Horribly slow

This was so slow it took the better part of a day to download the free antivirus software. Unfortunately I bought it before I read all the negative reviews about how slow it was. The replies say “it’s a beginner’s laptop” are hardly an accurate reply. If this is a beginner laptop I cannot imagine anyone wanting to get into computing. I guess I got what I paid for and I won’t make that mistake again. Thankfully BestBuy let me return it.

Posted .The Lenovo IdeaPad 1-14 Laptop, model number 81VS0001US, ships with a 30-day trial of McAfee Virus Protection software installed. If you installed another virus protection software without first uninstalling McAfee software, you will cause compatibility issues on your computer, like you describe. Uninstall both virus protection software APPs, then re-install your choice of virus protection software. Slow, and loaded with the typical Lenovo Bloatware

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.tl;dr - Lenovo loaded so much process-heavy apps and bloatware onto the machine that it is almost worthless. After wiping the eMMC flash memory and loading a copy of Ubuntu Linux onto the machine, it's an above-par daily laptop. Once I finally got it setup and out of Windows S-Mode, I attempted to hunt down all of the bloatware and freeware that was loaded onto the computer from the factory. Upon completion of what I thought was the majority of the apps and processes that was hogging the 4GB worth of RAM, I realized that this laptop needs a full system restore to bring it to it's full potential. After a full system restore (using the Windows Settings option), I realized that the "bare-bones" Windows OS that was loaded onto the computer was not at all bare-bones. I again attempted to delete all of the system resource-hogging apps and processes. Two days later, and after being violated by very well hidden advertisements from Lenovo and McAfee, I got fed up and wiped the drive completely clean. I then installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu Linux 20.04 LTS and have been extremely happy ever since. To be honest, this machine does have the necessary hardware to function as a daily driver, but the bloatware loaded onto the base copy of Windows by Lenovo makes this machine worthless. As a comparison, I have an 11 year old Acer Netbook which has 2GB of RAM and an Intel Atom processor running Windows that greatly out performs this machine in multiple benchmark tests. I do not recommend this machine to anyone, even for simple browsing. Granted, I did buy this at a very, very steep discount, but I could have spent my money on a full Raspberry Pi setup (board, screen, peripherals, etc) that could out perform this machine 10-fold. I will say that it does handle "drops" well - the 3rd week of owning this machine, I ended up dropping it but it took it like a champ. Probably because of the thick, cheap plastic housing. Overall Rating "Out of the Box": 3/10 Overall Rating after loading a new Operating System: 8/10
