Does not perform as expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dishes do not dry even on hottest settings. Plus dishes do not seem to get clean. I was disappointed when troubleshooting suggestions said I needed to run sink full of hot water before starting load - the dishwasher should do the work & not me! My 7 year old GE model out cleaned this LG model

Do not recommend-doesn't clean
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the worst dishwasher I have ever owned. We purchased new stainless appliances and this is the only one I hate. My dishes don't get clean. Even our dinner guests have commented when they have been over for dinner and have seen or helped me unload the dishwasher. I always rinse my dishes well before placing them in the dishwasher and there have been numerous times I have had to hand wash them after using the dishwasher. I plan to take this out eventually and use my black Maytag even though it will not match my new house and appliances. It's that bad.

Pretty good BUT 2 annoying quirks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first I really loved this LG product. We've owned several appliances over the years and knew we wanted to stay within this brand. Pros - it's super quiet, it cleans really well, and plays a little jingle when it is done washing the dishes. CONS - First issue - In a nutshell, the soap container is pretty much useless. If you buy the pods, it is very difficult to fit the pod in the soap container and close the door. If you use the powders, and you happen to over flow the container, the soap door will not shut and lock into place. you have to wipe off the additional soap before you can close it. The door itself is difficult to close (even when empty). This drives me nuts EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Second issue - the child lock works great and locks every single button EXCEPT the power button. Yes even with the child lock on, you can still turn off the power. And it does a jingle when you turn it off so my 13 month old is like a moth to a flame and repeatedly turns the dishwasher off when it is going and I'm out of the room. To make matters worse, when it is turned off via the button, you cannot start the cycle from the last place it was. you have to restart the dishwasher from the very beginning. I wouldn't buy this same model again for those two reasons. But if that doesn't bother you, then it is great dishwasher!

Hoped to get more than 4 years out of it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The problem with reviews when buying something new is no long track record yet. We were impressed with the quiet operation, but to get the dishes clean you have to be careful about the way it's loaded. We ended up using the power scrub cycle for everything. After just 4 years, the soap dispense door has been acting up, then this weekend it stopped with a code FE, Fill Error. Repair estimates are at about $225, or more depending on whether it's the fill valve or mother board. That's about half of what we paid for it in 2013. We'll be studying more reviews and buying another brand, probably Miele, KitchenAid or Bosch this time.

Don't know how good it operates
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second LG thathasbeen delivered to my house within 3 weeks. Both deliveries either has been installed improperly or I have been delivered 2 damaged machines. I had an LG dishwasher that lasted 9 years and it was wonderful, I can only hope once this one works I'll be just as happy.

Beyond My Expectations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Clean, Clean, Clean, what a machine!!! I bought this before there were reviews on it. I am amazed on how much better it works than my top of the line 7 year old model. Technology is wonderful. Dishes are super clean, machine is extremely quiet. I was apprehensive about buying it after I spoke with the guy at Sears. He basically said they were junk, however we have an LG, microwave/exhaust fan, front load washer and 2 lg tv's. The history of the products speak louder than peoples comments. Again, I am very happy about the machine and will and do recommend it....Note...the first couple of washes activated the asphalt / tar paper insulation on the unit and there was an odor, not to strong, but noticeable. We wash dishes every day, sometimes more than once, so the smell did not last long. Oh yah, the convection drying works super fast., glass and metal are dry, plastic still has drips. We always air dried our dishes which took up to 2 hours, now they are dry in about 20 minutes. I am really happy with the machine. We have had it running now for a month and expect a long relationship with it!

Nice looking and great overall performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this after lots of research. I have outlined my pro's and cons below: Pros: Looks excellent, very large capacity, very quiet, nice selection of cycles, little touches of blue looks nice, food processor is a plus, and overall quality of construction seems high. Cons: No light or indicator telling you when a cycle has finished and the dishes are clean. If my wife does a cycle and I come home to a full load of dishes I can't tell if she did them or now without pulling out some dishes. The drying could be better, but overall it is ok for not having a heating element. You could do an extra dry cycle, but that makes the full cycle time over 2.5 hours which is pretty excessive. Also, the racks are a little strange. You can adjust them in many different ways, but my old Kenmore that you couldn't adjust at all seemed to fit all dishes perfectly no matter how you put them in. Will continue to mess with it and hopefully find the sweet spot. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and have since ordered an LG range and microwave to complete my kitchen upgrade. The little touches of blue and other items make this and other LG appliances seem upscale.

So Quiet and looks great in my kitchen!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 12 years with the loudest dishwasher on earth I finally ordered the LG LDS5540ST - I waited for the best deal and got $200 off! I got free delivery but was told not to have the 3 party company install my dishwasher since Best Buy could not even depend on them to show up to install in my area. This left me to basically trick my husband in to helping me with this project. My dishwasher was delivered at 2om (right on time!) and we had it installed by 3:45pm. We did have to make some modifications to our cabinet and how the electric wires were run but that was due to the fact of how our old dishwasher was installed. We did manage to get the new LG installed after a short while without my husband killing me for even ordering it! After installing the dishwasher I did the initial test run with power and water and my husband thought something was wrong because he could not hear anything. The machine was working just fine and I had to explain to him that now he can finally watch TV without cranking the cound up! He was very impressed and when I loaded the dishwasher the same day and really ran the whole cycle he still could not believe that it was working. I have already run 3 loads in 6 days and everything comes out very clean. I have tested the delay cycle (which my old dishwasher did not have), raised and lowered the racks, adjusted the prongs, reconfigured the silverware basket and could not be more pleased to find I can adjust the dishwash to fit my needs and every thing comes out looking perfect! This was not easy to install but if you have some general knowledge (my husband is an electrician) it can be a small project that two of you can accomplish together. I love this dishwahser - It looks great in my kitchen and I would highly recommed this purchase!

LG is a Quiet Performer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased the LG 5540ST on July 19, 2014. The price at that time was $584.00. After first confirming the unit would be ready for pickup the next day I received a call that said not until the next week. Minor glitch but we were without a dishwasher for that time. After installation by us which was fairly easy we ran the LG and were quite pleased at how quiet it was. The normal cycle runs for 2 hours + but the dishes were clean; the unit in our opinion is very clean and modern looking. Usually do not purchase the Protection Plan but we did for this. $119 for 3 years only because of some of the horror stories I read about dishwashers quitting before their time. The LG is a vast improvement over the 7 year old Whirlpool we had previously.

Very good dishwasher
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a 10 year old KitchenAid that came with the house I bought 2.5 years ago. The KitchenAid worked well but the top rack broke off the hinges and considering the repairs needing to be done, I thought it be best to just buy a new one. My budget was between $500-600 and I found that this LG had really good reviews despite being on the lower end of the price spectrum among all the LG's. What first attracted me was the price because it was on sale during President's Day for $599. Then the overall look and feel of it was a lot nicer than the other brands that I looked at too. The salesperson also said that this was a really good value. ***BEWARE*** that the price isn't just the price. They will tell you that you need a dishwasher starter kit ($30) to install a power cable and drainage hose and also pay $140 to get the thing installed.(I then understood why they marked the dishwasher down $200). You will need the kit if you've never had a dishwasher before, but if you're replacing I suggest using your existing lines. But the inner "Tim Allen" came over me and I decided to try and install the dishwasher myself. Upon receiving the dishwasher from the delivery guys. ***BEWARE *** Best Buy will only haul away your old dishwasher if it's already uninstalled or if you ordered the installation, but it not, you can call them later and they'll pick it up for you once it's uninstalled. I along with some help from my brother uninstalled the old one and installed this LG after watching directions on YouTube. It was really easy actually and I would recommend anyone who is "DIY Deficient" to try to take this on because I feel like more of a man now haha! Not to mention I now know how to install a dishwasher. I used the existing lines from the previous dishwasher and didn't even need the kit so I returned it. Now as far as the actual dishwasher itself. It works great! I can't recommend anymore how much that rinse agent really aids in removing the water spots from the dishes. Also, in my previous dishwasher after the load was completed, it really looked wet inside with droplets of water everywhere. With this dishwasher, when the load was done, I opened the door and it was completely dry as if the dishwasher had never been operated before...INCREDIBLE! It is quiet but not any quieter than the 10 year old KitchenAid that it replaced so no big deal for me. So far so good, but I've only had this dishwasher for a few days. If I come across any technical issues or anything new, I'll update my review. I hope this helps.

Great Dishwasher!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this dishwasher!! So quiet, I forget it's on. Even gets peanut butter off, I've never had a dishwasher do that without soaking & scrubbing. Great capacity, love that you can change the tines for bigger or smaller items.

Quiet & Efficient
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this dishwasher in February 2013 and have been extremely pleased with it's overall performance. This product does everything the manufacturer states it will do in it's description, including being very quiet. The only negative comment I have to make is, unfortunately, the buying process through Best Buy's website was very difficult and the customer service they provided was substandard. However, I have never had any problems purchasing from Best Buy in the past and the superior performance of this dishwasher makes up for the dissatisfying purchasing experience. The bottom line is, I highly recommend this product.
