An inherent behavior with high-powered systems like the Legion Pro 5i gaming laptops are that their battery life can be shorter compared to lower powered systems, and with this, they need larger, higher wattage power adapter to supply sufficient charge to the battery while under load. We have noted these points, as we will continue to try to improve our systems where necessary. Depending on what games you're trying to play, the dedicated GPU isn't required, you could use the integrated GPU to reduce power draw and use a USB-C power adapter to charge the system, including on planes.

Regarding your note on battery life – as you may know there are lots of variables that contribute to battery and in gaming laptops that can increase even more due to their high-powered processors and graphics cards. If you want to squeeze out more battery life and are completing non-intensive graphics tasks, you can utilize the MUX switch built into this model to turn off the dedicated GPU to greatly decrease power draw. This can be done in the Lenovo Vantage app > top right box > GPU working mode, then choosing your preferred method. Users can also take advantage of the keyboard shortcut, Fn + Q to toggle thermal modes and easily switch between prioritizing battery life or power, or even the best of both words, along with custom settings configurable in Lenovo Vantage. You could also press the Fn + R key combo to toggle to a lower refresh rate for even greater power conservation.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5 Got what I expected

Overall solid device, great multi-core performance, awesome LED screen, and solid build. The only downside, battery performance is poor. I literally have mine plugged in when I am using the device, as well as, the fan noise can get loud particularly when playing games.

Firstly, we recommend ensuring proper airflow to the bottom of your Legion Pro 5i. This allows the thermal design of the Legion Pro 5i to circulate properly and reduce the temperature of your laptop when under load.
Secondly, the Legion Pro 5i allows you to change the computer’s thermal mode. This will allow your device to cycle between higher performance, quiet, or automatically adjust based on your needs. To start, launch the Lenovo Space app, Under the CPU and GPU Performance gauges you will find the option to toggle performance profiles. We suggest using Quiet mode which will lower the temperature of your Legion 5i when under load. You can also toggle thermal modes simply with the Fn+Q hotkey.

The fan can get loud when it's running hard, but nothing some headphones can't fix. I highly recommend this laptop for gamers on a moderate budget.
