I had done my research and found that this laptop was in S Mode which I can understand why it would be helpful for a child. But.... if you want to use a browser other than Microsoft Edge or Zoom or have multiple browsers open or play music or just download anything not in the Microsoft store, this is not the laptop for you. Yes, you can get it out of S Mode but then you can’t change it back. Anyways, maybe for the right person, who really wants to limit the use and potential of the software, this is a good buy. But for anyone above the average or expert user, this is not.

Good for my sons homework

The video function is terrible though, as well as the sound. But, we simply got it for him as a cheap homework computer BEFORE the distance learning. It was perfect for an 8 year old then.

Nothing on there but a browser, but it freezes Google Meets constantly. It takes almost a full minute to boot up (in 2020!), probably 20 seconds to load a webpage. I tested the Wifi - signal is strong and it's super high-speed. Without the ability to consistently run a video meeting (literally the only thing it is being asked to do) at 125Mbps , it is a $200 paperweight.

Posted .The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14 Laptop, model number 81VS0001US, will boot from off to the Windows 10 desktop in less than 20-seconds. This model ships with Windows 10 S-Mode, even if you have switched out of S-Mode, be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programming errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686.

It does what I need it to do

I turned off the S-Mode and installed a couple of communication software packages that I need to use this computer for. I have no complaints. I think that if you are realistic about what you plan to use this computer for, it will get the job done.
