I'd like to provide a detailed review of the washer/dryer set I recently purchased for my upper floor, aiming to eliminate the need for constant trips up and down the stairs to my basement set. Before diving into the specifics, a few key points need to be addressed. To start, it's important to note that this review is entirely unbiased, as I paid for the product in full. There were no incentives or sponsorships from Best Buy or LG, ensuring an honest evaluation. Regarding installation, I strongly recommend considering the $29.99 installation service. The unit weighs a substantial 250lbs, and even with two fully-equipped adults, handling it without professional assistance can be quite challenging. Moving on to the positive aspects, the aesthetics of the set are fantastic. Placing it on my upper floor, where it's visible to anyone passing through, required a sleek design – a requirement that this set fulfills admirably. The user interface is user-friendly, with a simple wheel on the display for mode selection. Adjustments for temperature, spin, and soil level are easily made through button presses next to the display, with clear LED indicators. Importantly, you don't have to rely on the app, as all settings can be configured directly on the washer. For those who prefer using the app, pairing is effortless. The LG ThinQ app guides you through the process, making it as simple as scanning a QR code inside the door. The app provides convenient control, allowing you to monitor progress and make adjustments without physically being near the washer. An unexpected but pleasant feature is the interior light, allowing you to observe your load as it runs. However, it turns off when using the app, assuming you're not present – a minor inconvenience. The capacity is impressive, easily accommodating an entire laundry basket's worth of items. The built-in reservoirs for soap and softener are convenient, letting you set usage preferences for each load. In terms of noise, this washer operates quietly – significantly quieter than my standard basement washer. It's so quiet that you could comfortably sleep next to it during the spin cycle. Now, addressing the washing performance, it matches up well with our standard basement washer. The automatic dispensing system may even result in less soap and softener usage over time. Moving on to drying, it's essential to manage expectations. While it dries clothes to the same level as a standard dryer, it takes longer. The advertised two-hour cycle holds true for smaller loads, but a full laundry basket may take around four hours. For towels or comforters, expect a drying time of 6-7 hours. In conclusion, this set is perfect for upper-level laundry needs, offering the convenience of avoiding trips to the basement. However, for larger items like towels and comforters, the extended drying time is a trade-off. We'll still use our basement set for these items due to its faster drying time and cost efficiency with a gas-powered dryer.

I have no problem giving this unit 5 stars right off the bat. Does this washer dryer combo clean your clothes, yes very well. Most clothes are very dry, sometimes blue jeans are a little damp around the belt line, towels, sheets almost everything else is totally dry. These combo machines require a few minutes a week for maintenance, you must be diligent about cleaning up the lint to get the best efficiency, it's no big deal and only took 10 minutes. The new machine smell was pretty bad the first load or 2 so we started to use the downy pellets, after about 10 loads the smell is all but gone. This unit has been nice most large loads are finished in under 3 hours. We really like this washer dryer combo, frees up space in the laundry room, you don't have to switch clothes to the dryer, all in all it took a little experimenting with different settings to find the sweet spot but we are happy and glad we made the purchase. The dry time may seem long but the energy savings are worth it.

Overall everything works great. We lived in a small house and don’t have any vent for a dryer hose so, we got this beautiful beast. Save on electricity and very quiet compare to the washer we had. It’s very convenient and easy to use. A lot of space for this beast.

I give it a 4/5 simply due to the fact that I’ve barely had it a month, but I absolutely love it! It’s very simple to navigate and the EZ Dispense feature makes things even easier! I saw a lot of comments about the dry time and it almost scared me away, but I’m glad I went ahead and purchased it! The thing is, it’s an appliance that washes AND drys your clothes. It’s not going to dry your clothes as fast as a stand dryer because it’s not as “powerful” and was built to be an energy saving beast, and that it IS! Plus, the app is super cool and reminds you if you forget!

I was trying to decide between this unit or the GE ultrafast 2 in 1 combo. They both have pretty much the same features and are very simular otherwise but the main reason I chose the LG combo was because of it's lint system. It's pretty much self cleaning as far as keeping lint off of the condenser fins. The lint trap itself is very easy to empty as it's done in one motion. The GE seems to collect lent in places that are had to get to and clean compleatly. The LG unit has a 5.0 Cu.Ft. capacity as opposed to the GE's 4.8 Cu. Ft. 0.2 Cu. Ft. does make a difference especially during the drying time (although the GE does have a larger heat pump system). I've had this unit for about a month now and have had no problems so far. I just remeber to do the maintainance just like any other front loading washer. Yes, it does take longer to dry clothes than a traditional dryer it's worth it when I don't have to remember to transfer clothes.

We’ve had this unit for a year and it’s done a great job. However the filters get clogged a lot and there’s a tricky one at the base of the unit that has to be drained first. Now it’s just not drying well at all so I’d make sure you have a secondary dryer available just in case you want to speed up laundry and not have to worry about the drying issues if your unit suffers from overworking too much.

I recently purchased the LG 5.0 Cu. Ft. HE Smart Mega Capacity All-in-One Washer/Dryer WashCombo, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The 5.0 cu. ft. capacity is perfect for my family's laundry needs, allowing us to wash larger loads, including bulky items like comforters, in a single cycle, The ventless design is a game-changer, making installation a breeze since I don't need to worry about venting. The built-in sensors and AI technology automatically adjust the wash and dry settings based on the load. However, I've noticed that there is a significant amount of lint buildup around the machine, which requires frequent cleaning. While the built-in lint filter and auto-cleaning condenser are helpful, they don't seem to catch everything.

This unit is a good option for those low on space or lack the ability to vent a dryer. The energy efficiency is very impressive; an estimated $13 yearly electric cost, if I understand the packaging correctly. I don’t use any smart features, so can’t comment on that. There are 2 downsides. The laundry is not always very dry at the end of the cycle. It’s usually not worth running another dry cycle, but sometimes is required for sheets and blankets. Also, the rubber gasket on the drum is supposed to wiped down with a cloth or paper towel to clear lint/hair between each cycle. I have two cats and this adds a fair amount of routine maintenance to the equation that is fairly irritating.

It’s been extremely helpful to not have to worry about getting the clothes into the dryer rafter washing them. Your are able to choose customized washing cycles to be specific to the clothing and if you don’t want to dry certain clothing and hang them you have that option. The app is incredible and lets me know once the load is done and I can add additional cycles to it while being away from the device no matter how far. Best purchase I’ve ever bought at Best Buy!

We needed a new washer, as our old LG washer was giving up the ghost, it would consistently give the dreaded IE error, and would not finish a load. We’ve never had a dryer, so we’ve always either hung the wash out on the clothes line, or on the drying rack. Clothes and especially towels would end up a bit rough. But on vacation we stayed where they had washers and dryers, and my wife loved how soft things ended up. So when we got home and our washer refused to finish a load, I researched washers, but especially washer/dryer combos. It seemed that there were basically 3 or 4 manufacturers that made them, and they all use a small heat pump to dry the clothes. Reading reviews on numerous sites, it became apparent that there were issues with lint clogging up the condensers, and looking at the actual lint filters on each machine it was easy to see why. Most of them used a slide in, slide out filter that really did not completely block the passage of lint, letting lint get by the filter and clogging up the condenser fins. I saw some owners trying to use a rubber gasket around the filter to block the passage of lint, but with very limited success, and the gasket would quickly be damaged by the plastic filter sliding in and out on it, so it would likely lose its effectiveness. Others would have to call for an expensive service call to come and disassemble the top of the machine to get at the condenser to clean it. And the process of removing the lint from the condenser fins was a difficult job at best, involving taking much of the top of the machine apart to get at the fins, and then running the risk of damaging the fins in the process of removing the lint from them. None of these options are ideal. But the lint filter in the LG washer/dryer combo was different. Instead of a slide in, slide out rack, it has a 2 stage filter on the top of the machine that snaps in and out, with no spaces around it to allow lint to get around the filter, and end up clogging up the condenser fins. And the filter has 2 stages. The main filter that you pop out and clean after each wash, is the first line of defense, and the second stage is easy to keep an eye on, so you can snap that out to clean in case any lint gets by the main filter. Then between the filter and the condenser fins there is a small screen that you can pop out by removing one screw to remove it, then allowing easy access to vacuum off the condenser fins with a soft vacuuming brush to remove any possible lint that might conceivably get by the 2 filters. I think this is a much better lint filter system that the others. And that is why we bought the LG washer/dryer combo. So far it has worked very well. Yes, using it is a bit different than using a typical separate washer and dryer. We bought 6 wool dryer balls that help any dryer do better, including this one. We have found that it typically takes about 2 1/2 hours to do a wash and dry load, depending on what we are washing and drying. At first that sounds like a long time, but consider: that time involves washing and drying. I’m not sure how long washing and drying using 2 separate machines takes, as in the past, we’ve only used a washer, no dryer. But I’d be willing to guess that most separate washing, then switching the laundry to drying probably takes about the same amount of time as this one does, without our having to switch the laundry from one machine to the other. And as I said, using a washer/dryer combo machine is a bit different process than 2 separate stand alone machines. We were careful to read the user manual and follow LG’s guidance for what will work best. We use a small amount of HE liquid laundry detergent. We personally decided to not use the detergent dispenser, it’s just another thing we’d have to periodically clean, so we just place a small capful of detergent in each wash load. And because we have our own septic system, we don’t use bleach, and we don’t use dryer sheets. We use wool dryer balls to help the dryer do a good job. We separate our wash loads by type of laundry load. We clean the lint filter after each load. We leave the door open between loads to let it dry out and help prevent any mildew or musty smells. But that’s about it. It’s not difficult, it’s actually pretty easy, it’s maybe just different than what we might have been used to. But so far, we like it, my wife loves how soft everything comes out.

I am absolutely in love with this washer/dryer. It is big and I am actually doing bigger loads than my previous (old style) one. I am always sure to clean the filter - there is a warning every time you start a cycle, but I already clean it after it finishes each load. I need this baby to last me until they invent one that folds the laundry as well. I have done loads on approximately 2 hours. When I raise the dirty level on the washer it changes the time. Is great. Truly happy with my purchase.

To this point I have been satisfied with LG products, this however I am not. I bought this and used it for a couple months with wash and dry cycles ranging from 2hrs 10 minutes to well over 3 hours and after a couple months the unit wouldn’t release the top lint trap so Geek squad came out with a Milwaukee Screwgun and a 3/8 drill bit. I asked what that was for and then explained the issue and he said he didn’t know anything about these and had a new unit sent out, fast forward another few months and I notice the wash/dry cycle at times taking 5 hours, then comes the error reading so I call Best Buy and they tell me that because I used the warranty already I need to speak to LG. LG tech support is nearly impossible to understand and don’t really listen to what you are telling them, I have a new filter coming since LG is aware of “a design flaw with the filter”. I am now waiting for the new filter so I can replace it and when I asked them what happens if the problem persists I was told “we have a record of the issue” so I clarified by asking “if the filter doesn’t resolve the issue are you going to send out a tech or a new machine” and the answer was “we have a record of the issue”

Hello there, GeorgeS. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your inquiry regarding the wash and dry cycles and filter issue on your LG washer-dryer combo WM6998HBA.

For improved drying performance, please ensure the drain hose descends smoothly without forming a U-trap, lying flat on the floor, and that the faucet supplying water is open. Also, avoid overloading by filling laundry only up to the indicated line inside the washer and unfolding thick items to promote efficient drying. Correct water hose connections are important too, with cold water connected properly for optimal condensation.

I purchased the LG 5.0 cu. ft. All-in-one electric washer/dryer combo in black steel and I really loved this machine at first. I don’t have a large laundry room and there’s only two people in the house so having just one machine seemed to be the ideal solution. There was more maintenance/cleaning with this machine than any washer I've had before but I was okay with that and I didn’t mind the longer drying times so that wasn’t an issue. After 10 months, the machine kept leaking from the door so I went to LG's service website and watched a few of their troubleshooting videos, turned out if there was any hair/lint on the gasket or door it wouldn’t seal so I started wiping the door and gasket with a damp towel before each load (annoying but not a deal breaker) and that fixed the leak. A month later it flooded my laundry room, this time it was gushing pretty good from the dispenser drawer. Again, I went to their site and tried a couple of the troubleshooting videos but it didn’t fix the leak. The dryer had been taking almost three times (over 5hrs) as long to dry at that time and the lint wasn’t making it up into the lint trap at the top so I decided to request a repair since I couldn’t fix the dryer issue and the videos didn’t fix the leak. I spent two hours with a customer service representative asking repeatedly for a service appointment but she kept telling me to troubleshoot and then simply refused to schedule a repair- that was by far the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. I located the LG hotline number, and after sending in videos of the issues he scheduled a service appointment. I live in a rural area so I'm used to appointments taking longer to get however it took over three weeks to finally get someone out here because they couldn't locate a technician, not ideal when you have no working washer. The technician had to come back four separate times to try and repair everything, he ended up replaced hoses, the condenser, the circuitry- pretty much everything except the drum and frame, and that fixed the gushing from the dispenser drawer but it still will not dry cloths. At some point LG had put out a repair to try and fix an issue where lint would build up in the hose going up to the lint trap at top which so after the components were replaced my unit started doing and not only did this not fix the lint issue, it created an excessive amount on condensation in both the dispenser drawer (which leaks out), and the lint trap on top (and because that is enclosed it stays constantly wet). Needless to say, I spoke with the technician quite a bit over the two months it took to try and fix the unit and mine wasn't the first machine to have these issues, he had been working on them quite a bit. I kept asking him about why the lint no longer went up into the lint filter and after asking LG's repair department he was told that the machine was designed for the lint to stay inside the drum and be flushed out the bottom through the drain pump filter (what???) that made no sense and it definitely isn't advertised that way. So, to end, it's over three months later and the machine still doesn't work so I have to replace it because there simply isn't any known way to repair the lint/drying issue. The only salvage to this situation is that the unit was still under the one year warranty and after contacting LG's arbitration department I was refunded most of the purchase price to replace this machine however I find it absolutely unacceptable that this unit is still being sold considering the issues are known to LG and as of May 2025, they did not have a way to fix them.

So far, I’m very impressed with this machine! I watched a few YouTube vids about how to maintain and use the different settings. it took some getting used to, but it works like a charm! Biggest learning curve is cleaning the lint trap every time, which is easy. Also, allowing clothes to dry on the normal cycle. There is no quick drying method, but, my clothes always come out nice dry, soft and smelling good on the normal dry cycle. I also love that although it’s big, it doesn’t take up too much space since it’s a single unit. It fits perfectly in our pantry area. I would leave a couple inches on either side though to allow it to “vent”.

I was lucky enough to get this product during the Fourth of July sale. Previously, I had a separate washing machine and dryer, but they were old and had a small capacity, so I changed them and came across LG's new products. The faucet was old and needed repairs for installation, but everything went smoothly at BestBuy. We have three cats and a dog in our house, so we have a lot of hair, but when we washed them, all the hair was collected in the filter at the top of the machine, which removed most of the hair from our clothes and blankets. The capacity is large enough to wash large items such as blankets, so there is no need to go to a separate coin laundromat. Both washing and drying takes about 2:30 minutes. You can control it with a mobile phone app, so if you set the time to return when you go out, you can do your laundry quietly and without being disturbed. It's a very smart product

I thoroughly researched combo washer/dryers before buying this unit, and knew that it was a bit of a bleeding edge product. My expectation was that I'd keep it for maybe 3 years then see if it was worth buying an upgraded model. I stopped using it after 6 months, and today I had it hauled away as trash. Our primary complaint with the unit itself was that permanent press would always come out heavily wrinkled. We knew drying would take longer. We knew that towels might not come out completely dry. But having your clothes come out wrinkled was a real problem. But that alone wasn't enough for us to write it off. In addition to the wrinkled clothes, maintenance on this unit is a REAL PAIN. If you have a standard washer & dryer set, you're used to running a cleaning cycle on the washer and cleaning the lint filter on the dryer. That's true of this unit also. But you also have to regularly drain water and check a second filter at the very bottom of the washer. And about once every 1-2 weeks, you have to go through a difficult cleaning process of the filter compartment that's on top of the washer. To do this, you have to remove 6 screws, a plastic flange and two plastic screens. You have one typical dryer vent that you have to clean out with a brush — that's fairly easy. But then you have to take a nylon brush (not provided and hard to find online) and clean the condenser fins — I grabbed a picture of this from the manual and am attaching it. I think I have average-to-large hands, and it was very difficult to get the brush into every nook and cranny where you could definitely see lint build-up. If you don't keep this cleaned out regularly... well, I don't know what happens but I'm guessing it's not good. The permanent press issue was very annoying because I don't particularly care for ironing my shirts. But this routine and difficult maintenance was the dealbreaker. LG needs to redesign access to this compartment — it needs to have a wider opening so it's easier to access the condenser area, and you need to be able to do it without a screwdriver. It's ridiculous that routine cleaning of a lint filter involves screws! I really wanted to like this product. I have an LG washer/dryer set in the basement that I'm quite happy with, but I was getting tired of hauling all the laundry down-and-up two flights of stairs. The prospect of being able to add laundry upstairs and only having to get water lines installed made this a very tempting product. But it just has some issues that need to be resolved before it can be considered reasonable to use. One other comment: I bought this with the optional pedestal storage unit. Unless you are a very tall person, don't do it. If you think cleaning out that filter on top of the unit is a pain, try doing it if you're under 6 feet tall. It's awkward. So, counting the unit and the pedestal storage, I basically spent about $2K for something I used for 6 months and then threw away. I've now had a 240V outlet run upstairs and today my plumber installed a dryer vent so that I can have a conventional washer/dryer set installed. I had the plumber haul it away — I told him he was free to keep it or give it away to someone who could use it but I didn't want to sell it because I couldn't do so in good conscience. I wouldn't sell something that I don't recommend, and I do not recommend this product.

We have been using the first one we bought for almost 2 years and lived it so much when we remodeled our bathroom and laundry room we set it up for another washer! Great to be able to throw a load in the morning and it’s ready to get put away by the time you get home from work. *****BIG TIP******* MAKE SURE ALL THREE FILTERS ARE CLEAN. Takes 5 seconds and will make sure you don’t have issues

Great washer and dryer! Compact but still large enough to run full loads of laundry. Filter is easy to clean! Dryer takes longer but the convenience is worth the extra wait!
