Lenovo AMD A8 Series Laptop - Wi-fi issues

The spec seemed excellent for the price, but now I know why - wi-fi connectivity is a problem. I found I could get a wi-fi connection only when I sat right next to my modem. If I walked a few yards to the next room my internet connection would drop. I have two Toshiba computers that work perfectly, so it's not my wi-fi set up. I know a bit about computers and struggled all weekend trying to tweek things to make it work but returned the item for a refund on Monday. No issues with Best Buy - great customer service.
