SteamOS is good, but price is a bit steep
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Legion Go S is an awesome portable gaming device that really surprised me with how smooth and powerful it is. The 8" 120Hz display looks fantastic, and games like Fallout: New Vegas run beautifully with great performance and vibrant colors. The controls feel comfortable, and the overall build quality is solid and premium. I love being able to take my Steam library anywhere, and the combination of the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD keeps everything running fast and responsive. It’s the perfect handheld for gaming on the go or relaxing on the couch.

The Best Handheld Gaming Experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Best Handheld Gaming Experience? A Review of the Lenovo Legion Go S The handheld gaming PC market has seen a rapid evolution, and the new Legion Go S arrives as a polished, purpose-built contender that learns from its predecessors. By swapping its native Windows OS for the streamlined SteamOS and making key design tweaks, the Legion Go S offers an experience that is nothing short of exceptional. It's not just a gaming handheld; it's a dedicated gaming console that just happens to run PC games. Performance and the Ryzen Z2 Go Under the hood, the Legion Go S is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, paired with a generous 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a fast 512GB SSD. While the Z2 Go might not be the absolute fastest chip on paper, its performance is incredibly efficient. It's more than capable of running modern AAA titles at playable frame rates by utilizing a combination of the 120Hz display and upscaling technologies like FSR. For indie games and older titles, it handles everything with ease, often at higher settings and framerates. The 512GB SSD provides a solid amount of storage out of the box, but with modern games getting bigger, the microSD card slot for expandable storage is a welcome addition. The Game-Changing 8" 120Hz Display The centerpiece of the Legion Go S is its gorgeous 8-inch, 120Hz display. At a 1920x1200 resolution, the screen is sharp and vibrant, with a high refresh rate that makes every game feel smooth and responsive. For many, this will be the best screen on a gaming handheld. Its larger size is perfect for games with small UI text, making it much more comfortable to play than on smaller devices. While it's an IPS panel and not an OLED like some competitors, the brightness and color accuracy are outstanding, and the inclusion of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology ensures a tear-free experience even when frame rates fluctuate. The SteamOS Advantage The decision to ship with SteamOS is a masterstroke and is arguably the single most important feature of the Legion Go S. Unlike the original Legion Go which ran Windows (a desktop OS that is often clunky and inefficient on a handheld), SteamOS is a slimmed-down, Linux-based operating system built from the ground up for handheld gaming. This means: Seamless User Experience: The interface is clean, fast, and completely controller-friendly. There are no surprise pop-ups, background updates, or other Windows annoyances to get in the way of your gaming. Superior Efficiency: Because SteamOS doesn't have the bloat of a desktop OS, it dedicates more power to running your games. This results in not only better performance but also significantly longer battery life. Instant Suspend and Resume: Just like a Nintendo Switch, you can press the power button to instantly put the device to sleep and wake it back up to resume your game exactly where you left off. This "pick up and play" functionality is what makes a handheld truly great. Ergonomics and Overall Feel The Legion Go S drops the detachable controllers of its predecessor for a unified, more ergonomic design. The console is still large, but it's noticeably lighter and more comfortable to hold for long sessions. The buttons, D-pad, and triggers feel incredibly satisfying, and the hall-effect joysticks virtually eliminate stick drift. While some may miss the detachable controllers, this refined design makes the Legion Go S an even more comfortable and solid device. Verdict: A Handheld Masterpiece The Legion Go S is a near-perfect handheld. By adopting SteamOS and refining the hardware, Lenovo has created a device that rivals and, in many ways, surpasses the competition. It offers a premium gaming experience with a beautiful, high-refresh-rate screen and powerful-enough performance, all packaged within a streamlined, console-like software environment. For anyone looking for a top-tier handheld to play their PC games on the go, the Legion Go S is an easy recommendation and is a true testament to the future of portable gaming.

Posted .Hi Suds-
Thank you for choosing Lenovo and sharing your experience with us. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the performance of the Legion Go S. We aim to offer great user experience and would like to recommend a few actions you can take to improve battery life.
Firstly, we recommend running and installing all available drivers updates through Legion Space, these updates are crucial to the device’s health and can adjust power regulation leading to improved battery life. To check for updates within Legion Space begin by launching the application, then click "Disks and Drivers" located at the bottom of the display, then select "Check for Updates".
The Legion Go S can also adjust the active performance profile and fan speed of the device based on your needs. To start press the hexagonal options key located on the right controller, then select the performance tab represented by the rocket ship, from here you can adjust the performance mode. We recommend using Quiet Mode which will increase battery life so you can have longer gaming sessions without needing to charge.
Please reach out to us through the Q & A section of this product page if you have any questions or need any assistance.

It's Okay... Some Issues for Sure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, as an owner of the windows version of this device, I could not be happier with the Steam OS version. I returned the windows version within 2 days of getting it due to instability. Crashes, overheating, lag, etc. The Steam OS version is MILES better. Now, with that said, this thing is good but not great. I own a steam deck also so I will be comparing it to anyone who is on the fence about just buying a Steam Deck or getting this instead. Pro's: - Great screen. The refresh rate and colors really are awesome. Cannot speak highly enough about the screen. - The buttons are very clicky and tactile. I am kind of a snob when it comes to buttons and these feel great. Not perfect but great. - D pad has been great and input seems spot on. - The Steam OS has run great and I have not had issues with the software in any way. - Battery has been good for what you get. The windows version would only net you about and hour or just over that in my experience. I can get about 2.5-3 hours max unplugged. Cons: - It is bulky at least for me. It is a chunky beast and the side paddles are a little awkward to hold. You kind of half to hold it to really tell but you can for sure feel the difference between a Steam Deck and this. The Steam Deck is a lot more comfortable to hold. The back buttons are awkward to reach in some cases on the Legion. - Joysticks are mushy. They feel cheap and the balance is off. Compared to a Steam Deck it is night and day. I much prefer the layout of the Steam Deck over this. - Trackpad is small. Like really small. It is not even something to consider using. It is almost the size of a dime or slightly bigger. - The speakers are terrible! Like really bad. Flat and they crackle on some games at low-medium volume. Like bad crackle and cut out from time to time. They are hot garbage. Maybe a software update will fix them. - Fan noise is crazy loud. I expected some noise because of the size of the device and it being a handheld but there are times where the fans are so loud it overpowers the already garbage speakers and makes it feel like a jet engine in your hands. The Steam Deck has fan noise too but it seems less severe. Overall I would say that this thing is on the right track but they need to correct a few things. In the end, if it were me and I was thinking about getting this or a Steam Deck, I would probably stick with the Steam Deck. You are getting almost the same experience and this is not miles ahead in any way. Consider this over a Steam Deck if you want a better overall screen with higher refresh rate but that is really it. In the end, I am returning mine. I just do not see the point of replacing my Steam Deck with such minor upgrades. Is it better than the windows version? Oh yes! Is it better than a Steam Deck? Not in my opinion.

Game Changer
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a PC gamer, I was looking for a handheld that allowed me to havcr comfort and performance to allow me to play games on the go. Comparing this to other handhelds for the price; this product is game changing. A 8” IPS screen at 120 hertz refresh rate makes for gaming that feels and performs like a pc. Anyone seeking a handheld, there is no need to look further.

Great Handheld PC
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Handheld PC - Perfect for a first time PC user with SteamOS. Great controls and screen with pretty good performance overall. Only (slight) downside is battery life but that all depends on what you’re running or playing. All in all, great purchase.

Love it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worth the money! Excellent performance. And I can do must things that you can on the Windows version of this system. Just better all performance all around compared to the windows variant. Can handle triple A titles with ease. The only flaw of this system is the battery life. It's hilariously bad if I'm being honest. You get an hour AT MOST if your lucky. Playing demanding titles I'd say you have about 45 min. So it would behoove you to invest in a portable laptop battery charger. One that has 65 watt charging. Do not cheap out when buying them. And don't by a rinkydink no name brand. Stick to what I've seen from the recommended. Ones like the Anker 737 24000mah power Bank or the Ugreen Nexode 25000mah power Bank. Best time is to catch them on sale during Black Friday or Prime day for around $70. You're gonna need it. Prob the most important accessory for these devices outside of screen protectors and cases.

Great For Older & Indie Games
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s a very nice hand held gaming device! I like the setup better than the Steam Deck oled. For around the same price point (on sale) it performs a little better better than the Steam Deck and I don’t think its lack of an oled hurts this thing at all. Overall works well with older games hitting 60+fps with newer ones around 30-40fps. Overall excellent for older games and playable for some newer ones. Just don’t expect new AAA games to run well.

Love my new device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love my legion go s! I wanted a device that allowed me additional features and games without the hefty price of building a PC. This definitely does it for me. It can be a little loud and have a not so great battery life which is why I have it 4 stars. But you have to remember this is operating completely different then a standard hand held console. I always keep mine docked anyway

Great product for gaming on the go.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great product. The screen is large and the controls work great. The number of Steam games you can play is pretty good, but will not play all. The ability to switch to linux desktop is nice for modding. The only drawback, if you run a graphic intensive game, the battery does not last long. If you run small games the battery is ok.

Better than a Steam deck oled
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excelent handheld gaming device, better than a switch 2, rog alloy x or even the steam deck oled, is not heavy, the screen is big enough for me, can run last gen games at 60 fps without any issues, more modern games can run at 30 fps not a big problem for me, if you are looking for a gaming handheld device you can’t go wrong with this one!

solid grab if its on sale
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.very good value for the price I got it at, it's been really nice for playing on the go. The fans are a bit loud, but I don't tend to actually notice much when I'm playing. the tiny trackpad leaves a lot to be desired, its just too small for me to be able to use effectively. i wouldn't recommend it at full price though, there's just better alternatives.

Amazing Alternative to the Steam Deck
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been an AMAZING purchase! It’s very easy to set up and play, the battery life is good, and the screen is beautiful for an LCD panel. The weight is a lift hefty but when playing on a table or some pillows around my arms I can’t complain. My only gripe is that the RGB lights turned off after the initial update with no way of turning it back on within the system settings. I found a YouTube video on how to turn it back on, but I am a little lazy. So I’m just waiting for this issue to resolve itself with a system update. I’m hoping Lenovo/Steam gets this fixed soon! It’s not crucial to the overall experience but for what I paid, I want everything to work!

Pretty good overall, but some dealbreakers!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just returned the Z2 Go version of this handheld. While SteamOS on it was cool, there so many rough edge in the experience. Sound glitches, battery draining faster than it can be charged while plugged it. Even just sitting there idol, it appeared to be draining pretty fast. There was also a lot of control latency that just ruins fast action games. I also don't like the placement of the start/select near the menu buttons. Kept pressing the wrong ones. These issues were dealbreakers for me. This was a shame as I loved most everything else about it. I had a G1 SteamDeck and those issues weren't present.
