We live in the era of disposable major appliances

With how often we travel, it's seen less than three years of regular use for a family of four. It is now broken. It either powers on but won't start a cycle; starts the cycle and then just sort of stalls while gently shuffling before the first spin cycle; or, if we're really lucky, will get most of the way through a load before breaking into the gentle shuffle before a spin cycle. The "Smart Diagnosis" has yielded nothing; there is no error code. It just sort of stares at us, not washing, but also not realizing it is a broken disaster of a washer. Very sad. Our local appliance people won't touch top loaders; we have replaced parts ourselves; we have taken the whole thing apart and cleaned it; we have done every sort of possible trouble-shooting option on LG's website, through LG's chat service (which very helpfully suggested I might try pushing the start button harder/turning it on and off again!), and through the internet at large. We suspect it's a motherboard failure, which will likely mean a huge repair bill (should we get someone to come out) or just a new washer. This is really unacceptable. The waste of money, the waste of time, the waste of materials...all of it is gross. I don't know what we consumers can do about it (probably nothing) but it's awful to live in the era where major appliances can be expected to fail within five years and then just are disposed of. Please stop selling us expensive garbage.

Repairman told me that the top loading LGs are more difficult to diagnose than the front loaders. Also, that the main board may have taken out other components, but we won't know that until we install a new main board because IT supplies power to the other components! It was a good washer while it lasted, but this is unacceptable. Repairman also said to just buy the least expensive washer you could from now on, as they are ALL susceptable to any kind of power glitch that can take out these delicate components.

Pretty good except when things go wrong.

The washhing machine has quit working randomly and thrown various error codes. Worst of all is occasionally our clothes start getting these opaque clear to white flakes all over them. We spend many cycles trying to clean the machine and vacuum out. Never had this problem with our old kenmores that lasted 20 years. Im sure its our fault somehow but not good.

Opposite of high efficiency

I use liquid detergent and fabric softener for high efficiency washers. I first used the normal wash cycle but clothes came out with streaks of detergent. I have been using less and less detergent to where I hardly use any, and still get the streaks. I started using the deep wash, hoping that having more water would help, but same result. So I have to run a deep wash and extra rinse for each load- I get less streaks but they are still there. This washer is supposed to be high efficiency, but I'm using more water and electricity than I did with my old traditional washer, and clothes are coming out less clean. Another problem is that the fabric softener runs out of the dispenser into the washer unless I push it down each time before I wash. I wish I had stuck with the traditional type of washer.

These products are formulated to create fewer suds which is important since so much less water is used. More is not better when there is less water in the mix. Most loads only require one to two teaspoons of HE liquid laundry detergent or one single-dose pack. If you do not use the automatic detergent dispensers, place the detergent in the bottom of the drum BEFORE you add your dirty clothes. All single dose laundry packs must be placed in the bottom of the washer - never the dispenser. This will give the detergent the longest amount of time in the water to help get your clothes clean. When you load a HE top load washer, do not pile the clothes in the center. Evenly distribute the dirty clothes around the edges of the wash plate. This will help balance the load more quickly and speed the wash cycle. Load clothes loosely, and do not load clothes over the maximum guideline on the tub. Horrible Washer!

I run the "tub clean" setting and it still has a bad odor in addition to having residue adhere to the drum. I would not recommend this washer!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The washer worked quite well for a little over 2 years and then it started to stop at the 24 min and again at the 19 min with an ie code I'd rearrange the clothes and somethimes it would finish the wash and rinse and other times I'd have to repeat the process, each fail showed the IE code we had repair men out twice changed the filters and the mother board and the problem continued finally we gave up and purchased a new machine I would not recommend this washer to anyone

Noisy washer

They tell me nothing is wrong with it as it bangs around and suggested that we are not washing correctly. Do not buy this machine if you want something even a little quiet. The reviews were great on Best Buy but these young men tell me the vibration and noise is normal. They probably don’t do their own laundry. Bad machine!

It impressesed with wash cycle

When it is done, it has completely twisted and watered all the clothes up beyond belief, and we spent 10 minutes trying to get them unwrinkled and unknotted. Very disappointed in this washer.

The intake valve fails and the repair would cost $500 and takes 10 days to get parts. Original purchase was $720. Ridiculous and wasteful.
