Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent picture quality and affordable price of the 49" Class (48.5" Diag.) - LED - 1080p - HDTV. Many appreciate how easy it is to set up, making it a great choice for those who want a hassle-free experience. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the limited number of HDMI ports, the stand's design, motion blur, and the 60Hz refresh rate.

I bought this television as it was a great deal. The only issue is that I bought it in March, but I will not be able to pick it up until sometime in June. I thought this was odd in today's world, but it was a great deal, so I figured waiting 3 months for delivery was acceptable. I rated it 3 stars because of the wait time to receive it. I'm sure I will be very satisfied with the television.

I purchased this TV at Best Buy and used it for about a month before finally deciding to return it in favor of a different model (I was lucky to have elite plus status so I had 45 days to decide). I had it setup in a finished basement room and usually watch at night in low light conditions. The PRO's: I liked the silver trim and overall aesthetic; the display had excellent color once properly adjusted in the settings (I used the expert 1 mode). Fairly good uniformity considering the price point. The CON's: Really only one major flow, which was the below average motion blur (even for a 60 Hz display). It was tolerable with full 1080p content, but below that it struggled to keep up. Even moderate motion scenes, such as a person running at a fast pace, would appear to blur severely and for sports you can forget it. I really tried to like this TV and feel I gave it a good shot over a range of different content, including streaming HD (Netflix, Hulu and HBO GO), Blu Ray, standard DVD and a few steaming SD shows. Only Blu Ray content really looked good, all else suffering at least to some degree by the motion blurring. The streaming SD content was particularly bad. For a casual user in a living room setting it's probably a great unit, but it just didn't cut it for me. In case you're wondering, I exchanged for the VIZIO E-Series 50" (model E50-C1). The picture is more to my liking and importantly, the motion is nice and smooth as it should be.

    So Far, So Good

We've only had it for a day, so I can't report on longevity, but so far, I am completely happy with this LG 1080p TV (49LF5500). I was on a budget and I hemmed and hawed between this set, the TCL 48FS3750 and the Vizio E48-C2. I do not regret going with the least expensive option. In our case, forgoing Smart TV features was not a dealbreaker as the computer connected to the TV duplicates much Smart TV functionality. The stuff we use, anyway. I'm afraid I am not much of a manual reader, but it didn't take too long to step through the settings to get the TV configured to my liking. I am using only one HDMI input on the TV. Blu-ray player, Wii, Verizon FiOS set-top box and a Windows computer are all routed through a DENON AV receiver. I found that the "Just Scan" video setting provided the clearest image when using Windows. It's pixel for pixel, so no resampling at 1080p. We use the NETFLIX and HULU Plus Windows 10 apps, and they also work and look fantastic on this set. As for the set itself, it's obviously not state-of-the-art at 1080p with a 60Hz refresh rate and no dynamically adjusting backlighting zones (that I know of), but the display is bright with rich colors and deep blacks. We're using external sound, but I wouldn't expect high-fidelity from ANY flat-panel's tiny internal speakers. The design of the set is elegent with a thin metal-ish trim bezel and two stable "Y" feet. The construction seems sturdy. All in all, I highly recommended the LG 49LF5500! No real cons to speak of at this price point.

The picture quality is very bad out of the box. The TV must be adjusted alot in order to receive an optimal viewing picture and the sound quality is horrible especially if you have vaulted ceilings.

I had this TV for a week and have been very satisfied so far. The picture is crisp, and the sound is clear and definitely loud enough. Other reviewers complained about the sound, but for me there is no problem. I found the TV easy to set up and easy to use. I'm not a techie, so having just 2 HDMI ports is more than enough. I hooked up the cable box, Wii-U, and dvd player, and I'm ready to go. This TV is a wonderful upgrade from my previous 36-inch.

It has some clouding, some light bleed on one side and slightly dark corners on the bottom - But, for the price, I'm fine with it, it's nothing that'll really distract from normal viewing.. I use it in a bedroom for casual viewing. Some motion blur, I don't watch sports, so I can't comment on that aspect, but as far as PS4 gaming, it's not horrible. There's obviously better out there, but again, for the PRICE, it's perfectly acceptable. Input lag is low! Aside from those issues, the picture can be dialed in pretty well, there are a lot of more-advanced picture settings on this you don't get with similarly priced units, so you can get a pretty dang good picture out of this cheap TV. Also, it's really thin & light. The bezel on the front is very thin. Hangs on the wall perfectly since it's so low profile, that was a big plus for the smallish bedroom it's in. Physically, it's a great looking unit. All-in-all, it's worth the low price.

I have always been a Sony fan however when I see a deal for other than main home rooms.....bedroom's and bathrooms I 'am not too concerned. With that being said I own Samsung, Sony, LG, Visio and sharp with a total of 8 Televisions. I can honestly say I prefer my existing LG over my Samsung so when I needed a new TV for my office and saw the reviews and pricing on this TV I had to get it. It has exceeded my expectations by far. Crystal clear picture, easy setup and great sound. My only wish is that the remote control was a little bigger, however not an big issue when using cable box remote. LG is GOOD and LIFE is GOOD!!!!

This is a nice tv. The picture is crisp and bright after a bit of adjusting. One thing that impressed me about this tv was the sound when hooked to the apple tv. For being such a slim tv, the sound is very good. It's way better than the speakers from our 2 year old VIZIO. The only drawback is the location of the imput ports on the back of the tv. We mounted the TV on the wall and the back of the tv imput ports are covered by the mount. It's not the best design but we've worked around it by unscrewing the bottom screws of the mount and pulling it away slightly to plug in the wires. This TV only has two HDMI ports which is really okay for our needs but an additional port would be nice.
