The perfect convertible?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The latest upgrade to the Yoga series is a good one. The processor is quick, the display is sharp, the touchscreen is responsive, the sound is excellent, and the pen is amazing. One of my key disappointments with my last convertible notebook was the lack of pen input. This pen feels great writing on the screen, and there is no lag at all. A nice touch is the holder that clips into the USB port. It's easy to take out if you want to use that port, but it's also secure enough that you don't have to worry about it falling out accidentally. One minor quibble with the pen is the separate batteries for the Bluetooth radio. They are extremely tiny coin cells, and I can see it being a pain to find replacements and swap them out. It's unclear why you would need separate batteries from the AAA cell in the body of the pen. My only other minor complaint is the hinge. While it works just fine, I don't like the appearance that much, and there's just a teeny bit of spring in the lid when it's folded back in tablet mode. Other than that, the case is fantastic. It's nice and stiff, and the bronze color really stands out from the standard black, silver, or even rose gold options out there. The keyboard is very easy to type on with just the right amount of play in the keys, and the backlight under the keys is even adjustable. If you're looking to upgrade, this is definitely worth the money.

Posted .We are sorry to hear that you had an issue with the keyboard on your Lenovo Yoga 920-14. From the description of the issue you are experiencing with your Yoga 920-14 and its keyboard, a restoration of the device back to original factory settings. This system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. There is a very small pin hole on the right side of the device, right near the power button on the device. You will need a pin to push this reset button. Plug the device in. Let the battery charge for about 15 minutes. Push the reset button. The system should boot to a choice screen where you can choose "Restore To Factory Default". Select this. It will delete everything from the hard drive except the original factory install of the operating system. You will need to reinstall all programs and files after the reset. If you don't have copies of the files, try to make one before you restore by selecting "Boot to desktop" and trying to back up your files. If the problem persists after the factory reset, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686.

I'm not sure what to make of this laptop...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never had a "premium" laptop before, and I honestly don't see why this is considered premium for anything other than the external appearance. The outside is a very nice feeling slick metal with minimal branding, only a small "yoga" in an upper corner. This looks and feels very premium, but comes with it's own downsides. The primary downside that I see with the material is that it is slick to hold on to, and with a 14" screen the balance can easily shift, making it difficult to carry when not in a bag. When you open the computer, the screen appears very oddly placed. It does have fairly narrow bezels around the screen on the sides, with a thicker bezel on the top to accommodate the camera. Where it seems profoundly odd and imbalanced is that the bottom bezel is at least an inch thick. It makes the screen look like it is always blocking off something at the bottom. However, the screen is very sharp which is one of the most important aspects of a laptop. I've had screens that weren't clear enough on laptops and it is what has driven me to buying new ones in the past. Some unusual decisions were made with the keyboard as well. Perhaps because the body of the computer is so slim, the keys barely travel when typing, which can make it difficult to tell that you aren't mistyping when not watching your screen closely. Additionally, they decided that the assigned functions (such as volume and brightness controls) were more important than the actual function keys. Rather than just being able to press Alt+F4 to close a program, you have to press Alt+Fn+F4. All of the shortcuts that you may know and use frequently will require additional keys to be pressed to be used. The back-light is nice, with 3 settings (off/low/high). After typing for a while, you get more used to it, but after a couple of hours I still find myself missing or double-hitting keys. Similarly, the touch-pad feels very nice, but can be a little difficult to right-click because the entire pad can be used for clicking. I found this most difficult when setting up the task-bar and inadvertently opened the few bits of random bloat "services" added by Lenovo. I find myself right-clicking a lot when doing actual work (quick controls for Excel and Word), and am concerned that this will be significantly slowed when not using a mouse. This is an issue that I find myself having with most touchpads, but particularly when there is no real distinction for the right-click. The JBL speakers offer reasonable output for such a slim laptop, but you're still going to want external speakers or headphones if you want even a modicum of bass, which tends to distort at even moderate volume. As for the "yoga" form factor, perhaps there are uses that I'm not seeing, but I've never actually seen anyone use a laptop tented or as a tablet. All of that said, the slim form-factor is nice, and surprising for a laptop of this size. Also, having the latest processor and an SSD ensures that this computer will stay on top of application requirements (other than top-of-the-line games). Many of my complaints may be nit-picking as this is likely a great computer for someone, but perhaps not for me.

Posted .The Yoga 920-14 is the State-Of-The-Art innovation. It is an ultra portable (weighs just 3.02 lbs. and is .5 inch thick) 2 in 1 functioning computer. It can be used as a laptop or tablet. It is a powerhouse in a small package. The Intel 8th Generation Core I-7-8850u processor is 40% more powerful and efficient than the 7th Generation version. This is the current cutting edge of form meeting function in portable computing.

Flaws In Wifi & External Display Support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This SHOULD be a great laptop, but its potential is limited by what appears to be buggy drivers / support from Lenovo. I purchased this Yoga 920 in mid-Nov 2017 to replace a Yoga 2 Pro I use for work. After 20 years of being a dedicated Lenovo/ThinkPad fan, this machine is my first big disappointment from Lenovo. I expected better given the price-point and specs for this machine. It appears that Lenovo rushed this through to production and released it on users with multiple issues that should have been resolved prior to releasing the product. Here are the issues: 1) UBS-C DP Alt Mode External Monitor Support DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY on this machine. This is a HUGE problem if you have any need to drive an external monitor. Plug-N-Play for an external monitor does not work correctly for USB-C connections, even with Lenovo's connectors/adapters. Lenovo has been silent on resolution for this problem. There is much more information on the woes of users here on this Lenovo forum: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/page/1/thread-id/57774 I've been able to make external USB-C adapters work ONLY when cold-booting the machine. This problem exists with multiple USB-C adapters I've tried from various companies. This is a giant step backwards and Lenovo must fix external monitor plug-n-play before this laptop is can be considered a viable work machine. On Lenovo's forums it's been noted that PnP USB-C monitor support has been successfully achieved with Linux but Windows remains problematic. This would indicate the problem is largely software related and responsibility falls squarely on Lenovo to make sure this problem is resolved. Until then, I recommend avoiding this laptop. I may end up returning mine soon if Lenovo does not take action to fix the problem. 2) The Wifi card and drivers that are authorized by Lenovo for the PC at this time are also buggy. This machine has an Atheros card and many users (as also noted on Lenovo's forums) are having inconsistent Wifi. I've experienced this myself as well and also observe errors in the windows event logs coming from the card. If you are in an environment where there are other wifi access points and devices this machine, with the current drivers allowed by Lenovo, has a very low tolerance for interference. As with the external display issues, this is a showstopper if Lenovo cannot get it fixed. Interestingly, Linux users on Lenovo's forums are reporting more stability with the Wifi so, once again, I'm hoping this is primarily a software/driver issue that will be fixed. 3) Lastly, the keyboard is not what it should be. In the past, Lenovo/Thinkpad keyboards were fantastic, the absolute best. My older Yogo 2 Pro was the first Lenovo I had with a not-as-fantastic keyboard. It had problems and I would consider it middle of the road. At that time I chalked up the design and performance issues for the keyboard to growing pains in the transition to ultrabook formats with more limited profiles for the keyboards and just lived with it. I was optimistic the keyboard on this Yoga 920 would be better. However, it's just OK and, after two weeks of use, the space bar has developed a squeak. So now it sounds like there's a small mouse on my desk when I'm typing. That shouldn't be the case with a machine like this. To summarize, this machine should have been much more awesome than it turns out to be. WiFi and external display support are major issues. I'm optimistic these are software/driver problems but I cannot in good faith recommend this machine with out resolution of these issues. I'm also disappointed that Lenovo did not design a better keyboard. If anyone should know how to make a good keyboard, they should. I'll update this review if we see software updates form Lenovo that resolve the display and wifi issues I noted. For now this machine is not recommended. After 20 years of loyalty to Lenovo, I can't believe it, but I will be giving much higher consideration to other brands for my next laptop because of the flaws with this machine.

Overall very decent machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: great built nice 14' screen fast and responsive decent stylus, no lag beautiful and very sturdy hinges (probably the best of all among 2 in 1 laptops on the market) Cons: loud fans that kick in way too often (even with CPU under 5% load) lack of ports ended up returning it d/t annoying fans. i hope lenovo will fix the problem with the fans and optimize the ports. if it happens i'll be happy to buy yoga 930 but for now i went with samsung notebook 9 pro and am very happy with it!

Posted .With regard to the fan noise you mention, this is a high performance system with its 4-core/8-thread Intel Core i7-8550U processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB solid state hard drive. It will generate heat whenever it is turned on, even at idle, this is normal. The onboard fan will maintain the proper operating temperature for the device. You will hear the fan whenever it runs, this too is normal. This configuration is ultra portable so the number of ports is limited. If you need more USB ports, you might consider using a USB hub with this device.

Dead Pixel 2 Laptops in a Row
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first Lenovo laptop (always had Dell, UP, Gateway in the past) so I was skeptical and curious at the same time. I purchased the Yoga 920 13.9" based on the reviews and aesthetics. Went home, set everything up, started working on documents and then there it was, a tiny black dot on the screen. I Googled it and apparently it's something called a dead pixel. I also noticed that the battery stayed at 95% even when plugged, when I hovered over the battery icon it had this: "(battery plugged, not charging)." I went back to BestBuy the next morning, planned on getting a different laptop, but then I decided to give Lenovo another shot thinking maybe I just got a dud. So this time, I turned on/set up the laptop in the store and did not see any issues with the screen, (yay!...so I thought). One hour into working on the laptop at home and guess what, another dead pixel shows up! Arghhh!!! The location of the black dot on the second laptop was not as bothersome as the first, BUT knowing that the dead pixel will likely eventually turn into a larger group of dead pixels in the future drove me nuts. Needless to say, I returned the Lenovo Yoga laptop and will stick with Dell, HP, or Samsung.

Posted .Since the second device you describe was working fine in the store, this issue sounds like it is caused by programs/software installed on the device during initial setup. Here is a link to instructions for confirming that, in fact, it is hardware or software causing the issue you describe:  https://www.quora.com/Do-I-have-a-dead-pixel-on-my-computer

Great Overall Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a 2012 Macbook for over 5 years and overtime it started to really slow down. I was about to head off for college and was in need of a new laptop. After a lot of research I decided to get this one and it has been an amazing experience. It's super fast, which was important to me. It's light and portable. Although I don't use the touchscreen that much, I find it really convenient to have. I also find myself enjoying the 360 flip-and-fold screen. I really recommend this laptop, especially to college students.

This has been a good, reliable laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop 2 years ago and I use it daily for work and music production. I’ve kept good care of it, keeping a plastic case, screen protector and keyboard cover on it at all times. I absolutely love it. Here’s some things to know if you’re considering it. i7 Dual Core, 8GB RAM, 256GB Let me start by saying all the good things: -This laptop is beautiful and I get compliments on it all of the time -It performs very well for what I use it for I’m an audio engineer and producer. I use FL Studio and it runs it like a charm. Sometimes it has trouble in more extensive situations, but this is what I get for getting only 8GB of RAM -It handles switching between heavy software like its light work -It starts up in a few seconds every time -The touchscreen works flawlessly, and actually makes you want to fold it over and use it as a tablet. I use this feature very often. -The bezel not only looks premium, but has held up exceptionally well -It has been reliable and still runs as fast as the day I got it -All other physical aspects have held up very well Some cons: -No native way to turn off the keyboard in tablet mode, can feel a little awkwad having to avoid pressing the keys -Battery life isn’t the best, but I also use the heck out of it -It gets VERY hot near the battery almost to the point where you can’t touch it when running CPU-extensive software -Loud fans unless you go into the BIOS and adjust this yourself -Nobody knows how to work on these things, few people even know what it is. I had a driver issue after reinstalling Windows that I fixed myself, guys at the computer shop tried to tell me it was dead and that it was a Windows 8 computer. Bleh. -Lenovo doesn’t have the best customer support, but it’s decent -Infrequent Blue Screen crashes, but nothing fatal Overall, this has been a great laptop that I would recommend to anyone. It has a forward thinking, modern look that will look fresh for a long time. I appreciate well made, long lasting products and don’t plan on getting a new laptop anytime soon.

BEST IN ITS CLASS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely stunning looking machine and does everything well. It runs cool and quiet and handles everything an ultrabook should. Not only does it work well as a laptop, it is absolutely gorgeous in the bronze colour way. The keyboard may seem mushy at first but I got used to it very quickly. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sleek and sexy ultrabook. My one complaint is that the edges are quite sharp while using it in tablet mode but I am not a frequent tablet mode user so It doesn't really affect me.

Works with EGPU with GTX1080 and VR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Has 2 thunderbolt ports. One is normally used for charging. The other can be connected to an EGPU such as the Aorus Gaming Box for gaming, etc. This port also charges the laptop when connected eliminating the need for the normal charger. Laptop is fast, light, has long battery life, and charges very quickly. Only negatives in my opinion are that the ssd should be larger and the screen could be a little brighter.
