Great specs and design, but poor execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Lenovo Yoga 900 after doing a lot of research online and at the store. I liked the 2 in 1 feature and wanted a Windows 10 computer. I thought this computer offered the best specs, design and price. I really wanted to like the computer; however, after 2 weeks of using it, I couldn't deal with the numerous problems of the machine and ended up returning it. Pros: 1. very lightweight - this computer weighs nothing compared to other laptops on the market 2. excellent battery life - would consistently get between 6-8 hours depending on the type of usage 3. 2 in 1 design is great 4. HD screen looks incredible - I have switched to macbook pro with retina display and I think Yoga's screen looks better 5. Speed - with 16GB of RAM, core i7 and SSD this machine is lightning fast! Cons: 1. Trackpad - from the very start, the trackpad would not work properly. First, the multi-finger gestures that would zoom out to show all programs that are open, would stop working any time the computer went to sleep. I had to restart it to get the gestures backs. Then, after a week of using the trackpad, it would stop responding for 3 seconds at a time, which would happen every couple of minutes. I have done research online and it appears that this is a common complaint for this specific synaptics trackpad which is also installed on a number of other laptops. I have tried reinstalling all types of drivers from Lenovo, Synaptics and Microsoft and non of this helped. I have updated the BIOS, Windows and everything else that could be updated. Nothing made it better. This truly, made the laptop unusable, and was the deal breaker for me. What good are all the specs, when you can't even use the trackpad. Maybe it's a Windows 10 issue. 2. Video driver would crash periodically. One day, it happened 5 times in one hour of internet browsing. I updated the driver, and it seemed to have resolved the issue, but for others writing reviews it appears that this has not helped. 3. Screen resolution does not scale well with some programs/websites. The text appears very small and makes it difficult to read/see what you are clicking on. 4. Keyboard - I don't know if it's the shallow keys, but I found it difficult to type on the keyboard without making a ton of mistakes that I usually do not on my other computers. It just didn't feel natural. I do like the layout of the keyboard and the function buttons, though. 5. The charger is poorly designed. When plugged into the outlet, it blocks the outlet next to it, so another devise can not be plugged in. Furthermore, the USB-like charging plug on the computer sticks out way too far out the side of the computer. 6. Side power button, I've hit the power button a few times when picking up the computer to move to another location, as a result accidentally turning off the machine. In the end, I really wanted to like the computer, and there is a lot to like, including it's slim design, weight, specs, and battery life. However, problems with the trackpad and the video driver, really made this computer unusable. I ended up returning the computer after two weeks of trying to get it to work properly, wasting too many hours on a brand new machine. At this price point I would expect to work perfectly out of the box. I ended up finally switching to a Macbook Pro after using only PCs my entire life. The Macbook simply works. It's taking some getting used to, but I am not wasting my time trying to get something to work that should have worked out of the box.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a current MacBook Pro user and was looking for something that weighs under 3lbs. so that I can carry it with me for travel. I would love to take my MBP, but that thing weighs over 5lbs. So I decided to give a Windows 10 device a chance as I wanted to have an alternative to OS X just in case there are applications that are not compatible with it. So I did some research and finally nailed it down to this and the Dell XPS 13. So, I decided to get one of each to test out. At first impression, the Yogo 900 is a beautiful Ultrabook. I ordered the one in Gold. It was light, thin and has a great screen. Has a lot of connections available. But, that's where all of the positives stop. First off, the keyboard layout was not very user friendly. The right shift key is the size of a regular letter key. Not your usual shift key size that you would have on the left side. The arrow keys are all squished together and prone to mistakes. I do like that there are page up/down keys available, but not at the expense of the keys being smaller than normal. I'm not too high on the added action keys on the top row that also acts as the F keys. Ok, so the keyboard layout I can live with, but the performance of the device is where this failed for me and ended up returning the unit. Being that I am an Apple guy, I missed not being to go back to the previous page by just swiping left to right on the track pad. But in order to do this with Win 10, I would have to press the left arrow and alt keys. I just felt that it was inconvenient and not efficient. The track pad is another fail as there is a delay and not smooth scrolling or pinching functionalities. When scrolling, the track pad either didn't scroll like I would want it to. It would either overshoot the or not get it right where I want to scroll to. Also, when watching a video, if you play with the volume, the picture starts to jitter and kind of shake a little. I think this is more of an OS issue than the Yoga itself. The screen is only 300 NITS, which is not very bright if you are in a well light room. One last thing is the battery on this thing was not very consistent. At one point, it would say that I have about 9 hours remaining on the Battery Saver mode. But then 5 minutes later, it drops down to about 5 hours. This is when I'm just browsing and not even streaming. If you are coming from a Mac, I would definitely vote against buying this device or any Windows device. You are going to be disappointed big time and the user experience is not as smooth and functional.

Outstanding 2 in 1 Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using my Lenovo for 3 months and it is performing flawlessly. It is lightning fast and handles whatever I throw at it with ease. My only little nit pick is the placement/size of the backspace and home keys but I'm coming from using a MacBook Pro for the last 9 years so I was expecting there to be a few things I'd need to adjust to. Even though I got 9 trouble-free years out of my MacBook, I just couldn't cough up the $$$$ for a new one and decided to give this little gem a shot. I can't speak to the longevity but I am enjoying it and have no real complaints. It's fast and responsive. The touchscreen is great and the watch-style hinge is not only attractive it's very sturdy and easily holds the screen in any position. The battery life is fantastic and I'm adapting easily to Windows 10. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat!

Nice PC - power supply needs work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.5 stars if it wasn't for a very awkward power supply. The blades are centered in the middle and orientation is at right angle to length which means it occupies a whole standard wall outlet. Using a power strip also means you end up using 3 spaces. Be sure to get a little extension or you will be very grumpy.

Slick hardware but too many issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I need a high-power road warrior laptop and went for the Yoga 900 for it's sleek design, light weight, hot chip, memory and 512 GB of SSD storage. It was to double as a desktop. Problem 1 - advertised as coming with a USB Type C to HDMI adapter. It does not. The people at Best Buy did the right thing and got me one. Within minutes of first boot the real problems started. First, screen resolution on the extended display I use was a mess (some Microsoft issues#. Warning - if you get a really high resolution laptop, second screens will be an issue. Next, the display adapter kept crashing. I looked for fixes, updated drivers, and called Lenovo support. They told me to update everything with drivers from their site, which I did, and if that failed to return it. It failed, but I soldiered on hoping to find an answer (never did#. Next, the system became unstable - lots of red in the event viewer. It actually went BSOD twice. Outlook crashed 4 times. The final straw - when it goes to sleep, it will not wake up. I have to power down #holding the power button) and then re-start, hoping that windows will recover my work. After a week and many hours spent trying to make it work, I gave up and returned it. Sorry, Lenovo, but a high-end laptop should not be a burden. I bought an HP Spectre X360 to replace it. Hoping for a better experience.

Nice computer BUT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the machine, it is very quiet, very fast, and seems to work as advertised. My one problem is after a week the screen went blank and stopped working. The power is on and fan running but completely black screen. I took back to Best Buy and they quickly gave me a new one. Hopefully #2 lasts longer.

good laptop but overheat issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the product overall. My biggest problem is the heat it generates when I run streaming video, such as cnn. I had to buy a laptop cooler so that my legs won't get too hot. BTW, I did all the driver updates, as per lenovo website, including the bios update. Also I found the keyboard to be error prone, so I need to be extra careful when I type. Perhaps it's a matter of getting used to it when coming from a logitech one.

Fantastic machine, but does not come with adapter
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop itself is absolutely fantastic, however it *does not* come with the Type C-to-HDMI connector! If you are making your decision on whether or not you can connect it to an external TV/monitor, please know that you cannot easily do that out of the box

Great Computer much better than expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After retirement my wife and I travel a lot. We always bring a computer or two. She has a Mac Pro which is great. The 900 is just as great. Display as good, just as fast, and lighter, and best of all price is a lot less. Have the LG blue ray disc write read and connects to the 900 power usb and run great. With the mac pro I had to buy a longer usb cord and connector because you needed to connect it to two ports 1 for power and 1 for input play or write and cost additional money. The 900 was designed much better. and costs a lot less.

This Computer is a Beast! Meaning great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Laptop is fast, stylish, solidly built, and well equipped. It is a top of the line computer at a fairly low price for what it has to offer. It was a little glitchy with the drives during initial start up and I had to do a entire reset but so far, nothing that makes me regret my purchase. Get this laptop!

MORE THAN EXPECTED
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was having a difficult time deciding between buying the Yoga 900 and the Surface Book and after looking at the reviews and comparing them in person at Best Buy I chose the Yoga for two reasons. One, the price was just a lot better. However, knowing that you get what you pay for worried me a bit, but the reviews were quite a bit better for the Yoga then the Surface Book. Additionally, I also know that Best Buy has a 15 day return policy with no restocking fee (Yea for Best Buy). My second reason for choosing the Yoga is that I liked the fact that you could just flip it around to turn it into a tablet and everything stays together. This is unlike the Surface Book, which requires you to press the button to release the screen, wait on the green light, disengage the screen; then turn it around and reconnect if you want to keep it all together. Based on those two reasons I chose the Yoga, but when I got it home and opened it up WOW was I surprised. This thing is FAST! It is so fast that when I brought it to work and an associate used it she commented on how fast it was and she had a just bought a brand new computer; jealously was in her eyes. I've found converting the Yoga back and forth between a laptop and a tablet to be joyfully easy. It's lightweight enough to carry with your paperwork and almost not notice its there. Great Product, kudos to Lenovo. I hope this thing last.

Great Computer, One Flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from a Lenovo Yoga 13. I really like this computer. It s quick, and operates flawlessly. I really like that it didn't come preloaded with unwanted software. My only complaint is the keyboard. It is quirky as the reviews indicate. I thought the back light on the keyboard was broken. I tried entering FN and space with no success. Finally I learned you have to press the space bar from the center. It does not respond when pressed on the sides. It is a big problem almost prompting me to give it 3 stars but everything else is perfect.

I wanted to like this Laptop...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Yoga 900 2 days ago (coming from Macbook Air 13"). I love the Yoga 900 "form factor", Windows 10, and the processing power/storage "on paper" (16gb/512); however, today the computer stopped typing and the backspace/delete button stopped working. I returned it and bought the Macbook retina 12"($999). I love Windows 10 & Apple. So I will use Parallels and install Windows 10 on my new Macbook 12". I hope that Lenovo's quality will pick up because they really are onto something with this Yoga 2in1 line. I love the fact that you get a laptop AND tablet in one device. I just don't trust the quality yet.

Smart Purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop, the top of the line version, about 3 months ago. What I love about this laptop are the overall ergonomics, the screen, battery life, weight, build quality, and speed of operation. The trackpad is really nice and responsive, unlike what I usually come across in PCs. What I would suggest is wait for the sale, then jump on it. That's when I purchased it, for around $1200. No other laptop comes close to this, with this configuration. I never trusted Dells and much less HPs. I would also ignore Asus, and Acer. The only problem that I see with this laptop is the lack of a USB-C to HDMI dongle within the box. You'll have to shell out the money for a good one. I heard a lot of good things about the Dell dongle. But I am considering purchasing the intel/microsoft wireless display dongle instead. I also would have liked the Intel Iris pro graphics on the laptop. A major problem with Windows 10 is the DPI scaling. It works in some places, while it doesn't, at others. So, some legacy programs have tiny icons, making it hard to work with them. Microsoft needs to really address this issue. I don't think there is much Lenovo can do about it. Maybe, they can release a 1080p display option, for now.

Third time was not a charm
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the first one and was real happy with it until I noticed on the 6th day that the sound was not working. Called Lenovo and they confirmed the sound card wasn't working. Went back to BB and exchanged it for a new one. That one would not even turn on. One hour later exchanged it for a third one. Got home, powered up fine, played music fine. Less than 24 hours later - no sound. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I really liked the Lenovo.

Make sure you test drive this laptop first
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My previous laptop was a MacBook.......I bought the Yoga 900 went on a business trip and couldn't wait to get home and return it for another MacBook Pro. The Yoga touch pad is very slow to respond, and some of the keys are very small and scrunched together.....get used to hitting the backspace key.

Couple of Problems - screen resolution and WiFi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On paper, looked very good. FIRST PROBLEM - the screen is TOO high resolution. The software, whether Microsoft or Lenovo, is broken. Some text and icons are incredibly small, less than 1mm or about 1/32 inch high. Almost impossible to read this as text. Really bad as icons. Can't possibly select these icons with touch. Has to be a carefully aimed mouse. 2nd problem - weak WiFi reception. Doesn't stay connected in a moderately weak area. It's probably due to inadequate engineering. My 7 year old Lenovo has a better WiFi subsystem. Would NOT buy again.

Posted .Thank you for choosing the Yoga 900-13. Hopefully we can help you with the issues you mentioned: With regard to the screen resolution, you are correct, the default resolution on the Yoga 900-13 is 3200x1800(QHD) and it is not compatible with a lot of software applications. You can easily adjust the screen resolution to a lower number by right clicking on your Windows 10 desktop. The select "Display Settings" within the pop up box that appears. Within settings will be "Display" and in that tap you can lower the screen resolution to a level that makes sense for you and the programs you use. With regard to the WiFi connectivity issue, that sounds like a WiFi LAN driver that needs to be updated. Follow the link below to look for new driver updates for your specific system. You can also run diagnostics from the Lenovo site as well. As always, be sure to create a restore point on your system before you make any changes. We hope these tips correct the issues you mentioned and your experience with the Yoga 900-13 improves. You really did choose an amazing computer in the Yoga 900. We sincerely hope you enjoy it.
