    Excellent Washer - Way Overpriced

The size of this washer is just perfect, not only is it energy efficient but you can wash what would take 2-3 loads in a normal washer in one single load. I believe the price is way too high for everything you get. Just because it's a larger size doesn't give a valid reason to charge $500+ more than it's closest size down.

I was very nervous about spending this much money but it was by far the best thing I've ever done for myself! I cannot recommend this washer and dryer enough. The only drawback I can think of is that I have to run our extremely thick bath mats on two different cycles in the dryer to get them 100% dry. This is a tiny issue compared to the ENORMOUS time and effort that I have saved using these! I can wash our california king bedding anytime i want now too! The end chime is really nice. Both are very quiet. I rarely use all the features, but all seem to work well. I cannot recommend this enough!

I love the features on this washer and the size. It washes a lot of clothing at a time, you can fill it to the top and it still tumbles just fine. I especially like the "sanitary" and "allergen" cycles, with 3 special needs kids to take care of and also 3 cats and 1 dog in the house that is really helpful. This washer is well worth the extra money.

BUY WITH CAUTION:Good at first but not in long run

I thought I would write this review after owning this product for some time. In the past, I have owned a front loading whirlpool duet washer and dryer, so this would be what I may be comparing the LG model to. The pros of the product, is it has a much larger capacity to wash items. I find that comforters fit nicely into the drum and have extra room to tumble able easily. We are just a young couple, and find that we only have to wash two to three loads every other week: one load for whites, and two loads for colors. The units are much quieter than our other whirlpool front loading washer and dryer, so we never hear it running or notice it at least. The cons of the product is after owning the unit for 10 months and what I would call light use of washing clothes, it has sprung a leak from the bottom. Did I mention we are a young couple with no kids yet? We have checked the obvious places it may be leaking such as hoses and connections, but they are completely dry. So we called LG since we are still under warranty. They said it was an "operator" issue with us using too much "HE" detergent, and we should use less. In which we did for the next couple of loads with a recommended "tub clean" cycle per manufacturer instructions. No such luck, it still leaks 10 months out. This is my second call out to LG for them to send a serviceman out. They said they will not until a third call of leakage. I am not happy. The washer should not be leaking at all. So definitely, buy with caution. This is a newer model, but after 10 months of owning this washer, I'm already having issues.

We bought this washer in November 2012 because we needed a larger capacity washer and this washer definitely fits the bill for that. I've never owned an LG appliance before and had previously only used Whirlpool or Kenmore. I decided to give LG a shot since it's the largest home washer on the market and it received good ratings from Consumer Reports. We can wash our king size comforter, comforter cover, sheets, and pillow case in a single load. There are a ton of options for different cycles and you can even create your custom one. The washer itself seemed to do a good job washing and getting out stains that were pretreated. We have two young boys so this happened a LOT. The washer also is very quiet and doesn't vibrate during spin cycles. Although that's not a huge deal for us since it's located in our basement. Fast forward to March 2014. I went to turn the power on the washer and no lights. I checked my circuit breaker and made sure there was power going to the outlet by plugging in my dryer. So I called LG and explained my problem. After some questions from the LG representative, she diagnosed the problem as a faulty control board. However, since the washer only comes with a 1 year warranty, she advised we would have to pay for the repair. I told her that is ridiculous and a washer costing more than $1k should last more than 1 year and 4 months. At that point she told me as a one time courtesy they could extend the warranty and cover the cost of repair. She provided me the number to the local authorized repair shop to set up an appointment. I called them and was told they will need to pre-order the control board and will call me once the part arrives. I told a friend about our ordeal and she told me the same exact thing happened to her LG washer. In her case, they were unable to fix the washer so they provided a refund. She bought an extended warranty from the store so she didn't go through LG warranty though. I'm really hoping that won't be the case for us since I'm not sure LG would do that at this point and I had to remove doors and trim from two door openings so the washer would fit through. As long as it gets fixed, I'll be happy so now I'm just waiting. I'll report back with an update once the part comes in and the washer is repaired. I'm glad LG stepped up and is willing to repair the washer out of warranty even though it really should have lasted much longer than just a year and few months.

    Bad Choice!

I wrote a review on the graphite steal color way to fast...... After having this washer for 2 months, I have noticed many of my clothes were snagged and have a bad order, especially towels. I have tried to wash them on sanitary and it did not change the meldow - burnt smell. The snagging happens during the spin cycle. What happens is, the spin sucks part of the fabric into the drain holes and when it stops the clothing is released from the spin and the fabric pulls out of the hole which I believe is where the snag takes place. It's like the punctured hole in the drum are not smooth on the inner side. As for the smell, I think there is definitely not enough water used help clean. As a matter of fact, it uses a very minimal amount of water and then uses that same dirty water to spray your clothes. This is what they are calling "turbo wash". What a joke.

I have only had this for a few days, but it is great. It is very quiet and cleans clothes very well. I really like the Allergiene cycle as well, although it is quite a long cycle. Cleaning and maintaining the washer looks like it will be very easy.

Overall excellent product, but could improve the position of function keys. Recommend functions keys be on 45 deg. angle to avoid being tripped accidentally by body leaning against washer. And they should be lighted or in White Lettering. Both of these will greatly aid in reading the keys. I put White lettering labels over the black lettering!

We just had the washer delivered yesterday, so I haven't had alot of experience yet. It does do a normal wash in 35 minutes, which is great. It is quiet and it does vibrate some during the spin cycle, but it isn't a problem. I will mention that since it uses so little water, it did not get the cat hair off of the blankets. I guess I'll have to use a lint brush.

    Best front loader ever made.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have had front loaders all my life and rebuild the old ones people abused.. However, I like the new design ( front loaders were the first automatic washers ever made. The first one made in 1938 by the Bendix company. It was called the Economat because it saved money on water and electricity use. Then, in 1953,Bendix introduced the first all in one washer and dryer named the Duomatic.. They were bought out by Ford motor Company to compete with GM who owned FRIGIDAIRE from 1913 to 1978.Both Bendix and Frigidaire are now owned by Electrolux of Sweeden. Not at all connected to Electrolux vacuums. So front loaders are far from new but the technology has improved 1000%The direct drive saves money because it decreases the need for more parts that can decrease the dependability of any appliance. The more parts that are used, the more possibilities you get in need of repairs.Being that said, if LG did't make a great set of laundry equipment, they would lose millions from their ten year motor warranty.I wash pillows, shoes, stuffed toy animals,my tent,my sleeping bags and my sails!!! All come out so clean and smell so great!~

Too many bells and whistles; mediocre performance

I walked in looking for another brand and let the salesman talk me into this LG. Since buying it, I really have not been satisfied. It does not truly have the one feature I was looking for (you can set it up for one cycle only) and it has a bunch of other bells and whistles I really don't care for. On top of that, you have to read the manual to understand what the different cycles do and, even then, you can't always find out what you want/need to know. For what it costs, it doesn't do that great of a job with perma-pressed clothes and heavy clothes often come out wetter than they should be. Give me back the old MW / Norge I had 26 years ago. It was simple, reliable, easy to use, with the options I wanted and none I didn't - and it did a good job of washing your clothes. Before this, I had a Bosch and I wouldn't recommend those either.

    3rd set

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my 3rd set of LG Front Loaders every time I've sold a house the buyer sees them and wants them. 1 reason why I went with this over the Samsung is that the Samsung does not allow you to leave the door cracked open so it can dry out which as we all know causes mildew and mold. I read a lot of talk about how the washer still retains water inside and you have to dry it out. It's logical science that the washer is a completely sealed unit so that it does not leak during operation. common sense would tell you this as it explains in the manual which is why this LG is designed with a magnet in the door that allows you to leave the door cracked so that the inside and seal dries out between uses. It's not a product defect it's lack of consumer knowledge. Excellent washer. Yes. Certified to kill bacteria for steam. YES. Love the high rate of spin ROM's which allows for shorter dry times. I can honestly say this is my 3rd set and I had not have 1 issue with any of them over the past 15 years. Expecting the same with this new model as well.

    CANNOT GET WARRANTY RAPAIRS DONE

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Absolute true story, and I would invite anyone from BB or LG to dispute it. I purchased this washer and the matching dryer in March 2013 from Best Buy, and when I did I purchased the extended warranty. The dryer stopped heating, which was no big deal initially, as I simply called to get the warranty service performed. That is where the nightmare begins. I scheduled the service through BestBuy, and unknowingly my wife had also called in to LG. Well, LG simply gave the name and phone number of the same place BestBuy had already scheduled the service call to, so we did not bother calling them. Service was scheduled for Wed morning, and when the date and time came without so much as a call from the service provider, I called them, only to be informed that they refused to perform any warranty work for LG, as LG would not pay them, and the woman actually informed me that their shop was apparently the last shop in Knoxville TN that would do warranty work, which is why LG continuously sent people to them, and she wished me luck in getting my dryer repaired. I called BestBuy, and explained the issue to them, and the lady from BestBuy forwarded my call to LG, but she remained on the line the entire time, in case I experienced any problems. Well, needless to say, the lady from LG tried to simply give me names and phone numbers of shops in Knoxville, including the one that had already refused to do the work. I told her she was welcome to call one, and I would be fine if she could find one that would do the work. She placed me and the lady from BestBuy on hold, and proceed to try and contact anyone whop would do the work. She returned on the line, and informed the lady from BestBuy and myself that she was in fact unable to find anyone to perform the warranty repair. The lady from BestBuy then said she would take care of it, and we got off the phone with LG. Long story short, BB was unable to locate anyone to do the repair either, and so BB said they would replace the unit. I explained I did not want the LG, even though when the two appliances did work they worked very well, if I cannot get warranty work done, and therefor we would have to replace both the washer and dryer with a different name brand. BB Service agreed, and gave me a number that I was to take to the store, and pick out whatever comparably priced systems I wished to get. I got to the store, and was told they would only be replacing the dryer, and not the washer, even though I was getting one that was a different name brand and different color. Several hours later, and after getting BB Service on the phone, they informed the store manager that they were replacing both the washer and dryer. This was an extremely horrible experience for both my wife and I, and took over 1 month to complete, during which time we were without a dryer, less than one year after having purchased a set for $3000 from the local BB. Corporate BB Service, on the phone were really good people, always polite, and in the end they were the ones who got all of this done. But, LG, and the local BB store were horrible, and made the experience an absolute nightmare, and one of the worst experience my wife and I have ever had. Lucky for us, we have two different BB store within just a few miles of each other, and we will be taking our business to the other store from this point forward, as we have never had a bad time there. But, and this is a huge BUT, I have to tell anyone, at least from Knoxville, to stay away from LG appliances, you will not and cannot get warranty work done in this entire town. Knoxville TN is not a small town, by any means, and so the fact that we were unable to get warranty repairs done here should be more than enough reason for anyone in other cities to at least check and verify the availability of local warranty service prior to purchasing any LG appliances. Speaking for my wife and I, we will not have another LG device in our house, after this nightmare!! The question, would I recommend this to a friend, well I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!

I'm in LOVE with this washer...

It may sound crazy but I am in LOVE with this washer. My children wear uniforms to school then change into regular clothes when they get home so it's like I have to wash clothes for 8 kids instead of 4. I am doing laundry ALL the time. The large capacity has truly cut my wash load down significantly. I can stuff the drum full and my clothes will still come out clean. I am able to wash my king size comforter and have it get really clean. I love that I can choose water that is either 'cold' or 'tap cold' which in Florida are very different temperatures. We have allergies and I love the allergen cycle. It is great. The Bright White cycle REALLY WORKS!! My clothes actually do come out whiter. The washer is extremely quiet. I can actually watch TV in the next room without closing the laundry room door when the washer is running. The dryer is noisier than the washer and that isn't very noisy at all. I really like the chimes indicating when a load is finished. They are very pleasant. Get the pedestals. Because they are front loaders those of us who are a little taller have to really reach down to open and close it. I ordered the pedestals after the first day. The people who designed this machine must have listened to those of us who do lots of laundry. They designed the perfect machine.

    Disappointed

I loved the look of this machine but when we got it home, it barely fit into our laundry room and had to remove the cabinets above to make it fit with the pedestals. After trying it out right away we had LOUD banging noises throughout the whole house. I have never had that with any other washer and dryer. We had to buy a couple of water hammer arresters to make it stop. We also noticed that every time we finished a wash cycle and would leave the door cracked to dry out, the spout that fills the tub right at the top of the door inside the tub would leak water and drip down the front glass and down into the drawers below. I started getting a line on the front of the washer and had to clean it up everyday. We loved the light in washer, it was bright and I liked the way the tub filled with water and it looked like it used a little more water than the set we have now but we still had issues with our jeans smelling unclean every time we would wash. Its not a terrible product but it was not for me. I did not like having to buy the arresters just to use this product and did not like the leaking. So be prepared if you buy this, make sure to buy 2 arresters at the same time you purchase, and make sure you have plenty of space as these are very large and be aware of the leaking water when the door stays cracked. It has a magnet that hold the door cracked so the tub can breathe.

Customizing the cycle was easy to meet our needs. We wash about 5 loads a day. It still takes about the same amount of time to wash. The high speed spin is amazing, the towels are nearly dry taking only 20 minutes to dry a full load. The size of the load is amazing - we can wash twice as much as our older "duets". No better warranty on motor/drum.
