Near Perfect "Companion" Device
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Duet 5 is a nearly perfect companion device - and by that I mean a device you can just pick up and take along with you, whether walking around the house or taking a trip out and about to do what you need to get done. Now, some of that is specific to my use case so read on to see if it's right for you. First off, the pros (and there are many): - EXTREMELY LONG battery life (I can see 12+ hours of active use, much much longer on standby) - Wonderful screen - the OLED really makes the contrast pop - Thin and light but NOT flimsy - minimal bezels around the screen - Great keyboard feel and a nice trackpad - screenside camera is top quality for video conferencing - Zippy in day-to-day use, ChromeOS doesn't need much but the 8GB of RAM really helps And the cons (not much): - No expandable storage - Would love a backlit keyboard option - Not a desktop replacement powerhouse (but it's not supposed to be?) Some key background here is how I use the Duet 5 - I was looking for what I refer to above as a companion device. This will be my every day carry laptop - carrying around the house, using it on the sofa while watching TV, in bed to close up things before bed, etc. along with taking it for (eventual) travel or to work. The key thing there for me is that I use a variety of remote and cloud services throughout the day - so most of my heavy usage is using a remote desktop or remote server and having that system do the processing. So I don't need a "beefy" local machine - I need one with a great screen, great battery life, a great keyboard and form factor (thin/ight) and just enough local resources to get by in those few times I don't have internet access. And this is a wonderful device for that purpose. When using remote resources, I can get over 12 hours (probably over 15 if I pushed it) of battery of actual USE. The screen, keyboard, etc are all great. I do wish the keyboard was backlit for working in a dark room - that and a microSD card for storing media for consumption while on a plane would be great additions for a v2. If you're buying this primarily to use as your main laptop it can serve that role as long as you don't expect to do processor-intensive activities like video editing or AAA gaming. You can easily browse the web, email, do office work (if your office suite works - Microsoft Office would be web-based here), run Linux and Android apps. Streaming media is great on this screen and you can play light Android games and emulators. I can run Visual Studio Code and do some development/debugging just fine. If you need one computer that can do it all AND you need to do very intensive things, then probably this isn't right for you. This also isn't right for those looking just for a tablet - ChromeOS can support a tablet view, but it's not as mature as iOS even with the addition of Android apps. Also, tablets of this size (and I've used both this and the 12.9 iPad Pro) are just unwieldy in use. If you want a 2-in-1 that you can sometimes take the keyboard off of to watch movies or read on, this is perfect. If you want a tablet that you can sometimes add a keyboard to for longer emails, look elsewhere - an iPad variant (Pro 11, Air, etc.) or Samsung line for Android tablets. If your use case is right, this is a "near" perfect companion (Lenovo, please come out with an after market/sold separately backlit keyboard!!)

Great portable product
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great battery life. Great portability. Great product. If you know your way around with Linux, you unlock a new range of possibilities with this too. Hook it up with a docking station and DisplayLink, and you get yourself a great triple-monitor setup.

Excellent upgrade to the original IdeaPad Duet!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had an IdeaPad Duet which I loved, however I was hoping for something a little more responsive. I really waffled between the Duet 5 and the newer Duet 3, and after much research chose the 5 and boy am I glad I did! If you want to use this as a tablet, I'd recommend maybe checking it out in store first as it might be too big for some (I personally don't mind it), but if you intend to use it more like a light, very thin, portable laptop, this thing is excellent. It's performant, the screen is amazing, and it's just the right size IMO. Very happy with it!

Well worth the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this chromebook just before Christmas and have been super happy with it. There are some Chromebook operating issues that I am getting used to (from a Windows laptop) but this is me learning the Chrome operating system, not a Duet 5 complaint. Battery life is outstanding, typically 11 hours + The screen is super impressive. I use the Duet probably 70% of the time as a tablet, 30% with the keyboard attached. Even use it at times as my preferred Kindle reader, rather than the dedicated Kindle tablet. Only wish I have is that the keyboard was backlit. I came to appreciate this on my Windows laptop, and wish the Duet had this.

Zippy Chromebook that doubles as a tablet
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a major step up from the original 10" Duet I owned for a couple of years. The extra screen real estate is nice, especially with the OLED screen. Having 8GB of RAM allows to be very responsive and allows me to have many tabs open at one time. Detaching the keyboard turns it into a tablet. The 13.3" screen is a bit large to use as a tablet for long lengths of time, but in a crunch to read or watch a movie, it works just fine. If I was going to knock it for anything, it's that the keyboard does not completely fold to the back like the original Duet did. So you're left with the keyboard sitting to the side when you do use the screen as a tablet.

1st (and best) Chromebook I've used
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I've been loving this Chromebook. It's very fast, lightweight, and convenient for everyday use. I bought it to replace my bulkier laptop for things like budgeting, emails, checking tasks, streaming occasionally, etc. The tablet comes off easily and feels nice (although remember this one is quite a bit bigger than a typical tablet). Don't expect every Android app to look beautiful on this since they are designed mostly for phones and smaller tablets. Instead, you can use Chrome's "Create Shortcut" feature to save websites and choose that they open in their own window. This makes them feel like their own app and is the way I recommend using it. Overall a great product for the price!

Great Tech! but with some limitations
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really enjoyed or appreciated the build quality of this device. I am an avid linux user and thought ChromeOS would be a great bridge between device and applications to do some tech work. Although I did do some research prior to purchasing what I didn't take into account was the ARM processor which made the install of certain applications impossible at the moment and I didn't want to wait for developers to catch up. Now if this was running Andriod it would have been a solid piece of tech but probably limited in other areas. It is definitely cutting edge and in the future I'm sure will eventually be a mainstream OS to share marketplace with Microsoft and Apple. But for right now it has its limitations from the perspective of performing tech work with such an awesome mobile device. Battery life was exceptionally good. Keep great temperatures and was able to handle very well most apps that were installable via play store. I returned for the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 i5. Yes, I had to dish out an additional 600 hundred dollars but, in this case, I'm paying for compatibility of apps and hardware. If all you require is light work, surfing and multimedia I think this would be a perfect device.

Best Compact Chromebook
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've tried several Chromebooks and this is the best so far. Bought one a year ago, and now am getting another one for a brother, in July 2024. It works quite smoothly, the screen is great, and the keyboard is just fine. I really have no complaints and would recommend it to anybody who would like a compact Chromebook laptop & tablet.

Nice Chromebook
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice looking display, keyboard and trackpad are nice, but I wish it came with the stylus that the cover was made to house. The stylus is available to purchase from Lenovo, but it is hard to find, there’s no pictures, and the chat support couldn’t confirm whether they had it or not. I found the model number after a bit of googling. It’s a bit unwieldy to use as a tablet and the keyboard is also the screen cover so I use it like a laptop. Maybe on the couch it could be used as a tablet? Battery lasts a long time. I use the included charger to power a hub on my desk and it charges other devices such as a surface pro 7.
