    Great value in a Thinkpad

    - As configured, this Thinkpad laptop costs about $150 LESS than the configured price on the manufacturer's website (as of the date of this review) - Kudos to both BestBuy and Lenovo for offering a realThinkPad branded laptop at retail - Will appeal to consumers that value function and performance over appearance and glitz Since it's not clear in the features: - It DOES have a backlit keyboard, - It DOES have a microSD card reader, - The 8GB of memory is configured using One of Two SODIMM slots (which makes an upgrade to 16GB an easy matter of adding a second SODIMM) - The 256GB SSD is a Samsung MZVLW256HEHP

    Solid Retro Look

I just bought one of these laptops today, and my initial reaction was regret. However, after installing all the updates through Lenovo and Microsoft I really like it! I know it's not a gaming machine, but it originally ran my games very slow (fps wise), which made me regret it, then I installed the updates and it ran much better. I am getting about 10 fps more in the few games I play after the updates. Enough fps that my games are playable and enjoyable. The computer feels very durable. I actually had a Thinkpad years ago when the IBM logo was still on the machines, and while playing with the demo at Bestbuy I joked about liking the retro look, but honestly I really liked the overall feel of the machine. I also like that it's upgrade able, and from what I've read online upgrading is easy. The only issue I see is the screen isn't the most vibrant, but that's a minor draw back for me. Everything else about this machine makes it my traveling, movie playing, light gaming, and business laptop. I think next computer may be the same updated thinkpad in the future, and I'm hoping it will have thunderbolt then too. Good computer!

    One of the best!

This laptop is by far one of the best I have used. I originally purchased the Lenovo C630 Yoga laptop but returned it due to the Snapdragon processor and Windows on ARM not being able to handle my work related applications. Without hesitation I gravitated to the Lenovo Thinkpad L380 Yoga. After installing all of the latest updates, updating to the latest BIOS version, and upgrading to the latest version of Windows 10 (1903) I can say this laptop is working flawlessly. It has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it and all of my work applications. This is truly a work horse, but that isn't a surprise considering it's a Thinkpad after all. In my opinion this is the best laptop Lenovo has made, its durable and has that iconic Thinkpad feel. The keyboard is excellent, the port selection is great, and the screen looks awesome! The battery life is great as well. It is a little on the heavier side at 3.44 pounds, and sure it attracts fingerprints, but what Thinkpad's don't? I think that's a small trade off in comparison to what you are getting specs and feature wise. The only reason I gave this laptop a 4/5 star rating is because the one I originally purchased wouldn't charge or power on out of the box, clearly a defective unit possibly damaged during shipping or defective from the factory. None the less, the fine folk at Best Buy swapped the unit out for me and I was on my way with no issue. I would recommend this laptop to anyone who is looking for a great durable machine that's built to last for years to come.

    Solid System

I picked this up when my 7 year old Macbook Pro finally died from logic board failure. I need a reliable computer but I'm not willing or able to pay the Mac premium price anymore, and I needed something that I could pick up quickly since I was left without a computer. Build quality is solid, keyboard is very nice to type on, and battery is adequate. I will be upgrading the memory and I love that that is an option! One note: the battery CAN last a long time, but the computer must be on battery saver mode. If it is set on a performance mode with full screen brightness the time it can operate away from the plug will be far less than advertised.

Great design... quality control is questionable

Overall, I'm happy with the Lenovo Thinkpad laptop. However, dealing with Lenovo in the past, you can expect light bleed and dead pixels on their screens among other defects. (hence the reduction from five to four stars) I have one dead pixel towards the middle-left of the screen that's hardly noticeable with normal use and two spots of light bleed towards the bottom edges. The screen isn't retina, but it's decent. I owned Apple everything (4 Homepods, 27" iMac, Macbook, Apple TV, Apple Watch, 3 iPads, smart home switches, two iPhone XS Max, etc)... However, it was time to purchase another laptop and I didn't want to spend $2k+ on a 15" laptop with a questionable keyboard with scratch-able anti-reflective coating (Apple Macbook Pro). I decided to sell off the Apple and invest in Google and Windows (yuck) based laptop. So far, no regrets and I was surprised how well google syncs with Windows 10 now. There's a lot of features that have carried over from Apple to Windows and Android regarding syncing devices e.g. texting through phone using Chrome browser... good stuff. My favorite features on the Lenovo Thinkpad L380 Yoga are the amazing keyboard (huge plus that won me over from my Macbook), expandable storage - SD card slot (using a 256GB Micro SD), rechargeable through USB-C ports + has two USB A ports, fingerprint read for login, runs fairly quiet most of the time (fan off), but fan does come on once in a while and when it does, it's subtly noticeable in a quite room, corning gorilla glass, that won't have anti-reflective coating pealing off when the glass rubs the keyboard during transport (uuhmmmmm, Apple), sturdy chassis, metal hinges, back-lit keyboard, SSD. What a don't like is the trackpoint, dead pixel (questionable quality control; my first laptop had a bright white spot on the screen), 360 degree functionality (would prefer a regular laptop, not the hybrid Thinkpad, but this will do), does not have water proof keyboard, no magnetic latch (latch in general) to keep lid secured to chassis. Overall, the Thinkpad is a solid laptop that feels sturdy and like quality. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I've been really impressed with the ThinkPad's durability and keyboard at work. So, I decided to buy myself a this 2 in 1 ThinkPad. Pros: There was absolutely no bloatware installed on it. It's fast and the keyboard is awesome. Also, the upgrade-ability was a factor for me. Cons: The only con I can think of right now is fingerprints showing up on the black finish.

Mine has Intel's i5 chip, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. So much faster and lighter than my last laptop. Virtually instant on. I have had Thinkpad laptops for many years. They have always been my favorites because of the Trackpoint mouse. I have never liked touchpads. The touch screen is responsive. I bought mine at BestBuy. (I originally ordered a ThinkPad X1 Carbon from Lenovo - what a mistake. It was supposed to be shipped same day - after 3 weeks of emails promising to ship the next day, I gave up and canceled my order. I am glad I did because I am enjoying this L380 Yoga.) I use mine mostly for word processing, spreadsheets, emails and web browsing - nothing very intensive.

Bought this laptop 2 weeks back. So far I am extremely happy with the overall performance of this laptop. There are no issues at all. The key board is sturdy, the battery life is sufficient for my type of work. The screen is bright enough, however colors could have been more vibrant.

After doing a lot of research online, talking to several salesmen at Best Buy and at other stores this was supposed to be one of the more reliable and tougher PC's available when i purchased it when starting my business in March 2017. It was to be used mainly for running car tuning software (HP Tuners, Holley, Megasquirt EFI, etc), doing online bookwork and regular web surfing. It was a lot of money to spend that i had not anticipated but when my old Dell that i had forever finally died it was go cheap and hope it lasted or buy one i could rely on for years again. Out of the box the only issue i had was it wouldn't get a good connection to the net in a lot of places my old Dell would. That was easily fixed with an external wifi adapter i had to pack with me everywhere otherwise the performance was good, i was happy with it for the rest of a year. At 13 months the speakers quit working so to hear anything i had to plug in HDMI or head phones, after maybe 20 plugins to the HDMI port it went south and would show a pink picture on the tv screen with no sound, i packed earphones now with WIFI adapter. I've owned it 17 months now, last night it worked and this morning it was dead. Totally. Won't turn on at all. First i bought a $65 charger, then searched google and found a video on how a tech shop was fixing the issue so i disassembled it, disconnected the battery, backup battery and Ram. When i pulled the back cover off i found 2 loose screws on the main board and one had fallen out of a wiring bracket that brought my attention to the broken USB port on one side that could possibly be my fault but i'd say there's a 5-8% chance. I've never dropped it, hit it, tossed it, loaned it to anyone, don't have kids, dogs or a cat and it's kept in a nice computer bag with me pretty much 24/7. Just put it back together and it's still dead, charger is working and the battery pack shows 12.2 volts. Guess i'll be buying another PC.

I owned this machine for all of 12 hours before giving up and returning it to BestBuy. I really liked the design and price of the L380 and thought it was going to be perfect for my needs. After getting it home the fans were getting pretty loud and the machine itself was getting quite hot. I wrote this off as first time out of the box running updates over stress. After closing the device and going to lunch I come back and flip open the laptop and the screen would not turn on. The machine itself was on but the screen just wouldn't come on. After googling what the issue might be I was able to get the screen on by shutting it down and holding control F8. After running updates and waiting hours I restart the machine and while the screen problem not turning seemed to have been fixed now my screen was about 75% of the size it was supposed to be. YUP after updates my screen SHRANK, for the life of me I couldn't find a way to fix this. After waiting another hour and half on diagnostics and updates and BIOS I said screw it and took it back to Best Buy. I fully admit to not being a very tech savvy person but I don't think I really need to be for a product to just work directly out of box. Maybe if you're more tech savvy and can put up with updates and just all around stupid stuff this might be the product for you, because again I think the concept of this machine is literally perfect, the size, weight, included pen, touch screen, keyboard are all great, BUT ONLY IF IT WORKS FOR THE END USER!!!!!! After returning this device I bought a Surface Pro 6 and it is working perfectly out of box and what I'm writing this review on.

We are sorry to hear that you had issues with the initial setup of your Lenovo ThinkPad L380 Yoga. From the description of the issue you provide, be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. For 2018, Lenovo retained its place for a second year as the best laptop vendor:

Unfortunately, after a year of having this laptop, I've had nothing but trouble. I bought this laptop brand new, and it started randomly shutting down and needing to restart after about a year of having it. The problem got progressively worse, and after two and a half years since I bought it, it shut down completely. I spent hundreds of dollars because the motherboard had to be replaced. I would never purchase a Lenovo product again.
