I paired it with a smart plug for her for Christmas she loves it. I will say the only down side is that that the "okay Google" detection could be better. If you say the wake words with perfect enunciation it won't wake the assistant. Other than that it does an amazing job.

We are sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue with the mic/assistant. It is possible setting up voice match and raising the "okay google" sensitivity will help with this. to setup voice match please open the Google Home app.
At the top right, tap your account.
Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
Tap Assistant settings Voice Match Add devices.
Make sure any devices you want to link your voice to are checked.
Tap Next I agree.
Follow the in-app steps.
To adjust the sensitivity of the mic please open the Google Home app .
At the bottom, tap Home .
Select your speaker or Smart Display.
At the top right, tap Device settings. ...
Choose how sensitive you want Google Assistant to be when it responds to you.

Functional google assistant alarm clock.

Limited features in the google home app, and you cannot control the night light via the app. In fact, I cannot figure out how to turn the night light on other than the sensor detecting night. Night mode is awesome, though I wish the screen was a little bigger. With that said, it performs as advertised and works generally well.

As an alarm clock-music player, it works very and with smart controls, no need to hassle with little button and knobs. And we use it as our entrance into the "smart home" space. The upper model has a video screen but I don't know why you would need that on an arm clock
