From a spec standpoint - great value for the money. Discreet graphics that are pretty close to a middle of the road desktop graphics card. No, you can't run at full 1080p, but dropped down to 720p(ish) and medium graphic detail settings and frame rates are above the minimum of level needed to play the game smoothly. As a working laptop, sans games. Great processor (quad cores look great on bench marks but in reality, i5 is faster than most need. it The ability to turn into a tablet or tent mode etc is cool... hardly use it. Kind of thing that looks neat on paper but in reality, doesn't really play all that well. Also, you have to wonder how long those hinges will last over time.,.,flipping the screen all the way over to tablet mode, etc. Keyboard is excellent and I'm pretty picky in that dept. However, the track pad just plain sucks. it's not that touch sensitive and the left/right mouse clicks have a longer travel than the keys on the keyboard. It also sounds a little rickety. Net summary - good laptop, great if you want to play games but unless you need the ability to go to tent mode or very fat tablet mode. As at this price point there are other choices.

Like the form, but some issues...

I really like the feel of this laptop, and it feels like a better mix of features and tradeoffs compared to the Yoga 13 (3). That said, there are some minor issues that can be really annoying. The keyboard is nice, indeed, but the palm rest creaks when you rest your palms on it. There is a very common issue with the battery contacts, and many, many devices lose power (e.g. - lose your work!) when the laptop is moved and not hooked up to the power supply. I had to have mine serviced. I took out the super slow hard drive and put in an SSD. Overall the computer is very snappy and has a great feel. It's not super light, but it's a good overall balance. I really like it, and it's not super expensive. Just be aware of the issues, and prepare to deal with them. And- for sure, take out the slow HDD.

I have been using this laptop for 3-4 days now, and I must say it has exceeded my expectations in all departments. I had been considering the Dell XPS 13 Infinity, HP Spectre 360 and a few other models too, but finally decided to go for this Pros: 1. Very sturdy construction 2. Excellent HD display (on par to a Mac Book Pro) 3. Splendid Keyboard 4. Sensitive Touch Screen Neutral but more than acceptable factors 1. The OS might appear a little slow, but actually no where near lagging like some of the reviews are pointing out 2. Hybrid Hard Disk (only 16GB out of the 1TB is SSD if I am not wrong) Cons 1. Not sure, and very hard to point out. For some - it could be the weight 2. Track Pad does not have the physical buttons but still a very good one (sensitive) Over-all : I am a happy customer ! :-)

They found the sweet spot in the Thinkpad Yoga 14!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am a business user and a doctoral student. I use my computers for everything from basic productivity to media production, even some light gaming. Over the years I have searched for Windows based laptops that possess a unique balance of power, durability, affordability and portability. The new Thinkpad Yoga 14 gets close to most of these criteria. It has discrete graphics, 4th Gen intel i5 power, a relatively thin/light form factor, with an HD touchscreen for $1100. My only complaint is that it does not have a full SSD and I would like an Intel i7 option. In my humble opinion the Thinkpad Yoga 14 is closer to the sweet spot than most other computer makers out there right now. Especially since Sony's personal computer division took their ball and went home in Feb of this year. Sony's Z series hit all of the criteria except price point (They priced themselves out of most consumers budgets by charging 2K-3K for this premium line of laptops). I could not rate this computer as a 5 star because it still has room for improvement with the SSD and Processor. Some might argue that the Microsoft Surface 3 might be a strong competitor to the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14. I would disagree. While the Surface 3 is thin and light and has SSD and i7 options it falls short in 3 categories. First, the 12 inch HD screen is not enough screen real estate for the Hi Def graphics - for me it still makes everything just a little too small, it also creates scalability issues when connecting to a 2nd monitor. Second, the price of the Surface 3 before the keyboard is too much especially if you want an i5 with 256 SSD or higher! The third area where Surface 3 falls short is the balance factor - even though it is better than both previous generations, it still falls short when you try to put it on your lap especially when compared to the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 (on any other laptop for that matter). Not to mention the short fall in graphics power when comparing a discrete graphics card vs. onboard graphics. In terms of performance the Thinkpad Yoga 14 loaded with Windows 8.1 starts fast, mainly due to the hybrid hard drive that enhances the normal start time of the 1 TB 5200rpm hard drive with an added 16 GB SSD drive. As much as I would prefer a full SSD hard drive it is nice to have the room to store photos, videos, documents and whatever on the 1 TB hard drive. The screen pops with vivid color and is a joy to watch content on. I have not seen the color reproduction problems that plagued previous generations of the Lenovo Yoga product line, it will be interesting to see if others have this problem.

Very nice addition to the Yoga line.

I received mine a couple days ago, I returned a Yoga Pro 2 as the scaling of the high resolution screen was something I didn't like, and that the yellow color was still off after the patch, better but still off, especially when you turned down the brightness. The screen on this is a full 1080p and is more fitting for this size of a screen and so far I haven't had the scaling problems I had with the Ideapad. The colors are bright, crisp, and yellow looks like yellow, no green hue to it at all. The only thing I noticed is upon boot there's some light bleeding on the top edge of the LCD, it's not that bad and disappears once the main background has loaded. The Thinkpad is definitely heavier and thicker than the Ideapad Yogas but the build quality is very sturdy and there's room for a 2.5" 7mm hard drive. The 5400 RPM drive that comes with it isn't the fastest but the 16gb M.2 SSD catching drive helps. I'm planning on replacing the main drive with a large SSD. I haven't had a chance to use it much yet but it looks like this one is a keeper, easier to update and expand, and windows scaling handles the 1080p screen much better. The keyboard as IMHO is much better than the Ideapads, the keys are larger and it feels like a normal laptop keyboard. I really don't have an opinion about the track point mouse as I use a wireless mouse 99% of the time, but the little I tried it seemed to work fine. The last thing is heat, the Yoga 2 Pro got very hot after an hour or so of watching a movie, the fans were still very quiet but it was too warm for my liking. The Thinkpad running the exact same thing was much cooler. Looking at the underside of the laptop you can see there are a lot more vents for cooling than what the Ideapad has, "basically 0" but that also means you have to be careful not to block those vents or I'm sure the unit will get just as hot as the Ideapad. Next I'll be trying out some games so see how it handles the heat using the Geforce GT840M, that's another very nice addition not very often seen on this size of laptop.

Lighter load for real work on the road

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I lightened my load on the road last year by leaving my old laptop at home and taking my iPad Air - which could do most all things but detailed Word/Powerpoint content generation and C# development (for which I could remote in). In 2015 I will need to more "real" work on the road and find the Yoga 14 to be a fine device. I've loaded the system with Visual Studio and other development tools, Office Home Premium and technical drawing tools/utilities. VPN gets me to my corporate applications when I need them. Windows 8 takes some getting used to - but I am fully functional and pleased having the touch screen. The tent mode is great for working while flying in today's cramped seats. So far the performance of the i5 and the hard disk with SSD cache has been fine. The Lenovo build quality and keyboard are what I have come to expect and respect. The larger screen and keyboard and more robust feel of the Yoga 14 and faster processer made it a better choice for me that the Yoga 3 Pro (at the cost of a bit more weight). I still like having my iPad Air available (e.g. situations where I just need to present and take notes) and purchased a Case Logic AUA 314 which snugly transports in pockets for the Yoga 14, iPad Air, power supply/accessories and cell phone - leaving me fully functional with a small footprint and lighter than my old laptop.

    Excellent Machine - Unique Offering

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have had this machine for about a week now and I love it. There is a fair amount of light bleed especially noticeable during boot but once the screen is displaying images and backgrounds I very rarely notice, if at all. Usually only when on a near totally black screen as in a video game load screen or something. The nVidia 840M is not a power house gaming card but it is respectable. Plays most current gen games pretty well with proper detail/performance settings. Meets my needs nicely. A laptop with a higher end video card is going to be bigger, heavier, hotter with more battery drain and higher price tag so the trade off is a great option. The Hybrid SSD/HD drive is pretty quick on boot but not quite as good as a full SSD native drive, but much better than a traditional laptop HD. Having a terabyte is really nice, don't have to worry about not loading up a small SSD with too many programs, install what you need there's lots of room!

Great Value Laptop, Solid Portable Gaming Machine

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Note: Immidiately after purchasing this laptop, I swapped out the 1TB HDD for a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD, and put the 1TB SSD in an enclosure. I then uninstalled the SSD caching software and installed Linux on the caching drive. So I'm considering this as a $1350 laptop with a 500GB and 16GB internal SSD and a 1TB external drive included. I got this computer because I was looking for a computer that had: - Good keyboard/trackpad/screen - Over 5 hours of battery life in real life usage - Acceptable gaming performance (enough to max out LoL) - Under 5lbs Most "Portable Gaming Laptops" like the Ghost, Blade, and Aurorus have most of these features except the battery life, which makes them not portable. Because I also use my laptops for school and programming, that is unacceptable. Gaming performance to me is important, but secondary. The computers I found that fit this criteria were: -HP Zbook 14 -Macbook Pro 15 -Asus Zenbook QHD -Thinkpad T440p -Thinkpad Yoga 14 -Dell XPS 15 I chose this computer because, in addition to being by far the cheapeast (less than half the price of most of the others), it also had the best looking design and build quality, as well as including features most of those lack, such as a touch screen. Overall, happy with my decision. Pros: - Great Keyboard and Trackpad. Keys have good travel distance, feedback and visibility. Touchpad presses uniformly even from the corners, which makes it click even better than a macbook. It also tracks very accurately. - Solid Performance, even gaming capabilities. An i7-4600U would probably be ideal, but this is still a very capable machine. The video card is a nice addition, nothing crazy but any game you can run on medium on integrated graphics will run maxed out on this. Great for MMOs, MOBAs, Source Engine and indie games. Unless you are planning on doing competative FPS games or running VMs, this performance should be enough for anyone. - Decent battery life. Though I have yet to achieve the advertised 8 hours, getting over 5 with moderate to heavy use is possible so that's still pretty good. Cons: - Wifi range is sub-par. Keep in mind that the speeds are great and AC support is as good as it gets, but make sure you have a strong router because the range suffers greatly through walls. - Screen is imperfect. I'd still say the screen is good, but it has some noticable flaws. You have to press about twice as hard on the touchscreen as on my Vivobook, which is a bit hard when dragging things. Due to the great trackpad, I don't even bother with it anymore. The brightness isn't enough to combat glare, I think matte would have been a good choice. Text is a bit fuzzy, so I would not recommend this machine for graphic design. Notes: - If you plan to upgrade to an SSD, the screws around the perimeter don't screw out all the way. The ones in the middle do, but the outer ones just get loose then the bottom will snap off. - On linux, the pipe key (|, \) shows up as (>, <). I was able to fix this by changing my keyboard layout to English (international AltGr). - On linux, the brightness control keys work, but it will only do max or min brightness. You can use xbacklight (from the terminal) to fix this by installing it and running, for example "xbacklight -dec 50" from max brightness to set it to half.

Solid and sturdy 360 degree Ultrabook from Lenovo. Definitely cannot compare the weight with Yoga Pro series. Doesn't come with Optical disk drive but has all other required ports. Prefer i7 but i5 is comparatively faster. Glossy screen. Keyboard layout and keys are solid. TouchPad is OK. Backlit is good. Watch it has 8.1 not 8.1 Pro. I'm Lenovo fan, so didn't get a chance to check Asus, Dell, etc. Overall good and happy to purchase from BestBuy!

    Just right for me

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I own a original Lenovo Yoga 13. I upgraded it to 8gb of memory and added a 256 msata hard drive. I also own a Lenovo Yoga 2 and a Lenovo Yoga 11 (RT) and a Dell Inspiron 11 2in1. For me this was a step up to the Lenovo Yoga 13. The fan is 80% quieter on normal times, and 50% when maxed. Pros : 1. Quiet Fan 2. This has 3 USB ports which is important for me as I use a trackball mouse and need the dongle in all the time. 3. Also the same width and depth as original yoga just a bit thicker 4. Heavier by just under a pound, but WAY better build quality (internals are night and day). 5. Keyboard is amazing, haven't felt a better keyboard on ANY notebook. Con: 1. 1TB hard drive is a 5400 RPM spinning drive with a 16gb cache. I don't care what they say, you can tell. There's always some stall when starting something. Mind you I've been on SSD for 3 years, so i have way less patience than your average user. I turned this CON into a PRO, Removed the 16mb cached drive, installed a 256 M2 drive and cloned the 1TB. It's screams now. This is the way it should have been done. 2. Ctrl and Fn button, seems buttons are in the wrong place, Ctrl button should is not the left most button, now the fn button is. There is a strange tweek in the bios to FLIP them for people like me. I may need to do that. I love to play games, already loaded Wolfenstien new order, fry cry 3, and a few others. They play well under med / low settings, great portable gaming machine. If it can play those games, it could do just about everything else well. BTW Lenovo just pull this unit from their site, new model should be out soon.

Great laptop for work or entertainment

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this computer for a great price as an open box laptop and I've enjoyed every minute of using it. I run Creo, MATHCAD, and AutoCAD on it effortlessly and am generally able to play older games (2011-2013) on max settings. The screen quality is great and the ppi count is impressive. Very nice for when I'm gaming or doing 3D modeling. The 360° rotation is nice for class (small desks) and the fact that the keys retract is brilliant. I spoke with Lenovo reps and double-checked for myself: everything except the GPU and the processor is upgradeable. This means I can swap in more RAM and an SSD if I wanted to, but it runs great as is. From back-lit keys to the button mouse in the center, this computer has made me completely forget about the MB Pro I switched from. To anyone considering the MBP with Retina display for anything other than Facebook and bedazzling practice, check this out instead: you won't regret it.

I was a little scared to buy this computer I did a lot of research. I read all of the negative reviews, but it didn't out weigh the good. I never had a Lenovo product, I had a Asus K55l and I wanted a 2-n-1. I was nervous because of the screen size. Anyway I only had it for 5 days and since it came in the mail I can't put it down! I love everything about this thing even with the light bled. It don't bother me too much I don't really have anything bad to say. The size is so perfect for me and it's not too heavy at all! This is a wonderful product.....it's not loud. I recommend this product although I don't use it for as much things as the other's reviewer's do. I play The Sims and Facebook games and it does a great job! 1 more thing it does get a little hot.....

    Junk

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This review is from: Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 14 - Intel Core i5-4210U Processor( 1.70GHz 1600MHz 3MB) (Personal Computers) The concept behind this laptop is absolutely fantastic! However, the craftsmanship and quality control is absolute bottom of the barrel JUNK! Let me elaborate upon my experience. When I saw this laptop at bestbuy, I was hooked. It was everything I thought I wanted. A "tough" and rugged business like laptop that doubled as a yoga type tablet! I couldn't wait to get it home after spending my very hard earned money on this new tool. Within the first three minutes of using my new laptop I could not believe the terrible squeaking noises it made every time I would rest my palm on the unit to type. If you moved it or picked it up, even gently, the noises were worse! So long story short, I immediately returned the device the same day in exchange for a new one. Thankfully, the new unit did not squeak. Now, after spending just short of a week with the device, I have noticed that if you pick up the laptop from the right from hand corner while running on battery, the laptop simply shuts off!! Literally, if you pick up this laptop on battery, you run the risk of it turning off and having you loose all of your valuable data. Not to mention that the construction is really cheap. Lonovo CLAIMS that their laptops pass some type of "military" testing. I have yet to hear of what these tests are or what they entail, but I am skeptical at very best. This laptop is going RIGHT BACK to the store where it came from. Lonovo, you have officially lost my buisness and it is truly a shame that you would push a product to market that has so many quality control issues. I was expecting better but I guess I should just significantly lowered my standards. Buyer be warned, if you buy this product, you run the risk of facing serious quality issues. If I were you, I would simply not buy it. Ohh, and Lonovo, if you remove my post, I will simply put it right back up. Not just here but elsewhere. The reason is because the public needs to know. Especially when you are asking over one thousand of our hard earned dollars for a product that is complete rubbish. Thanks, John August

I've owned this laptop for over 2 weeks now and over all I really love the computer. Can't say that I love the windows 8.1 though, praying that it will grow on me. Battery life is good if you aren't watching videos or a movie otherwise it drains pretty quick. BE AWARE: Don't count on getting the as described "FREE BONUS" items/programs that is described on the over view page. See below. Bestbuy emailed me the product key for a year of some unknown name internet security program. When I looked in the digital library it said that the software program couldn't be downloaded to the device #my computer#! I got on the chat with best buy and asked about it mistake and was told to call them so I did. After almost 30 minutes on the phone with a girl then transferred to the "Downloads dept" someone finally picked up and I spoke to some person with a non-American accent whose phone kept cutting out and was told I would get another key code emailed to me in 24 hours. NOT so anyway good luck if you are counting on using that DVD program. I give the computer 4 to 5 stars but Best buy would only get 1 star.
