Customers love the Yoga 710's screen quality, light weight, and long battery life. Many appreciate its ease of use and the ample RAM, although some found the keyboard layout and limited number of USB ports to be less than ideal. The design is frequently praised, but the fan noise was a point of concern for some users. A few also mentioned issues with the size and placement of certain keys.

Not bad, when it's functioning.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer on Christmas Eve, 2016. After reading the reviews for this computer, I thought it was a solid buy, had impressive specs - especially because a comparable computer/tablet was significantly more expensive - and I decided to pull the trigger on it. Rather than going with a tablet with a blue tooth keyboard, I opted to go for a touch screen lap top. First, the good: The resolution on the screen is quite good, and the display is glossy with crisp colors. Processing speed is wonderful, and there were no issues running programs. The touch screen was responsive, and precise. In short, it ran exactly as it should. The not so good: The high gloss finish of the screen, and even the matte black of the shell of the laptop, are fingerprint magnets. If seeing fingerprints on your items is a "thing" for you, then I would say stay away. It's unavoidable. A nit-picky thing is the location of the Shift key on the right side of the keyboard, which is literally driving me crazy. In order to squeeze in all of the keys that needed to be squeezed into he full sized keyboard, the arrow keys are located just below the shift key. The up-arrow is located directly to the left of the Shift key. I use this shift key when capitalizing letters as I type. Having the up arrow next to a smaller shift key means that 90% of the time, I try to capitalize a letter, the cursor moves up one line, to the wrong sentence. If you're typing quickly, this can mean that you are typing a sentence mid-way through the sentence preceding it. It's very annoying, but it's personal to me - so I'm not sure if you will experience this. The wifi connection is also not good. I have no idea why, but the machine is poor to pick up a wifi signal. If you're in an area where the signal strength is below excellent, good luck getting online at a speed we would consider reasonable in 2017. If it's a low signal, just use your phone for the internet. Seriously. It's that bad. Windows 10: I just don't like it. Maybe it's the learning curve, maybe it's the layout - but I'm not a fan. It just doesn't seem intuitive, and when you're into tablet mode, it's even worse. This could change in time though, we'll see. The bad: Battery life. Horrible. The thing burns through a charge like nothing I've seen. I think my first IBM laptop in 1999 had better battery life. That's not hyperbole. If you don't have this machine plugged in while you're working you could probably hold your breath longer than this holds a charge. Ok, maybe that last part was a bit of hyperbole, but you get the point. It's not good. It doesn't work: So I've had this machine for about three months. Two months in and the monitor goes from crisp and sharp to this weird purple plaid color. . . then to this strange green/purple plaid pattern . . . then just some stripes and mostly grey. I guess the whole "yoga" theme where you can turn the monitor backward (you know, it's intended usage) can wreak havoc on the monitor connections. Mine came loose. Best Buy's Geek Squad was very reasonable, and within about 14 days, they had my machine shipped off, fixed, and sent back to the store - and kept me apprised of the updates the whole way. Great! Literally 6 minutes after I get the computer home, my wife is using the touch screen and the plaid screen of death is back! Naturally, I look at it to see what's the matter, and what-do-ya-know - same exact thing. So, I take it back to Best Buy for the 2nd time in three months because it's not working. Allegedly, the monitor cable was bad, and so was the display. Still waiting on parts to come in. At the end of the day, I bought this computer because of the specs, the touch screen, and the price. What I should have done is buy a Mac Book or iPad Pro, ate the difference in price, and had a functioning and intuitive product. Live and learn I guess.

Great high performance compact laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great high performance laptop, especially for the price. I run heavy duty programs like Autocad, solid works, and inventor, all of which this handles with ease. The construction is excellent and the portability is wonderful. The screen is very bright during the day, and the viewing angle is very wide at any direction. The SSD and fan combo is extremely quiet, even when the processor is being run hard. Battery life surprised me. I can get 9 hours doing browsing and basic work. 5+ on heavy duty programs. All in all, you will never find a better laptop at this price.

So far I'm minimally impressed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Could be because I'm used to using a Macbook, not sure, but I'm only minimally impressed with this laptop. There's a lag when I open programs and I've only had the laptop for maybe a week now. The trackpad is also less responsive than the macbook trackpad. I would also have to concur with the other reviews I've read about the VERY odd right Shift key. It's small and the pgUp button sits where it normally sits on a standard keyboard so it's definitely an issue. On the other hand, the touchscreen interface is highly responsive, pictures look great, it's light but feels durable and it's a great price for what you get. I compared the screen resolution to the macbook air and it's not bad.

Solid Computer, Great Deal, No Major Flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After many hours of searching, I came to the conclusion that this computer- the Lenovo Yoga 710 15.6" was the best option on the web. You can find the specs sheet here: http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Export/20160801/182810918/YOGA%20710%2015%20single%20model%20201608011828.pdf. Note- I've had this laptop for 2 days at the time of writing the review. Pros: 1. The physical design and footprint of the laptop is smaller than what you'd normally expect from a 15.6" computer- the bezels on the sides and on the top of the screen are less than or equal to 0.5" in width- with the side bevels being around 0.3"- this is apparent from the photos in the product description. The laptop is quite thin and only weighs 4.4 pounds- a stark contrast to other 15.6" laptops, which typically run from 4.6-5.2 pounds in weight. 2. The screen is bright with a maximum output of 300 nits. Of course, the color balance and contrast can be changed. 3. The computer runs relatively quietly, even when running heavy applications. This is good because loud fans can be distracting and annoying to roommates who are trying to sleep, or to fellow students in lecture halls. 4. The keyboard is crisp and responsive to touch- no mushiness is observed. 5. The laptop is quite quick of course- it has an i7 6500u processor, 16 gb of ddr4 2133 mhz ram, a 256 gb ssd, and a discrete nvidia geforce 940mx graphics card which can be switched on when the integrated intel graphics 520 starts to get overloaded. Time from power-on to login screen is around 3-5 seconds and shutdown time is around 10 seconds. 6. Sound quality from the speakers is quite good in the low and medium ranges, though like with many laptop computers, higher registers can be a bit weak. 7. The 720p web camera works well. 8. Battery life, considering the discrete graphics card, the bright screen, and the powerful microprocessor, is good. In my experience, 7 hours of moderate-heavy use. Cons: 1. Like other laptops of the 510 and 710 line, the right shift key is interestingly placed- instead of it being to the direct right of the / or ? key, it is to the right of an up arrow key- a departure from standard laptop keyboard arrangements. This change will take a bit of time to adjust to- even I sometimes accidentally press the up arrow in lieu of the right shift key when using capital letters. 2. The touchpad tracks my finger motion well, but the lower- right side of the touchpad will actually go down about 0.5 millimeters before it hits resistance and starts the clicking process. In other words, it seems like there is a two-stage click on the right side of the touchpad. However, the actual clicking sound the touchpad makes is not very loud- a plus. 3. Because of the thin bezel, the touchscreen might take some time to get used to, especially when you're making contact with the corners of the screen. Sometimes I'll have to press an area twice before I can get the screen to register, though once I enabled visual feedback of my touches on the screen this occurrence dropped to about 5% of the time I used the screen. 4. I believe this is the fan, but the interior of the computer makes a static-y/buzzing sound when it is operating. 5. No RJ-45 ethernet port, but this is a minor con at least for me. 6. The metal chassis that makes the design of this a pro can attract fingerprints- clean them off every once in a while. Overall, a great computer for the price. Rate 9/10 and would recommend to anyone. Hope you found this helpful

Great Birthday Gift
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this laptop. So much smaller than the previous monster I had, and much faster. The SSD boots up quickly, it's light weight so easy to carry around, and I'm able to play my favorite games on highsettings (World of Warcraft and my secret shame ... Sims 4). I was surprised that space hasn't been an issue so far, but I started using an SD Card immediately and moved a lot of my OneDrive photos onto an external hard drive to help reduce clutter. If I did anything with this laptop, it would definitely be upgrade the SSD, and am already looking at that option. The only cons I've found so far are that it's very prone to fingerprints, and the touch screen can be a little laggy in tablet mode.

Fast but flimsy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop based on solid specs, an attractive design, and recommendations from three separate BB salesmen, but returned it two weeks later due to some minor but still annoying design issues. Another reviewer has mentioned the awkward placement of the right shift key, which is smaller and further to the left than on a full size keyboard. This slowed my typing quite a bit at first, and while I did start getting used to it, I found it hard to transition between this laptop and my desktop at work. The keyboard itself also felt flimsy, to the point where I could hear springs squeaking under the backspace key and several of the letters when typing in a quiet room. Not a huge deal, but disappointing for a new laptop. Finally, I didn't like the fact that there were no separate volume keys (apart from F2 & F3), that the keyboard backlight seemed to turn on and off at random, and that the Yoga's sleek design made it difficult to open with one hand. At a technical level, the laptop performed marvelously. The i7 processer and solid state drive make this an ultra fast machine, and the screen display is stunning. However, given that I plan to use my next laptop for five years or more, I need something that doesn't feel so flimsy right out of the box. I am now trying a comparable Dell model that is slightly bulkier but feels more solidly built. Fingers crossed that it will last the next five years....

pretty awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this laptop but unfortunately am having a minor problem. If anyone knows the solution to this problem please comment on my review and i'll be notified by email. Problem: There seems to be two issues that always happen simultaneously so I believe they are related somehow. I notice that fairly frequently I lose my wifi connection and at the exact same time my touchpad mouse begins to act erratic. The mouse will jump all over the screen and just act crazy. The mouse ONLY does this when there is a wifi problem. One has never happened without the other. Always a wifi connection problem and erratic touchpad simultaneously. So when I notice the mouse goes all crazy I know the wifi isn't working so I try to load a new page and bam.... wifi problem. I updated the wifi driver which did need updating and the elan pointing device driver did not need updating. I rebooted and still have the same problems. I don't know how these two issues are related but they definitely seem to be! My router doesn't seem to be the best router because it often needs rebooted and I've had issues with other devices. So when this happens I reboot the router and sometimes the modem also. Then I disconnect from wifi and re connect and the issue goes away. But this happens several times a day. I love this computer very much and it was such a great value and I bought it for a steal I want to make this work!!! Someone please help if you can. Thanks. At this point I'd still recommend this to a friend and i'm still giving this 4 stars (would have been five) but this problem has to be resolved soon or I know it will lead to extreme dissatisfaction. Thanks

I loved this laptop but returned it due to size
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved this beautiful laptop. Blazing fast, stayed so cool, speakers were great, folded smoothly, loved the keyboard. But I wanted something to use in tablet mode and at this price ( 1600 when you add in a Geek Warranty and tax ) it was too big at 15.6 inches and too pricey. I miss it ;=) I will buy Lenovo in the future I'm sure. I looked at the 900 but I liked the 710 more.

Fantastic Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Thus laptop is excellent. I could not find anything to complain about, and in writing this review, I have tried. The specs are absurd(ly good) for the price I paid ($700), though this laptop is a good deal at the current price as well. The performance is amizing, the boot time is almost non-existent, the touchscreen is responsive and the laptop is absolutely beautiful. The build quality is great and the computer doesn't become uncomfortably hot. A problem I see often mentioned it the right shift key, however this has yet to be a problem, I adapted very quickly. Overall I would recommend this laptop, you can't get these specs anywhere else for this price.

Initial Impression - Great value for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a little bit big for my taste because I prefer 14" - 12", so it is something that oddly bothers me. Although it is preferable for a graphic design major. I was amazed that I could get a 16gb ram, i7 processor, and a NVidia graphic card for only $899.99, which was reduced to $749.99 with the student discount. I did do a "speed test" where I opened multiple files of Photoshop with many layers and opened up a Dreamweaver website at the same time. It did not even lag even a little bit. My s x360 with i5 and 8gb ram would significantly lag doing the same tasks causing a lot of frustration when doing design and/or web projects. I can see this putting up with basic after effect projects where my previous laptop, would have been awful to work with. [Also a warning... I had my other laptop for almost a year and it shut off mid-use, despite showing no issues earlier and would not turn on or charge. It ended up being a motherboard issue. Thankfully, I had Geek Squad Protection and was issued a replacement which is how I obtained the Yoga 710] The screen is beautiful and the laptop is suprsingly thin. The only issue I can see is that the battery life will vary greatly with use. With my type of school work, it may only last about 4 hours and I have yet to see 8 hours on light use. The backlight of the keyboard is a nice feature and I enjoy the touchscreen. I will do an update after a few months of use. So far I would recommend this to a graphic design student who needs a more powerful machine on a budget.

Best Machine for the Money, period.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I give this laptop 5 stars, not because it's perfect but because it's the best value one can get for the budget. As the matter of fact there are some serious concessions that you'll have to make but I think it's more than worth it. I picked this one up at the 849 discount week, with 150 college discount and an open box discount, so I ended up paying a little over 650 including tax. That being said, even at 899 (the current discount) this is still the best value. Why? read on. First of, 16GB Ram, 256GB SSD and a dedicated (albeit DDR3 version) GPU for less than 1000, combined with the portability of this machine is great. The footprint of this laptop is almost identical to a macbook pro. Second and for me more important is the reason why I chose this laptop. I'm a UX designer and use Illustrator & Photoshop on a daily basis. I needed a second macbook pro but since Apple hasn't realeased anything new in a long time, I couldn't justify spending $2800 on a machine that has a Broadwell chip in it, which is just slightly better than the Haswell Macbook Pro that I already own. I decided that I wanted a laptop for the interim and was willing to spend around $500 for it. I didn't care if it would break in a year, I just needed it to run Photoshop and Illustrator and was willing to sacrifice speed for budget. Now, when I saw the specs on this laptop, I banked out a little bit more money and ordered this machine. It's a signature edition (or very close to it) since it has almost no bloatware. quickly installed some of my programs on it and decided to do a head to head test with my macbook pro. It's a Haswell Macbook Pro with 8GB of Ram and 256GB of SSD and a quad core i7. I was pleasently surprised that photoshop started about 1 second faster than my macbook. I expected it to be slower. Illustrator, however, was a huge difference. On the Lenovo it started 10 seconds faster. It didn't just stop there, saving files, exporting files and actions were faster as well. Pretty good for a interim laptop, right? Third, everything is absolutely beautiful about this laptop. The minimal bezels are beautiful, the keyboard types nice a fast, The whole body is made out of aluminum and the presenter mode is perfect to watch a movie in bed. Turning the speakers upward and dispersing the heat a bit better so the fans don't spin that much. I've played simple games like Dota2 and smite with no problem. Streaming from my Xbox for more demanding games is flawless. Now, I read some complaints about the right shift button and indeed, it's pretty annoying but I remapped the up key to also be a shift key, done. One big thing is the fan noise however. It is really loud, even while idle. The community however is pretty active and I'm confident that TPFC will bring out a fix for it so we can control our fans. Because the CPU temp is pretty cool under load. So I don't really understand why the fans are spinning. If you're looking for a quite laptop, don't get this laptop. Some other small cons: *wifi card is not as good as my old macbook pro *touchpad is weird but I come from apple so I bought a bluetooth mouse. solved. If you're looking for a good laptop under 1000, this is by far your best companion.

I would recommend--especially at the 849.99 price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this laptop in the mail and all I can say is wow! I'm not sure what others were experiencing with this laptop, but I only have good things to say about this laptop! Build quality is great and the 2 in 1 laptop does not feel flimsy. The hinges on this device seem to be very, very strong and they seem like they will last a long time, Everything else is normal about this laptop and everything would seem to be in place. The gripe about the shift key just above the arrow keys doesn't bother me, but I am left handed. Right handed people may be bothered a little more by the tiny shift key on the right side of the computer. For $850 minus the student discount that many are getting, this computer is a no-brainer. With an I-7 processor and 2 GB of dedicated graphics, this computer needs to have a second look by many.

Strong Specs, Strong Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this laptop for about 2 weeks now and so far I'm really impressed. I have a few nit-picky issues with it but overall this is a very versatile and slick machine. Pros: 1. Fast - The strong specs and SSD make this laptop really quick 2. Gorgeous Display - Bright and vibrant; love watching shows/videos on this 3. Portable - Really lightweight for a 15" model. Great for taking it with you on-the-go Cons: 1. Weak Speakers - Even on max volume it sounds muffled. Would recommend an external speaker or just use headphones. 2. Bulky Power Adapter - This has one of those annoying plugs where it will either be blocking your outlet so you can't plug anything else in or you won't be able to plug it in because of the design. The length of the cord is also pretty short. I remedied this by getting a short extension cord.
