Customers are saying
Customers find value in the 14x External USB 3.0/2.0 Blu-ray Disc Drive's ease of use and excellent performance, with many praising its compatibility across various operating systems and quiet operation. While some users mentioned the size could be improved and the included software is outdated, the positive feedback on picture quality and speed outweighs these concerns. The drive's affordability is also frequently cited as a significant advantage.

Not for Windows 10
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this DVD blu-ray recorder with USB 3.0 and blu-ray recording expecting great things. Instead, the machine will not work on a Windows 10 platform. Contacted technical support for LG and was informed "too bad, so sad" and do not expect any resolution from us. Great way to spend 149.00 on a wire that has a red LED light in a box. DO NOT PURCHASE if you plan to use it with Windows 10. Really can not say too much good about LG's technical support either

Don't waste your BR discs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this only because the store in my area was out of Internal Blu-Ray burners. I needed to replace my burner quickly. First of all, in order to use the included software to burn Blu-Ray Discs, you need to pay for the upgrade. Luckily, I already had Blu-Ray software from my previous drive. The computer was AMD three-core CPU with USB 3.0 and 8GB RAM, running Windows 7 Home. I wasted 1 Blu-Ray disc because it would error out while burning. Then I thought it was the software I was using, so I installed the included software, updated the firmware and tried again - no Blu-Ray supported software inclluded. Ok. I tried regular DL discs and DVD-R discs - still getting errors when burning. Support was no help. So, move the drive to another system using the Intel Core i7 - 6 core CPU with USB 3.0, Windows 7 Pro - same problem. I returned it today.

Very Average Drive for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The drive works, and that is a plus. You will have to manually download and update the firmware; this does not happen automatically. The Cyberlink Bloatware is not needed, and to get around it you will have to filter through the disc included to get the drive started. Secondly, the drive causes shut down issues with windows and freezing (spinning pinwheel) on MacBook. Finally the drive itself! It works well with Blu-Ray, as I am using it to back up my media, but it suffers severely when reading and transferring DVDs... which is odd. Transfer rates on DVDs can be as low as 1.7 mbs and it goes nowhere on USB 3.0?

very well build but.....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit looks very well and was built with good materials, it looks strong. I have no issues in terms of compatibility, I am using it on windows 8. My only complaint is that the version of the software included won't create and burn Blu ray discs, if you want to do this, you will need to buy the full version of it. You can play DVD and Blu ray discs.

Workable unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just wanted a unit to share between a mac and pc that I could use primarily to RIP DVDs and Blu Ray media. You need a fast CPU to work with the blu ray side of thing. On the Mac side I wanted a portable unit that did USB 3, install software from and optical source and could play blu ray. Apple's Portable DVD burner is $75 so for a few dollars more I got blu ray on PC and Mac.

WORTHLESS JUNK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After purchasing 2 HP SPECTRE lap tops ( the first one kept crashing so it went back ) I needed to purchase a DVD player since it does not come with one and BEST BUY said I needed to purchase software to protect it and they handed me software on DVD ( ? ) I went on line ( Muncie Indiana Best Buy where I live had none and they knew nothing about them anyway ). I was pressed for time so I ended up having to drive to Indianapolis area to purchase the thing. I purchased the LG 14x BLU-RAY/DVD WRITER --- SUPER MULTI BLU BE14 After getting it I immediately had to spend additional money on line to make it work as it already needed updated software- It cost me $100 for the player -- $80 for the UPDATED software and it worked for 1 day then stopped working. BESTBUYS -- GEEKSQUAD ( MUNCIE INDIANA ) said -- WINDOWS 10 does not support it and tried to sell me additional software for an extra $100- TO ME -- since it cost me a lot of money and does not work -- I CALL THIS ALL WORTHLESS -- DO NOT BUY IT.

Cheap and broken
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Slow bloatware and LOTS OF noise. Bought this in April 2015, broken by November 2015. Used about a dozen times, now the PC can't communicate with the LG. Kept the box but lost the receipt so the warranty is useless. What a letdown. I had bought this product with the intention of not having to buy another for several years. Now I'll need to buy another. Going to get the least expensive one this time. BTW I noted several manufacturer refurbished units on eBay, a sign that I am not alone. DON'T BUY THIS.

Speedy disc reader, cords are too short
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Blu-ray drive performs well. No complains or criticism about its playback or ripping capacities which are fast and error-free. The power and USB cords are too short given that this is an external device and should have the flexibility to be placed away a distance away from the computer.

Even compatible with Mac
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It doesn't advertise Mac compatible, but it is. Just plug and play on Macbook Pro Retina. Very powerful due to it being powered by AC adapter, nice design as well!

Trash product is trash
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this today with the hope of being able to watch some movies on my laptop while my wife watched tv. For $140 I didn't think I'd really have any issues. Turns out, after spending that kind of money on a drive that sounds like a cd-rom from 1995 I still can't use it without spending an additional $40 on the bloatware they included with it. It's extremely loud for a product that boasts about how quiet it is and it scratched the first blu-ray that I put in it. I'd give this thing 0 stars if I could. Will be returning it tomorrow for a refund.

Beware of Disc Availability (as of 02/19/2014)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased two of these drives (one as a backup) primarily for archival of photographs and video. I value the reported fast writing times, support for large volume blu-ray discs and archival quality M-Discs; however, as of 02/19/2014, media availability might be an issue. I have been unable to find media for sale that are even close to supporting the drive's reported capabilities. At the time of this review, 100 GB blu-ray discs are available from a few online retailers (typically branded for Japanese market). I have been unable to find any 4-layer 128GB BD-R XL for sale. My local Best Buy didn't have any discs larger than 25 GB. Despite the drive's reported 14x/12x write speed for BD-R(SL/DL), in my searches, I have been unable to find blu-ray media vendors that report supported write speeds of anything faster than 6x. Perhaps most troubling is that M-Discs appear to be available only as DVDs at this time. While LG's marketing may accurately reflect the technical specifications of the drive, I find the marketing to be misleading since it purports to support media that doesn't yet appear to be on the market.

Not a great choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this advertised as a 16x unit, but when viewed and unboxed it states clearly 14x. We never could get this drive to function correctly with any of the following: Windows 8, Nero, or Freemake. The software package that comes with is just the typical Cyberlink throw away junk, that is mainly a DVD software suite anyway. It would have been nice to have a BR Suite?

Would not work in my Asus laptop USB 3.0 ports
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was unable to get this drive to operate on my Asus K55N USB 3.0 ports. It would keep disappearing and re-appearing in my device list when plugged into one of these ports. It did work on the USB 2.0 port but that's not why I got it. I have a USB 3.0 hard drive that works wonderfully in USB 3.0 mode so I know the ports operate. I thought it may be defective or perhaps the cable was bad so I exchanged it for another at Best Buy. Same problems with the new one. I tried firmware, BIOS, and driver updates all to no avail. I finally returned the unit to Best Buy. I must say they were very understanding and the exchange and subsequent return were hassle free experiences. I really wanted this drive to work but it just would not cooperate.

Worked for 1 week
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It worked for 1 week. After that it did not recognize any disc I put in, including discs it previous was able to read. PC still recognized device and I was even able to upgrade the firmware, so it is not an issue with the PC to drive connection.

Did not work with my compter
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't want to sell this product short but it just did not work or was not compatible with my compter (IBuyPower Computer I bought from Best Buy); No worries though because I was able to return it at my local best buy for full amount in cash! Just beware that it may not work with your CPU setup. Thanks and happy shopping!! Best Buy still Rocks!!

Worthless
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What is the point of spending $150 on a Blu-ray drive that won't actually play any Blu-ray discs. This was one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I am taking it back to Best Buy today.
