cons: - It is bulky at least for me. It is a chunky beast and the side paddles are a little awkward to hold. You kind of half to hold it to really tell but you can for sure feel the difference between a Steam Deck and this. The Steam Deck is a lot more comfortable to hold. The back buttons are awkward to reach in some cases on the Legion. - Joysticks are mushy. They feel cheap and the balance is off. Compared to a Steam Deck it is night and day. I much prefer the layout of the Steam Deck over this. - Trackpad is small. Like really small. It is not even something to consider using. It is almost the size of a dime or slightly bigger. - The speakers are terrible! Like really bad. Flat and they crackle on some games at low-medium volume. Like bad crackle and cut out from time to time. They are hot garbage. Maybe a software update will fix them. - Fan noise is crazy loud. I expected some noise because of the size of the device and it being a handheld but there are times where the fans are so loud it overpowers the already garbage speakers and makes it feel like a jet engine in your hands. The Steam Deck has fan noise too but it seems less severe. Overall I would say that this thing is on the right track but they need to correct a few things. In the end, if it were me and I was thinking about getting this or a Steam Deck, I would probably stick with the Steam Deck. You are getting almost the same experience and this is not miles ahead in any way. Consider this over a Steam Deck if you want a better overall screen with higher refresh rate but that is really it. In the end, I am returning mine. I just do not see the point of replacing my Steam Deck with such minor upgrades. Is it better than the windows version? Oh yes! Is it better than a Steam Deck? Not in my opinion.
