I got this to use with my mac mini instead of the apple drive. It was nearly half the price, and it works flawlessly.

The LG DVD player is very simple to use-just plug it into the USB drive in your computer. I bought it because I like to play DVDs on my computer since I don't have a TV. The salesperson at best buy knew this, however, he did not warn me that I would have to download more software just to play the DVD. The package comes with a free trial of PowerDVD, however it is $80 for the software! After already having to buy the dvd player, I was not about to spend another chunk of money just to play the movies on my computer. However, I did find free software that works quite well. The only other downside is it is quite noisy. and if the player is jostled around too much, it may mess up the DVD. I recommend keeping it flat and not moving it around. Overall, for what I was looking for, it serves its purpose.

Got this drive to install software on a new Dell laptop. This drive works as advertised.

I usually stay away from external drives. However, the Dell 7100 that I purchased doesn't have an internal, so I went with the LG. Only complaint - I get a request to update the firmware every time I boot the computer. No matter what I hit, yes or no, it still pops up. Other than that, it's a nice lil' drive for the price.
