Won’t work out of box

Thought as a freshman, it’s a disposable laptop for her first year that would fit nicely in her backpack, the week before school, we took it out of the box. It would not connect wirelessly. I had an Ethernet cable, which it connected without an issue. Took it back to the store we bought it at and they said it was bad software and a factory reset would fix it. Brought it home, did a factory reset, and after 2 hours, still the same, will not connect wirelessly. Best Buy said I’d have to purchase a plan for almost the cost of the laptop for them to work on it. Did I mention it is a new laptop...just taken out of the box? I guess we should have opened it when we bought it to make sure it worked. Lesson learned, one week from college and she has no laptop. Ugh!
