I set the soundbar up in my bedroom connected to my Samsung tv. Setting up the soundbar was easy using an HDMI cable. The slim profile makes the unit look great sitting on the dresser and the wireless sub is convenient as you have more options for placement. Overall the sound is good. Definitely better than the tv output alone. The controls take some figuring out (download the manual from LG’s site), but once configured the way you want, you are good to go. Turns on and off with the tv.

I never really thought I NEEDED a sound bar until I actually got this one. Significant sound improvement from the tv speakers. The subwoofer could be better but this doesn't take away from the overall performance of this sound bar. No compatibility issues with my Sony tv. My favorite feature is the ability to stream music from my phone via Bluetooth and the sound is amazing. I'm sure there may be better options out there for those that are more discriminating but it's absolutely a great option for anyone that just wants to boost their home sound system in a simple and affordable way with great sound.

I was excited to try this soundbar and kinda ended up a little disappointed. The things I like are that it looks nice and the sub woofer is wireless. Also, Setting up the soundbar was really simple, I connected mine to my TV via HDMI and the wireless sub connected instantly without any issue. After, watching mostly movies and the news the past few days, I can say that I like the sound and think its a pretty good. Of the 5 built in sound settings, the Cinema sound setting is the best. The reason I was disappointed was because the HDMI pass-thru only works when the soundbar is turned on. Also, the soundbar doesn't automatically turn on/off when the TV is powered on/off. You have to use the soundbars remote control to manually turn it on and off.

The LG SJ8 Hi Res Sound Bar was a breeze to setup. Simply plugged in the HDMI cable from the cable box to the sound bar, another HDMI from the sound bar to my Samsung TV. That was it. The TV immediately recognized it and I began to experience the nice sound from the SJ8. The sound has excellent clarity throughout a wide spectrum of sound. I would say it excels in highs and mid-range sounds and performs decent as far as bass goes. The separate active 6" subwoofer nicely compliments the soundbar, but I wish it had a little more power behind it. Still, it's plenty to fill a room and provide an immersive experience--just not one that will make you feel the bass or rattle the walls. Sometimes I like that, but the bass can also overwhelm some scenes. The LG SJ8 won't ever do that. I found it did a pretty good job of balancing when the bass needed to come out and when it was unnecessary. The design of the SJ8 is really fantastic. It is extraordinarily thin and even includes an 8 character LCD display so you always know what setting you are changing. All of the ports provide easy access for the cables so whether you are mounting it or letting it rest on a stand like me, it lies flat and looks nice. The subwoofer isn't very large (6.73" x 12.6" x 9.92") so it can be discreetly placed around your room. The sub design isn't an eye sore either so it's not something that'll stick out if you can't place it somewhere out of sight. In conclusion, I really enjoyed the LG SJ8 for its ease of setup, multi-function (HDMI, Optical, Wi-fi, and Bluetooth), and nice sound. I can tell you that I've tried 3 other soundbars all priced around $600 and only one that is a premium brand sold in the Best Buy Magnolia store performs better than this one. I deducted one star simply because I would've liked a little more bass from the sub, but like I said, it does a pretty decent job and I probably like more bass than most. Pros: -Ease of setup -Good sound range and clarity -Price -Design/Appearance Cons: -Slightly lacking in bass (if you like a ton of bass that can shake walls)

    Great Sound, Bad App

All my issues with this bar can be fixed by fixing the app. The initial config from a LG phone, connecting a LG sound bar to a LG TV should be seamless. IT WAS NOT! The instructions were bad, a few words of direction would have gone a long way. Even highlighting the name of the app would have been helpful. The app will configure everything for you, but not let you know that it is configured. The sound will still not work. You need to jump over to the TV remote and the bar remote to finish the config...but don't expect to find that in the Picstructions. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a few words would clarify the picture. Anyhow, the app actually had everything configured, but I needed to go thru the LG TV menu and do a test of the sound before it worked. DO NOT USE THE APP TO CHANGE CONFIG, I could not get the sound working again without Testing the Sound in the TV Menu again. There are plenty of controls to make things sound how you want them to sound. But use the remote to do it. The bar sounds fantastic. LG Makes great hardware. I just wish their software was even close to average.

    solid sound quality, slim design

good: -design - super slim and light. nice styling. physical buttons on the back (which will probably never get any use). -sound quality - good (but not great) once tuned a bit. out of the box, the sub sounded boomy and undefined. once i bumped the treble up and the bass down a few notches, it sounded much more cohesive and tight. -wireless sub - easy placement in a variety of areas, just need access to an outlet. the compact design is nice, but volume-wise won't be able to fill larger rooms. -intuitive mobile app (Music Flow) bad: -sub just a bit on the muddy side, but not overly bad. -overall volume may not fill larger rooms -single HDMI input, which means no input for additional playback devices or game consoles. a workaround for this is to connect those devices directly to your TV, then use optical out to the soundbar. -no decoding for TrueHD or Master audio tracks overall: solid soundbar from LG. perhaps not as clean and accurate sounding as some others in this price range, but certainly not bad either.

My husband and I are looking into getting an LG tv. So we opted to receive the LG soudbar so they were compatable. We currently have a vizio. The tv and SB do work together and sound amazing! But, i cant program any remotes (directv, universal) to control the soundbar. This to me is annoying because i prefer to only have to use 1 remote.

Basic Sound and Annoying LED light

I wanted to like this sound bar, based on looks, the reviews it had, and of course the LG brand which is known for having good products. I would think with the 300 Watts capability it would be louder, but it isn't. You really have to mess with the bass (and the sub woofer bass) to get some decent bass for music and cinema. I have a Sony 4k 55' inch TV (2015 Model). I didn't use the HDMI option to connect, i used the optical cable. I later change the settings on my TV to "sound system" - My TV controller controls the volume on the sound bar, but it says on my tv, "volume is fixed" every time i increase volume, so if i go from 10 at volume to 30, the volume is fixed" sign will show up 20x. So i'll have to use the sound bar controller for volume now. This sound bar can be used for Bluetooth streaming as well. I sync up my cellphone (galaxy s7), it worked well for a couple of songs then it would kick me out. It would do this very often. I later downloaded the "music flow" app from LG (LG manual states it works well with app) thinking it would be the better option for streaming music from my phone to the sound bar and guess what? It did the same thing. Kicked me out after a couple of songs, it was really annoying. I couldn't listen to my playlist without reconnecting every 10 mins. After, it kicks me out it would go back to "optical" mode on the sound bar. Even after i turn off the sound bar, i would wake up to the "optical" mode still on. As others reviewers of this product, i would say that the LED light is really annoying. It's always on. I tried to remove it with the "music flow" app under settings but it didn't work. The sound bar itself is very light, doesn't weight much at all. The sub woofer itself its medium sized, like the size of a shoes box I didn't feel a lot of bass coming from the sub woofer. It's disappointing that this sound bar sounds so basic but looks very stylish and modern. I just can't get around the Bluetooth disconnecting and the basic sound. The nice thing is that it came with a sound bar wall mount (i bought one from amazon thinking i would need it). I wouldn't recommend.

I wanted to love this low profile soundbar but it is lacking what others offer in the same price. Samsung and Klipsch offer better sounding subs and a better overall sound. I own a Samsung but if I ownwd a LG oled then it might make more sense since it can mount to the tv for a seamless experience. I also cannot move the sub very far from the soundbar which is not ideal.

Good for music, lousy for dialogue

I'm pretty disappointed with this sound bar. Dialogue is muffled. I have to crank the volume to understand what people are saying. I am using the supplied optical cable direct to a LG Oled tv and have tried every combination of “sound effect” and adjustment of treble, bass and sub to no avail. I'd love to return this and get a receiver and proper speakers but I am past my return date.
