You can control the nightlight brightness with the voice command "Okay Google nightlight 1-100%". 1 being the most dim and 100 being max brightness. You can also turn the nightlight on or off ay at time by saying "Okay Google nightlight on/off" or by pressing and holding the volume - button on top of the device for 3 seconds.

If your assistant is having trouble hearing your voice commands please ensure you have removed the plastic film that is on the screen to protect it during shipping. This thing layer of protective plastic can block the Smart Clock's dual array microphones.

Regarding the Smart Clock Volume control, there are two separate volume settings, one for media volume the other for your alarm volume. This way you can have streaming music set to one volume level and your alarm alert sound set at a different volume. to adjust the volume of your Smart Clock Essential, open the Google Home APP you used for the initial setup of your Smart Clock Essential. The first screen you see will be the general volume setting. This controls the volume level of any content you stream and the volume level of the responses from the Google Assistant. To go to the volume control for your alarms, tap the Settings Gear icon at the top right of the main screen. Then select Audio. Now select Alarms and Timers. Use the slider control to adjust the volume of the alarm alert sound.
