Fast Light Bargain. But Lenovo Fixes are Needed

Out of the box it shuts down or sleeps when it starts getting warm. The Intel Heat programs and a bunch of settings need to be Updated or it will over heat and quit working. I returned my first one to Best Buy for this issue. The new one had the same problems so I called Lenovo Support. He took over the computer and made a load of driver upgrades mostly Intel updates. So now it is running cooler and not shutting down on it's own. I really love the tiny form factor, great screen, wicked wireless and super battery life!!! Just hoping the bugs are fixed...

    Excellent Laptop

I've been searching for an 11.6 in, fanless laptop with a long battery life for under $500. Also, it had to be Linux-friendly. I bought the Pentium version yesterday, and immediately installed Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon. Everything works out of the box! (I did not try it as a tablet, because I won't use it that way) With TLP installed and three tabs open in Firefox, PowerTop is showing 5-5.5 watts! Uptime is showing nearly 4 hours on battery, and I still have 58% left. I haven't even applied the other power-saving tweaks yet! The only thing missing may be a backlit keyboard, But ,I could see the keys okay while testing in the dark. I can see why some typists are upset about the PgUp/ Shift key placement. What the heck was Lenovo thinking with this layout?? Fortunately for me, I'm left-handed and use the left shift key.. Light, small, good keyboard, great screen, and Linux-ready. This little guy has exceeded my expectations!

Extremely well designed and manufactured laptop

Hello. I am thoroughly impressed with the laptop after 2 weeks of use. I delayed writing this review until I was able to test everything which the external monitor port that needed a special micro-hdmi to vga cable. I was fortunate enough to purchase the laptop at $400 during Best Buy's 50th anniversary sale. It seems to fluctuate between 450-500. I use the laptop for extensive Excel stock market modeling with 20-30k formula refreshes as well as some light gaming League of Legends and Path of Exile. The laptop runs the Excel models surprisingly fast and sufficiently for my needs. League of Legends run on moderate settings at 80-100 fps but it is not too demanding. The laptop runs Path of Exile at the lowest setting decently enough for me to play without major stuttering except for when there is a lot of activity on the screen. I disconnect the cords and then it becomes a tablet that I can read, surf the net, or watch movies in bed. The weight is very light but solely as a tablet can be a bit heavy compared to true tablets. Comparatively, I had a 7 year old laptop prior to this that was top of the line when I purchased it at like $2800 with a dedicated graphics card. It is amazing how technology has progressed with this $400 laptop without a graphics card exceeded my 7 year old $2800 laptop in ever aspect. I highly recommend this for its performance, build quality, looks when compared to other competitors. It is the best in class.

A very nice speedy laptop, small and light

I had concerns about the Pentium processor vs. something like an m5, however my worries were completely put to rest when I tried out my new laptop. It's quite snappy, and the boot time is Very fast, thanks to very fast BIOS post. I've read that SSD read speeds are very fast too (about 500MB/s; I think it uses a Samsung SSD), and it does appear to load everything pretty quickly. No issues with general daily operation, streaming video. Keyboard is very nice size, good key travel distance, easy to type on as opposed to some cramped ultrabook keyboards. Trackpad is pretty good. Screen looks good. Max volume is quite loud! Does not get hot to touch, only warm at the bottom. Overall a very nice little laptop. I like the LED indicator in the power button--lets you know when the laptop has gone to sleep when closing the lid (takes a few seconds) or has shut down. Charging indicator light is on the left side and changes color depending on battery level (blinking orange to blinking white, to solid white when full). Nice battery saver option of charging to max of about 60% if keeping the laptop plugged in most of the time. Didn't come with much of any third party bloatware, which is a huge plus. Just a few apps that were easy to uninstall. Camera is so so--that's about the only negative I can find so far. Refresh rate a bit low and low resolution in low light for Skype calls, but decent.

I've been waiting for a laptop in this price range and with these specs for quite some time. The wait was worth it! I really like this little laptop. You pay a little more than some of the rock-bottom windows laptops. But you get a lot more too! The screen is much nicer, it's a touch screen, and it folds into a tablet. It has 4gb of ram instead of 2gb. I'm not totally sure that the processor is much better, but it feels fast enough. Also the build quality and keyboard are very nice, it doesn't feel cheap or budgety at all.

    Overall Great But Some Tips

I really like this laptop. Super portable, powerful, and long battery life. It does have a few annoying issues though that are easy to fix. First, the UP ARROW KEY is located where a touch typer expects the RIGHT SHIFT KEY. Thus when one is typing, the cursor jumps up a line whenever you hit a capital letter. Frustrating. This is easily fixed by remapping the keyboard to switch these two keys. If you google Lenovo forums, you'll quickly find what I'm talking about. I remapped soon after purchase and am typing away - annoyance free. The next thing I dislike is that the screen defaults to auto adjust brightness. Thus if you are sitting in a room with a tv, the screen brightness would constantly flicker. It's too sensitive. You can turn auto adjust off in settings. I did and that annoyance went away. Note there are screen brightness buttons right on the function key row. So you can adjust brightness manually whenever needed. Finally, the touchpad is super sensitive. It has pinch zoom and touch click - like a little tablet. This results in webpages randomly zooming in-and-out and selecting hyperlinks that you are trying to scroll past. I turned off both of these features in mouse settings. After all the above tweeks to settings, I love everything about the laptop. I got the 11 inch and bring it with me everywhere.

Was able to grab this 2in1 on special for $399, great deal for an 11" portable 128gig SSD. Perfect for home use and to take anywhere. Not a super gamer computer, but for a normal person that is going to do normal office and Internet use, more then enough. Screen quality is good for its size, easy to use, not full of manufacturer software that you have to get rid off, pretty much plug and play. I'm happy with the purchase.

    Above & Beyond Expectations

I’m a photojournalist and totally dependent on good tech to keep my clients. At the moment I have three laptops sitting on top of each other, they all work but each of them have glitches. They all run i5’s or better with a minimum of 8gb of ram as I need to run several large Adobe and Office programs to edit my work and meet deadlines. When doing editorial work for daily papers my assignment time frame is often under two hours so I MUST HAVE systems I can depend on consistently in the field. When shopping for this system I simply walked down and opened Word on each machine I was interested in and if it took more than two seconds I moved on… If it took less than two seconds I did it again but opened Word, Excel, and Power Point at the same time… Well this little YOGA beat up on some 5th gen i7’s opening everything in under a second with no issues. After I talked with a really great and very knowledgeable Best Buy rep about my needs and showed him the test I devised he watched and was impressed with this machine too. When he priced it, it was almost $250 less than the system I was about to buy… I decided to take it home and really give it a run and load it up with Adobe CS2, Lightroom, Office, and push it.. I up loaded 50GB of jpeg’s and NEF’s and started batch editing in Photoshop and this little system did it all with not one issue…. This PENTIUM PROCESSOR is FAST and gets it done!!! I’ve had it for four days now and so far I am loving it! Looks like its a keeper!

This has been one of the better laptop purchases I have made. Almost went for a Surface but like this small powerhouse better. Screen rez of Full HD is awesome, weight is awesome, thin size works out so well. With the shift key was larger (common complaint) and perhaps backlighting, but those are quibbles. Got this for $399 and love it.

    Great machine, bad WiFi.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Brought one of these machines home a couple of days ago and was very pleased about everything the form factor, the feel of the keyboard, speed, screen etc... EXCEPT WiFi performance was awful. Logging on to Lenovo's website I downloaded the latest drivers and installed all Windows updates from Microsoft. Still, no go on the WiFi. Sometimes it performs OK, but sometmes it completely loses connectivity. I'm not talking external connectivity, but rather, I can't ping my router's internal gateway. I returned to BestBuy and swapped it out for another only to come home and discover the exact same issues with the replacement, So I dug deeper online and discovered that there are issues with the Qualcom Atheros WiFi chip on this machine and Verizon FIOS routers where the WMM QoS service is enabled (as it is by default). Disabling this setting improved WiFi remarkably. However, that particular setting on the router is meant to prioritize Video streaming over your network, so I'm worried that it's going to negatively affect Netflix. I'm still deciding whether to keep this second machine or return it, too. I've got a couple of other WiFi connected laptops at home an none experiences this issue, so I'm pretty certain it's specific to this Qualcomm chip. I've got to see how it performs in networks other than my home one, and get a feel for my Netflix eperience over a few days and then, I guess, I'll decide which way to go. I don't know whether this is Verizon's fault or Lenovo's, but unfortunately until this WiFi issue is resolved, I can't really recommend the laptop. Which is a shame because, other than that, it's simply an awesome machine.

This was a gift and an upgrade from the laptop I had purchased 5 years ago. I love this!! It is lightening fast, graphics are great, and the sound is surprisingly better than I anticipated. When using it as a tablet it is just perfect. I used to carry my laptop and my tablet which was quite heavy. My Yoga actually fits right inside my handbag and I hardly know its there. I WILL recommend this to friends and family. Bravo!

My hard drive crashed after 2 months. I called them for just the recovery disk, that I would purchase the drive I wanted, and I didn't want to wait for them to put their junk back in. They said they would only sell me the recovery for 60 dollars. It's under warranty. BEWARE. MAKE A RECOVERY DISC ASAP or in this case a recovery flash drive. I bought my last Lenovo.

This system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. There is a very small pin hole on the right side of the device, near the power button and the HDMI port. You will need a pin to push the button. Push this button with a pin with the system plugged in. The system will boot to a choice screen where you can choice to restore to factory default. Select this choice. The system should restore to factory default setting of the operating system. All files will be deleted. You will need to reinstall your software once the system is restored. lenovo

One thing makes this pretty much unusable

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As a touch typist, I am used to keys being in a particular location (because, see, I've been typing for over 35 years). The right shift key is not in its normal location, it was moved to the right to make room for an arrow key and this makes the keyboard all but unusable for me, a writer. The rest of the laptop is a great little laptop: light, highly portable, great display. This is a very sad thing. Were it not for this one HUGE design flaw, I would be most pleased with this purchase. Were it not after hours, I would be returning this item right now.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Yoga 710-11. With regard to the right shift key issue you mention, there is a free software APP called KeyTweak that may help you. You can switch the key functions of specific keys on your keyboard with this software, so you could change the right shift key with the key you hit in its place. Just Google search "KeyTweak" and you will find articles about what the software does and you will find the download location for this free APP. lenovo

Horrible, horrible products! Bought the Lenovo Flex first. Had nothing but problems-never had any real problems with computers before this. When I tapped the screen as often as not it would zoom instead of going to selected item. Did this even with magnification switch OFF. No fix from tech support after 2 tries. Had to buy this Yoga because store wouldn't give full refund after 14 days. The Yoga worked pretty well for 2 or 3 days. Then it would barely access anything on the internet. It froze up or sometimes showed a blank page which might finally load after 2 or 3 min. Computer became slow in general. Sometimes it would say "page can't be reached". Other devices hooked to my wifi worked fine. I had only one device connected at a time. Pressed ctl-alt-delete and found delete key was stuck. When unstuck still no change. Really, really bad products.

Since the system was working properly for 2 or 3 days then went bad, it sound like there was an automatic Windows 10 update that conflicts with older drivers on this system. You can restore to a restore point on your device prior to the issues you are currently having. If you have no restore point before the issues occurred, try looking for driver updates for your specific system. Follow the link below to look for new driver updates for your specific system. As always, be sure to create a restore point on your system before you make any changes. Here is the link:

IF YOU CAN TYPE - DO NOT BUY

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If you know how to type, don't buy this computer!! Someone at Lenvo thought it would be a good idea to swap the shift key with the up arrow. No big deal if you don't know how to type, but if you do it will ruin your life. And the Lenovo response... well just try this app to swap keys. REally? That is the solution. I've spent an hour messing with the remapping program, and still doesn't work right. You really think I want to spend any more time with this? I cannot believe this is the intelligence at Lenovo. U N B E L I E V E A B L E, I truly hope that a series of people lost their job over this, as these genius's would be better off working in a place requiring little to no brain usage. Hey, as long as you;re recommending third party software to swap keys, why don't you include a tutorial on how to physically remove the key caps too? So, to wrap this up.... DO NOT BUY. DO NOT BUY. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
