Good for day to day work!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start with, this is a lightweight, sleek, and elegant-looking IdeaPad. The overall look of the IdeaPad is great and is nothing short of any high-end laptop. The screen size is 14" with a resolution of 1366 X 768 with an energy-efficient LED backlight. The Windows 11 Home in S Mode provides the most secure experience with faster boot times, better responsiveness, and much-needed protection against phishing and malware. The configuration of Celeron N4020 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC Storage is not adequate to be the primary device but comes in handy for some light multitasking. It comes with two USB-A ports, 1 USB-C, and an SD card slot. To my surprise, it boots up instantly just flip the screen and I am ready to go. The feel of the keyboard is nice and the keys are really comfortable to use. The touch is of decent size and is quite responsive. The battery life is decent and lasts up to 11 hours with light usage throughout the day. This in general doesn't meet my day-to-day requirements but is just the right thing for my daughter and she is enjoying this a lot. With the price that it is available, I am pretty sure this will be hands down the best option in this category If I compare this with a higher configuration laptop then it will be not fair but it has some shortcomings like the processor being a little slow and the limited RAM and storage making it further slower but no complaints with the price tag of this. Overall, this Lenovo Ideapad 1 14.0" laptop is a great option for users who do not want to put in a lot of money but still can do the regular stuff. This meets my middle school-going daughter's requirements to the fullest and can be easily carried in the school. This can be a good second or third option for an electronic device and can also be hooked to a TV if needed.

You get what you pay for
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Alright, so I got my hands on the Lenovo Ideapad 1 with the 14.0" display, Celeron N4020, 4GB RAM, and 128GB eMMC storage. I figured it'd be a solid work buddy for basic web stuff and email when I travel and don't need a full set-up. Build quality is actually pretty impressive, and the 14.0" display is decent enough for basic work tasks and the occasional Netflix binge. Plus, it's lightweight and easy to haul around, so that's a win. Let's be frank. The Celeron N4020 is passable for basic web browsing and email, but don't expect it to pull off any superhero stunts. It struggles with heavy-duty tasks or when you're trying to juggle multiple apps at once. Storage-wise, the 128GB eMMC is okay, but you'll likely need a SD card to store more stuff. That is nice that it accepts the SD card in the right side of the PC. Ports are fine. Two USB-As, a USB-C and an HDMI which is honestly, is more than this PC could handle if you had a bunch of things to plug into it. Now, here's the deal – for basics like web browsing, checking emails, and using web apps like Google Docs, it's decent. I'd even say those might run better than throwing Office at it, especially if you're not dealing with monster-sized spreadsheets. And hey, this laptop does serve a purpose. I'm thinking of keeping it as a guest computer for when my folks swing by and just want to chill on the web. It's not a powerhouse, but it does the job if your job is just to chill online.

Great value for a Lenovo laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ideapad from Lenovo arrived intact, it comes with the charger and user guide, and out of the box it looks very nice, it is slim, and it is light in weight at only 3 lbs. and has a nice finish of the Cloud Grey color. This is not my first Lenovo; I also have the Lenovo Yoga and that one is great, and the Ideapad is for different tasks as well as for my kids to use, it is made for everyday use for different reasons like listening to videos, podcasts, music or anything else can be heard with its speakers that offer Dolby Audio or with wired headphones and finally via Bluetooth. I really like that it comes with Windows 11 S mode, it is more secure especially because my kids are going to be using this laptop. I like the great value of the Ideapad because it includes plenty of essentials and more, like the inputs that it offers, SD Card Reader, USB A 2.0 USB A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI, USB C 3.2 Gen 1 and Headphone/mic combo input. These connections work well and also it does connect with WiFi 6. I really like that it does have a built in webcam with a slide privacy shutter so making video calls is easier. Something else to really like is the battery life, it lasts a long time, and I do not know if it has fans but it is very quiet. The things that might need improvement are the following, setup is easy but it takes a long time to do so, I found it easier to just leave it updating while I was doing something else. Also at startup, it takes time to boot up and sometimes it runs smoothly and sometimes it takes its time. Browsing sometimes takes longer and from time to time it gives me a message, “this page isn’t responding” and it just takes longer than usual. On the other hand it is of great value so the Ideapad is for web browsing, video calling, watch videos, listen to music, kids to do their homework on it as well as taking it to and back from school. My suggestion is to be patient, once setup it will run slow but not all the time and I cannot compare to my other Lenovo because they are very different from one another and for different uses.

Could be better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a replacement device for a Chromebook that failed me it was old and fell apart. I decided to go with the IdeaPad by Lenovo. I overall trust Lenovo because they make great products. But I will be completely upfront before I complete my review this Ideapad is a product that could have been a whole lot better. That being said let us get to the meat and potatoes of this review. :::General Thoughts::: This product looks and feels premium and that is a plus but this is one of the few good things that can be said about the IdeaPad. If you have ever owned a Lenovo laptop then you know what I mean they all share a similar DNA the keyboard and panels and design are very similar across the board. Setting this up was one of the most frustrating experiences I ever had. This runs a modified version of Windows and while there are benefits to that I must admit that the cons outweigh the pros. This runs Windows S mode and I feel as if the S moniker means Windows “Slow” mode, no matter what I did on this device it just takes ages to do and I can not tolerate it anymore. I can not imagine myself using this daily, even for lightweight use like web browsing and e-mail this device just takes too long to do anything. I do not want to fault Lenovo for this because it is running Windows and you are very limited with what apps you can run as well it will not allow me to use Microsoft Family app to monitor my kid’s computer use. Do not get me wrong this device does what it is intended to but at what cost? It nearly cost me my sanity I will not reach for this because if you are in a hurry to do something forget about it you will be waiting for long periods of time for basic tasks. :::Pros & Cons::: Pros: - Sturdy - Premium feel - Strong battery life - Good Display - Decent Webcam - Good keyboard & trackpad Cons: - SLOW - SLOW - Modified Windows S - Proprietary charger (Not USB C) :::Closing Thoughts::: This is a well-designed product but the Achilles heel is Windows S Mode. The hardware is much like a netbook low power, and low spec device. I really wish this were a better product, it can NOT be compared to a Chromebook because they are fast unlike this. If you are a patient individual then perhaps then this product may be right up your alley. It just does not meet my needs, nor does it meet my expectations for a Lenovo product. Maybe a software update can fix these problems but as it is in its current state this is a a headache to deal with. :::TL;DR::: I was hoping for a lot more and this product did not deliver on any front. Take a wait & see approach with this. Maybe a future software update would fix the issues that plague it in its current state.

Great for Kubuntu Linux, not for Windows.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PC is furiously slow with Windows 11--even in S mode. BUT, this is a great PC to use with Linux. I installed Kubuntu 22.04.3 LTS long term support (a well supported flavor of Ubuntu Linux KDE), and all the drivers installed perfectly. It works extremely well on Kubuntu. For example, the function keys all work properly. Also, the tap to click, two finger swipe to scroll can all be turned on in settings. I tried other versions of Linux as well, but it does not recognize the WiFi adapter. For those looking for a long battery life, low cost computer, and are comfortable with installing Linux, I highly recommend this computer. If only planning on using Windows, do not buy this as it will be a bad experience. I own this same model with the 64GB storage, same ram and cpu. I contacted Lenovo, and was recommended to reformat with their Windows download, and other troubleshooting such as hardware tests. All the tests passed, but it would not solve the lack of processing power needed for Windows to run smooth. Thanks for reading.

Good starter laptop for students.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Lenovo - Ideapad 1 14.0" HD Laptop - Celeron N4020 with 4GB Memory - 128GB eMMC in Cloud Grey has a lot of features that any student would like and need for simple tasks, like taking notes, typing papers, and light research. When I started the laptop, it was setting up pretty quickly, at first. It then became extremely slow. As I proceeded through setup process and applied all the necessary updates. I restarted the laptop, and discovered that I couldn’t do anything at all on it. When I clicked on the Internet browser icon, it took 4.5 minutes to completely load. When I typed in a web address, it never loaded. I kept getting an error message that it had timed out. I will note that the internet on all other devices was working fine. I decided to switch out of Windows S Mode, clean up the apps that automatically start each time you turn on your laptop, and make sure there were no unnecessary apps loading. I then restarted the laptop, went back and did the Windows Update again, installing more updates, then restarted again. This time the laptop was working fine. It’s still a little slow, but I was able to get into apps, browse the internet, and play a couple of games. So, if you decide to get this, remember to check your start up apps that load each time you start up. It’s not a bad laptop by no means, but it’s not something you would want to edit photos, and do a lot of things that utilizes the processor and RAM a lot.

Good hardware, bad OS choice...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In few words: this is an amazing laptop but it has a very bad OS choice (win11)… I believe that win11 is a very heavy Operating System that should be not installed on this laptop. Out of the box, I tried to make it work. I’ve installed all the updates and gave win11 long time to arrange its files and so on. Many times it works. Even after longtime, the CPU usage is almost always at 100%. RAM around 90% with nothing running (by me). Then, when left to idle, the CPU usage will reach 100% once you move the cursor or just do anything. It will remain there for a while. I uninstalled all the unwanted programs that win11 came with. Still, not good enough. I tried to do my daily tasks with it. Most of them would require different browsers (other than Edge). They won’t play along with Win11. Overall, the laptop is usable but not if you know how a computer should perform or if you have a more capable one… Then, I gave up and I decided to drop Win11. I went for a Linux with xfce interface. And WOW.. Simply wow. The instructions are very clear. The steps are very easy. I got Mint xfce installed in no time. Out of the box, all drivers worked without writing any commands. I did a quick clean-up and updates and I started using the laptop as my daily computer. It is a very nice laptop. Light weight, strong build and very nice keyboard. Webcam works fine. Objects close to the camera are fine, background is a bit blurry. It works fine in any lighting. I was able to run all my companies app through web browsers. I successfully edited documents and charts. I even created a presentation with the limited resources… I got a solid 10 hours battery (all day). I connected an external monitor (24”) and wow. The resolution is amazing (through HDMI). Microphone and speakers are OK. Not very loud speakers but not noisy. I wish it had a backlight keyboard. I kept monitoring the resources, the CPU is running at ease. Cooler than before. The RAM usage stays in good levels (Swap works fine). You can still use it with the original Win11. The price is very fair to what you get. You can also switch and unlock the full potential. I rate this laptop 5 stars. Win11 (on this laptop) 0 stars.

Built for the Patient
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is notably aimed at being a simple, practical, sturdy, and budget-friendly computer. While it exceeds in some of these aspects, it falls shorts in others. To begin, it is definitely budget-friendly and sturdy. Honestly, I love the feel and construction of it. It is very well-made and feels like it can withstand the bumps and thumps of travel well. The keyboard has large and springy buttons that are satisfying to press, and the mouse track is reactive, with built-in springy right/left buttons as well. It terms of simplicity; it is the simplest you can get. At 4GB it is as slow as dial-up. Really reminds me of the 90’s. More often than not, the usage is at around 70% simply from background applications. Leaving very little room for apps of choice to run. A test in patience, this laptop is not for the multi-tasker. The graphic component is also simple, Netflix ran just fine, and the quality was okay, nothing like watching on a tv though. Do note that it does not have an ethernet port so it must be used with Wi-Fi. It comes with Windows Home 11S. This is a frustration on its own, specifically because it has limitations that I find hard to circumvent. This issue can be resolved by removing and replacing the operating system with a preferrable one though. Overall, this is a budget-friendly option for someone who really needs a laptop and is determinedly patient.
