Thin tinny sound, subwoofer doesn't always turn on
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this "free"for purchasing an OLED TV...if I had paid cash for it, I would be returning it. That said, I have 2 other TV's with sound bars set up in my home, both are MUCH better. This bar is quite thin and tinny sounding, and the sub woofer doesn't turn on or activate at lower volumes, Quite dissapointing when paired with an astounding looking OLED television...now I know why it was given away for "free" with purchase. No such thing as a free lunch.

Movie sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not totally crazy about this “thing”. The sound is almost like being in a barrel. Music sound is great - talking not so much.

This is a sound bar? No way.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like home theater systems. I want the immersive sound. My wife wants less fuss and smaller footprint. I recently disconnected the ol' receiver and all those speakers and big sub and installed the sleek LG SJ8 just to see if it would compete at all. We have a compromise! Before the praise, let me point out one con I hope to see solved in a software update--that blasted bright LED status light smack in the middle of the beautiful, minimalist, unobtrusive sound bar. Other than that, I have few complaints. No, I can't hear things behind me, but the sound this thing puts out in cinema mode is rich and refined, and immersive enough. I noticed one reviewer remarked there is no way to regulate sudden louder items like commercials--there is a setting for that in the app, look harder. The sub gives me the bass I want with night mode to quell it when others in the home are enjoying quiet time, and the bar itself really serves up nicely defined mids and highs. The app is just okay, I was able to find the finer settings I needed once I got past the "music" portion (LG--Separate that out please!) Set up is straighforward and logical, build quality is excellent for the price point--a brushed black metal look on top is a nice touch. The remote is functional. Bluetooth was simple to set up from other devices (my iphone), and music sounds amazing. Fills our open living room with really good sound, This one is a keeper.

Great sound, great flexibility
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a person who has enjoyed 7.1 and 7.2 surround in his home for a couple of decades, I was very skeptical when it came to the LG SJ8 Sound Bar. Would it be enough in the sound and volume department? What flexibility does it offer? The packaging for the SJ8 was pretty basic and straight forward. It is a rather large box (the bar itself is over 4 feet long), and its packaging is very straightforward. Sound bar, subwoofer, power cables, mounting brackets, stands, and remote with batteries. Setup is very simple. The installation guide is only about 3 pages long and is very focused and to the point. The sound bar itself is very well made. It has the weight of something substantial, but not heavy. The build quality is very solid and tight, and the connections and buttons are nicely arranged on the rear of the device. The subwoofer is very well built also. It has solid construction, and weighs about as expected. Once connected, I powered up the sound bar and was greeted by a very short wait – 3-5 seconds. There is a nice, clear display in the middle of the sound bar, indicating current state and operation of the device. It didn’t take any configuring to play sound through the device using a wired connection. It easily detected which connection is active and began playing the sound. Nice and easy. Anyone could set this thing up for simple TV audio. The included remote allows you to set sound EQ, sound mode, volume, input, etc. So, how does it sound. It’s actually fantastic. I was very surprised by the clarity, and EQ balance I experienced playing the TV through the SJ8. It was very easy to make slight adjustments to achieve optimum sound, and the clarity was outstanding. My only concern was volume. Could this thing get swallowed by a larger room? It does rate at 300 watts, but I did have concerns about room size. I don’t know if this handles the open family room floor plan, but it has decent volume for the average room size. There is also the LG Music Flow Player. This is one of the better features of this device. It allows you to stream music to the SJ8 from multiple sources over your network. But that’s not all… You can add LG connect speakers to your home network to build an incredibly flexible sound system for your home. Streaming sound was excellent by the way. Overall, the LG SJ8 Sound Bar is really a great buy. It sounds excellent and is very functional and flexible. Great option for someone who may want to expand their system in the future.

Clear sound no base
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this soundbar with high hopes for great sound. I was disappointed to find that 300 watts of power is not enough.

As Equally Amazing As It Is Powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG 4.1 CH Hi-Res Sound bar is the perfect compliment for my 4K television. I was immediately blown away by the immersive sound quality that filled the room while watching movies and playing games. Setup: The LG 4.1 Channel Hi-Res Sound Bar System is extremely easy to setup. It takes only minutes to unbox the components, connect the power and before you know it, you're submerged in a world of sound like never before. One of the best features of the unit (from a connection perspective) is the wireless subwoofer. Simply plug in the sound bar and the subwoofer automatically synchronizes with it. No need to run wires or do manual configuration. The controls are simple and using the system is very intuitive. You can quickly adjust the sound tone and navigate the functions from the remote. Features: This unit is very feature-rich. There are several connection options packed into the slim unit. Bluetooth - Pairing is very easy. Simply change the to bluetooth and connect your compatible device. Wi-Fi - Connect to your wireless network to take advantage of streaming options using the sound bar. Very easy to setup. Ethernet - This one surprised me, but I'm glad it's there. I prefer to use ethernet for peripheral devices to reduce the amount of devices on the wireless network. So, for me this was a big plus. Optical - Using the supplied optical cable, you can connect to your television and enhance the sound performance of you favorite shows/games/movies. HDMI - Delivers the best in sound performance. You can connect your media source (PS4/Xbox/Blu Ray player) to the LG sound bar and then connect the sound bar to the TV to relay the video to the screen in full 4K quality while the sound bar handles the audio. Sound Performance: This unit delivers amazing sound. You can adjust the volume to high settings without clipping or distortion. The low tones are crisp and delivered with precision as explosions and crashes happen in the movies. While, mid range and high tones are delivered in a way that make you feel like you are in the scene. I am very happy with the LG 4.1 Ch Hi Res sound bar.

Decent but not Great Soundbar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbar looks good and sound good as well. But is it $450-$600 good? Um not even close. I would put this in the $200-$300 range for the sound quality. I have other brands from competitors that blow this out of the water. I will talk about what I like and don't and provide honest feedback you want. -=LIKE=- +Aesthetics - this is simply beautiful and well built. It is slim only about 1.5" high and looks modern and minimalistic. It is wide enough fit a 50" TV maybe. I have a 65" LG and it is about 4-5 inches short on both sides. +Surround effect - the sound fills the room very nicely. It isn't like a true surround experience, but mimics it well. The sound in bass leaves a lot to be desired for this price point, but for the average Joe they will like it. +Easy Setup - this was a breeze to do. Plug and play all the way. +Wall Mountable - out of the box you can wall mount this. It comes with wall brackets that make your install look professional. +High Resolution Audio - supports 192kHz/24 bit PCM audio file formats for clear, detailed sound. +Chromecast Built-In - Need I say more about this? Most major music streaming apps are builtin to the soundbar. +Auto Volume - It seems to balance the loud commercials with the program you are watching really well. +Night Mode - This reduces the bass so you don't wake everyone up :) -=DON'T=- -Bass - I found the bass to be lacking. It has a bad time with really low frequencies but mids and higher frequencies sound great. -Display Light Stays on - the display that show what input you are on stays lit and there is no option to turn it off or even dim it. Annoying at night when watching a movie. There is also a bright red light that stays on that lets you know it is powered off... just another annoying feature for you. -Remote - I found the remote really simple with is a good thing for most but not may options. The remote feels like a toy as far as build quality and design is poor. -Sound lag - The time it takes for this to receive sound after changing inputs or powering on is ridiculous. It can take anywhere from 5-10 secs some times. It even has problems sometimes where it does not receive signal and you have to turn it off then back on again. -Not Powerful as I Expected - I expected powerful clean sound from this. Volume is sometimes low depending on what you are watching -=Verdict=- If you can buy this on sale somewhere between $200-$300 buy it. Otherwise, I cannot justify paying this much for the sound it produces.

Slim design with a punch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound bar it self is only 1.5 inches high. Comes with wall brackets which I used. Giving you a nice clean install. One thing I would like to note is that you need to have a TV with an HDMI "ARC" input or an Optical Digital input. One of my older flatscreen's didn't have either, So it didn't work out. But most newer TV's will have one or the other. No big deal off to the next bedroom I go. And wow the sound you get from this sound bar and subwoofer is a night and day difference over the TV itself. Please don't take this wrong, This sound bar will not replace my receiver and 10inch floor speakers with surround sound in my front room. But at a very small fraction of the cost and taking up a lot less room. You get a great sounding system here. The set up was very easy, Pretty much just plug-and-play. Download an easy to use app on your smart phone to connect to the sound bar and set up Wi-Fi and BAM your done. I'm very pleased with the sound quality and the quality of the sound bar it self also. You get enough bass you can feel it but it's not over powering. For dance party night it could be a little louder, But for movies and tv it's great.

Meh...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I gotta be honest: this sound bar really isn't all that great, ESPECIALLY for the price. I've got it paired with an LG C7P OLED TV, and there is a slight but noticeable lag in the synchronization. There is a feature that lets you delay the audio further, but not speed it up (which is the real problem that needs fixing). The high-end is practically non-existant; it doesn't even acknowledge the slight beeps made when scrolling through options on my Apple TV. The bass is intense, though the subwoofer lacks the punch that adds to great home theater. It exists to just sorta amplify the bass. Overall, it all feels rather flat. I find myself using the TV speakers more than half the time, and the speakers on LG's OLED's are horrible. The SJ8 works kinda well for intense action movies and some video games, but that's it. Reason I gave it three stars is because it came free with my TV, and for that price it's certainly adequate.

Great Sound Quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great sound bar. The wireless subwoofer allows it to work in most size rooms regardless of tv placement. The sound bar itself is a little on the long side though. Make sure you have space for it on your tv stand first! Its sleek design and low profile prevents it from being an eyesore like some other bulkier sound bars too.
