This is Google Home at its best. The convenience and plethora of information provided visually just make the entire smart home experience so much fun! The quality of the device (touch screen, speaker, switches/buttons) is top-notch. And I love watch YouTube and check all related information on the perfectly sized screen (10" is a little too big for my desk). Sound quality is great too. I have also compared it with Google Home Hub -- and I do like to have a camera for video calls which can also be physically blocked -- so Lenovo Smart Display is a much better choice. You will greatly enjoy the device!

*I purchased this product the day it came out in store. ***Cons*** 1. The power adapter is bulky. Every once in a while I have to push it back into the plug. So far it has unplugged itself ever so slightly that it powered off once. Not good. 2. The sound quality is not the greatest. It does put out decent for what it is. ***Can do better*** 1. The packaging has way too many different materials and too much wasted space under the display. Inside you will find three different foams and two different cardboards. Simplify the packaging Lenovo. ***But the Pros!*** **I am an Apple fanatic, and this is my first non-Apple product in many years. I am impressed by this Lenovo product using Google Assistant. 1. The biggest reasons I even considered this display was the privacy shutter for the camera and the mute switch. Well done Lenovo, I appreciate that. I enjoy my privacy and Google is not well known for its privacy. 2. It has a very clean layout without too much info on the screen. 3. It was surprisingly effortless to set up. Unlike many reviews I have read, I found it easy to set up. It's not as easy as an Apple product, but the instructions provided were helpful. 4. Very easy to use, you just talk to it. That's it! 5. Hands-free video. We have used the recipe videos on it a few times. It is a great feature! I wish they would do an update and send you the grocery list of recipes you want to do for the week! I'd upgrade if needed for this feature. *The Lenovo Smart Display is a wonderfully thought out product that is basic and very helpful for the kitchen, garage, bedroom, etc. Anyone can use it; it is effortless to use. My final word on the Lenovo Smart Display: Apple step up your game, I'm not trying to switch, but you need to step it up!

Great idea, not so great execution

I'm something of a Google power user so this was a really appealing device. The Google Home Hub sounded cool but it's small form factor and inability to do Google Duo video calls was a turn off. This device addresses all those problems on paper but the execution isn't quite there yet. Hardware: The hardware is generally great. The design is pleasing (though the speaker grill is a little off putting). The screen is decent enough. I can Chromecast to it and it does a pretty good job though it presently doesn't support Netflix. Youtube, Crunchyroll, and Twitch were all good. The camera is a bit disappointing. I expected average video quality with a 5MP camera but unfortunately it's not really that wide angle. It's maybe 45 degrees at best which is a shame. I'd have loved to see wider so it can let me stay in frame in a video call over a wider space. What I see in video calls are generally much poorer compared to my phone as well. While Twitch can cast to it, the device struggles to buffer and play at 1080p and ends up starting/stopping a lot. This makes me think the wifi receiver is not up to task. The power cable is about a yard in length. SOFTWARE: Most of my issues are on the software side. Right up front is that there isn't a dedicated menu for your frequent menu options like Duo, Cookbook, etc. There are smart tiles but they're hit or miss. Next is Duo, so far I've seen roughly 40% of my calls have the people I call unable to see me. On my side the camera is functioning and rendering to Duo, it's just not being received. Calling again tends to fix but it's still an annoyance. Cookbook is a nice idea but Google has work to do here. It's nice that I can save recipes from the smart display. It's not nice that I can't do it anywhere else (my phone, my computer, etc) and that I can't edit recipes I've saved. Last is the device's firmware, it's very barebones. You can set brightness, volume, and wifi network and that's about it. I'd like to see some more advanced power options. I will generally have to go to the display and swipe it to idle or voice command it to idle or it will otherwise stay in digital picture frame mode. I wish I could configure its behavior here. OVERALL: Currently it's not bad and if Google and Lenovo fix software issues it'd be decent. I'm not exactly willing to bet on that though and will likely return it if the Duo issues persist. Being able to video call and Chromecast with this device are convenient but considering some of the hardware shortcomings and immature nature of the software, I plan to return it and wait for a better iteration.

To be honest, I'd get this thing just as a digital photo frame that connects with Google photos, but it does so much more! Being able to listen to Pandora or watch YouTube/hulu videos while cooking has been a fantastic experience. In addition I tried the recipe mode yesterday (it reads recipe directions to you step by step) and it worked great! No more stopping to wash hands to move the cursor. Other positives include being able to see your nest cameras, visually seeing timers, and changing Hue bulb colors by touch. Not everything is perfect though, setup was buggy to me. It got stuck on a screen and it took me 2 factory resets to get past it. Sound quality is average at Best, maybe below average. Sound quality kind of grates on my ears at higher volumes. For the price though, not terrible. Lastly as others mentioned, it doesn't work with Netflix.

The smart display is awesome! It's the right size, sounds good and works just like I hoped it would. All the newest google Home Hub features came through in an update as I hoped. I compared to Google Home home and I'm happy with my choice. Basically the same features now that it updated, but bigger screen and better sound. No complaints so far.

The Lenovo Smart DIsplay is a device that sports a sleek, modern design that is a perfect fit for Google's androidthings OS that is onboard the unit. The display is crystal clear with great calibration, punchy colors make the default ambient display photos really pop. The speaker is surprisingly powerful, which I was not expecting - It's no Google Home Max, Sonos or HomePod mind you, but it's definitely serviceable for most people's needs. Lastly, Google's homemade OS baked into the device is gorgeous. Smooth, silky animations grace each and every screen based on what you ask the Assistant. Weather reports change color based on the current conditions outside (ex: you hear a rumble of thunder if it is storming), asking for a recipe unfurls a cookbook-esque interface that is fantastic for use in the kitchen and lastly smart home control is accompanied by a visual interface based on what device you're controlling. It's all really well thought out and drop-dead gorgeous in terms of UI/UX. Overall, this is a solid first generation device. It puts the Amazon Echo Show to shame and further proves Google is leading the charge in smart-home integration in terms of innovation. The build quality is fantastic, the design is sleek and can fit into basically anyone's home. Lenovo, you did a great job.

This is a great tool for Smart Home management. Pros: Youtube! This is intuitive and smart, easy to setup and configure. I works as a nice little digital picture frame too, I created a google album and it shuffles through my favorite pictures of my wife and dog. This supports my lights (Lutron, Insteon) , locks (August) , and Arlo. I like that I can group devices, connect this to my Harmony Remote and make changes to this from anywhere. I've started talking to my google assistant daily. Cons: No Sonos support, No MyQ Garage Support. I have 7 zones of Sonos, it would be great if I could manage it from this device. I have 3 harmony hubs for each rooms group of systems, this can only manage 1 of those hubs. Overall I think this device was a good purchase but I feel there is still a long way to go to have this system fully integrate with my houses technology.

Returned an echo show due to lackluster performance and utility. This device is beautifully made and the integration with google services really makes it shine. Also connects effortlessly to my Hue lighting hub. -- Great sound in a great form factor -- Having a slider for the webcam is a big plus -- Great integration with g services -- Miles away from the closest competitor (returned an echo show for this, no regrets whatsoever) If you're in the market for a smart screen, this is the current state of the art.

I have had Alexa for a couple of years and decided to buy the Lenovo Smart Display for my bedroom. The features of this product blow away Alexa. I now have resorted to using Alexa simply as a speaker. I have barely scratched the surface of the features that this product can do! The Google assist can set bedtime music, alarms, watch the top stories in the daily news...simply brilliant. The display adds a great experience with music, videos and news that is unparalleled with other products and the sound is criap. Plus the Google assist is much more responsive than Alexa. I am considering buying another one for the kitchen as well as you can watch videos on recipes. Love it!

Have been using our new gadget for several weeks now, and I couldn't be happier. It's very intuitive, easy to use out of the box after minimal setup. Think of it as a google home, but with a face! Over coffee in the morning she helps me review the day's schedule, weather, and traffic. After work she helps me with cooking-- the recipe instructions are great! The kids have fun with it as well, enjoying all the youtube kids videos, or talking with her, asking questions. I really enjoy the ability to customize, we've currently got it set up as a picture frame of some fun family memories during downtime.

I purchased 3 Google Lenovo Smart Displays at Christmas. One for my husband and I, and the other 2 for my daughters. I wanted to connect via the Voice calling so I could see my granddaughter. We have FaceTime through our apple iPhones but wanted more interaction. This is a great product! I love the ability to stream music, radio channels, YouTube videos, weather forecasts, bring up recipes, check the commute to work and just talk to Google. I love that it has multiple languages so that "Hey Google" actually understands me where Siri does not. I believe the "Hey Google" assistant does not listen in on your conversations where Alexa does. If you have a smart house it connects to multiple devices. I have set up Netflix but have not used it yet. You can also turn off the camera on the screen when not in use. The only negative feedback I have is that it does not come with a user manual. It took me a while to figure out that in order to connect to Voice call friends everyone must have a Google account. You download the Google Home app but I also downloaded the Google app. Everyone must also have a gmail account. I am a Apple user from watch, iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air. I love this Google product. I did not realize how much I would use it. Having the screen is a big benefit. It has a sleek design with a bamboo back. It is small enough not to take up a lot of counter space. My son-n-law loves his. The Best Buy employees were very knowledgeable to explain the difference in the Google Smart Display, Alexa and Portal to make a buying decision. I highly recommend this product. Reasonably priced!

If you already have a google home then you already know how useful the google ecosystem can be. Now imagine a Google home with a Screen, a Video Camera, and chromecast features embedded! Not only do you have your standard Google Home assistant with pretty loud speakers, but the screen can also play youtube, cbs on demand, and other video services. You can even chromecast video from those services from your phone or other devices to smart display. The video chat using Duos is also pretty awesome. Simple but powerful enough to beat out the amazon show.

It is more than a smart google speakers, The display really adds more fun. You can also cast the content from your smart phone to this display through built in chromecast function which open up a lot of apps applications. My wife loves it too. I was thinking of 10 inch but I am glad to get the 8 inches model. It fits will on one corner of my dining table. 720 resolution is good enough for 8 in display. The screen is sharp with nice color reproductions. At the sale price of $99, I would definitely recommend it to friends. A piece of food wrap on the screen is my temporary solution before finding the fit screen protector which still hard to find on the current market.

Need To Implement Some Basic Features

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We own this device and the Echo Show and prefer the promise of the Google Smart Display. While the GSD is better looking, has the superior Google Assistant, is useful for recipes, allows for on-screen interaction to control devices, acts as a Chromecast and can play YouTube videos, it comes up short in these respects: - The Echo Show is louder than the Lenovo Smart Display. The ugly JBL unit promises to change that and I'm hopeful that Sony and Google will offer better. - The GSD does not display lyrics of music. - The GSD cannot join a group. - The GSD cannot receive calls like the Echo system with the Connect device. - In the Ambient Photos mode it is not possible to view a slideshow of photo from this date in history. - GSD's will not display an all day event from your calendar. - Local news is much more limited than the Echo's offerings. - The GSD has no Echo-type "drop in" feature. Google may have legitimate reasons for not implementing these abilities or may simply be late to the game. In our family, we have come to view the Google Smart Display as more of an entertainment device and the Echo Show as a more practical device.

Thank you for this valuable feedback, we are happy to address a few of your points.
      1. The Lenovo Smart Display does not yet support speaker grouping or multi-room audio but this capability will be added to all Lenovo Smart Displays in an upcoming update before the end of this year.
      2. Lenovo Smart Display can receive both voice and video calls via the Google Duo application, simply say "Hey Google, video call home" to your Google Assistant on your phone, to call your Google-account linked Lenovo Smart Display.
      3. The Lenovo Smart Display does support a native voice-first experience of Google Photo. For Ambient Mode, you can decide to display albums from your linked Google Account using the Google Home app and its settings menu.
      4. The Lenovo Smart Display cannot allow for drop-in features because per design we have considered user-feedback on the need for a privacy camera. You can call from one Lenovo Smart Display to another Smart Display, but the TrueBlock Privacy Shutter would render a "drop in" type of feature cumbersome at best.
We hope you can give another look at the Lenovo Smart Display considering these points.
5.-The Lenovo Smart Display comes with a 2" 10W full-range speaker and 2 passive tweeters, which product deep lows, crystal clear middles and true-fidelity highs. Many independent reviews consider the Lenovo Smart Display sound to be superior to Echo Show. lenovo

was really excited to get my hands on the 10" display. good microphone pick up, sound is not as great as the google home i have with medium bass. thats what expected with a small speaker. Display is awesome, very responsive...the most important thing that made me kinda disappointed with this device is the continious conversation. I played with all the settings to try to find it and turn it on, until i gave up and went online and found out that its not supported....THATS HUGE! i was glad to get away from saying "Hey Google" when it made that major update a few months ago but now that i have this display, im back to where im at before of saying the key word and i hate it....that is important to me. Right now, its 50/50 for me,.. I will still play with it today and see if i can decide to keep it or return it back. If that feature is there, definitely 100% that ill keep it...and will be a five star, but for now its hangin in the air.

I almost didn't buy this because of the reviews that state you cannot add this device to a Google Group. This is no longer true. I plugged it in and it updated and when I checked my home app, it was there and I added it to my group of Google devices. No issues, no problems. As quick and easy as setting up a Google-made device.
