Will be living off grid and needed a new laptop to tether to my cell for data. Old laptop is plenty fast (quad core A10, 8 gigs), but the wifi is old and won't connect to my cell, battery barely holds a 90 min charge these days. Needed something mega affordable with the proper ports (HDMI, multiple USBs, the small micro SD card slot) for basic computing and good-to-great battery life since this will be charged via solar lol. It's not all that horrible. Dual core 1.6 GHz is what it is. I immediately uninstalled the bloatware crap, turned off transparent windows effects, switched to dark mode for better battery life, got rid of Bing and Norton. It's fine. Plenty snappy. Now, it's no powerhouse. I don't need a power hungry performance machine. All I need is YouTube, the ability to manage all of my files via a 2TB USB-powered hard drive, write a few papers, check my email, Skype my kid...basic stuff. And this is pretty much what I was looking for. Screen is....decent. There's a little bit of dark LCD deformation near the webcam that's noticeable when I have a dark wallpaper up. Kinda annoying. Not visible with bright colors. Keyboard is just average. Touchpad is fine. It's a plastic, budget laptop! Let's judge it for what it is. And it's fairly bland styling-wise. Onn's are even blander though lol. I pa*d one hdred and n*ne teen during the pre Black Friday sale. I call that a STEAL. Immediately threw in a 128GB SD card. The memory and I'm sure the CPU are not upgradeable. For the price, if it lasts me 2-3 years as a home media center/basic PC plugged into my big screen...and the battery remains good, I'll be happy. Someone also mentioned wiping the eMMC and running Linux to make it more responsive. That might be a backup plan if it starts to bog down. However, again...I uninstalled the bloatware and will be installing/running minimum programs. So hopefully, it'll be fine. Just wanted to present a less than doom's day assessment of what I think so far if you lower your expectations and are willing to run it with enhancements turned off as well as uninstall the unnecessary crap.

The setup guidance is good but takes many steps. You need to create a outlook account in order to complete the setup process. When I tried to navigate the laptop freezes, the processor went to 60% and the memory occupied 60% with only chrome and excel opened. I could install apache office and it ran correctly. I think 64 Gb is not enough even for a starter level I needed to return it for another laptop.

Brought it for Christmas before COVID 19 home schooling for elementary school use. It was stuck on S mode. Could not use for elementary home school program.Good price and cheap, but not worth buying. The computer is slow. I was able to turn off S mode, which was even worst after ward. Note , once you turn off S mode , you can not get the S mode back. I had to go buy another laptop.

I got this laptop two months ago, First major problem is how slow it is barely can handle two chrome tabs open at once, and cannot handle 720p video stably. Start-Up time is about a minute. You probably will need a micro SD card for how little storage there is. The wifi chip is limited to around 75mbps. If you will only be using this laptop for some streaming and mainly reading it should be fine.

Hello, we are sorry to hear you are having this experience with your Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" laptop. This model ships with Windows 10 S-Mode Operating System. Windows 10 S-Mode provides added security by only allowing APPs available (and therefore certified by Microsoft) at the Microsoft Store. If you do not need the added security or you need to install APPs not available at the Microsoft Store, you can switch to standard Windows 10 Home 64-bit Operating System, at no additional cost. Here is a link to instructions for switching from Windows 10 S-Mode to Windows 10 Home:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4456067/windows-10-switch-out-of-s-mode . If after switching out of S-Mode your issue persists please Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programming errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC” Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on-screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. Lenovo

Good Basic Laptop For Very Basic Needs

A basic laptop that will let you surf the internet and very basic tasks. Not suitable for games, but I have watched a few YouTube videos and they seem to run fairly well. Was hoping to put Linux on this, but the hardware is too new to work with the distribution I was using. It did not recognize the network adapter. Camera is a very basic 640x480 resolution. Screen resolution is 1366x768. Too much bloatware that I was unable to remove except by reinstalling Windows 10. I find that those manufacturer add-ons usually don't benefit me and just chew-up resources That surprised me because I purchased a low-end Lenovo a few years ago and it did not have the crapware installed. Battery life seems much less than the "up to 8 hours", I am getting about 5 hours use on a charge. The laptop also gets warm, much more so than other low-end laptops I have used. The 64 GB eMMC flash memory makes the system at least manageable for updates and upgrades to Win 10. I recommend storing data on a microSD card to keep free space on the boot drive. A big pro here is previous low-end laptops I have used turn-off the SD card when the system goes to a sleep mode or if the cover is closed which could be turned-on again until the system was rebooted. I do not have that problem with this unit. I generally would not recommend this to anyone who doesn't understand the limitations or who does not understand the limitations of speed and hard drive space. It does look well made, is thin and light.

    Unbearably Slow

I am used to low-cost computers' performance. I absolutely love Lenovo's low cost computer line - I have had the Lenovo 100s, 110s, and 120s - and this Lenovo Ideapad 1 takes the cake as being so unbearably slow out of the box that I cannot believe that this is even allowed to be sold. Chrome and Microsoft Edge barely run with 1 tab and clicking on menus lag. I even reinstalled Windows 10 to try to see if maybe it was the built in bloat, but no it still was extremely slow with a fresh install. Even after that, Chrome lags and it literally doesn't catch up to me typing. It is simply cathartic. This computer feels like trying to use a 2006 Core 2 Duo laptop in 2019. I'm pretty some literal Core 2 Duos from 2007 and 2008 would be faster than this computer. Save your time and money and purchased a used machine or a better machine open box for better value. I wouldn't want to let a child or anyone I would know have to suffer through the absolutely slow performance of this laptop. This is definitely being returned ASAP. This computer isn't even a good deal if it is sold for $30. I would only recommend this laptop is all you are doing is literally Microsoft Word and Email. Not watching videos, browsing the web, or listening to music online, or doing anything else more complex a simple, brand new laptop would do in 2019. Only plus - the build quality was great as all the other budget Lenovo's I've had. Stay away!
