It works on my Microsoft Surface Pro Tablet, which has only 1 USB port. Some external DVD drives require additional power with a 2nd USB port, which the Surface Pro Tablet does not have. You're good to go with this DVD drive.

This is a fine external DVD player. I wish the cord was a little longer. I don't like that there is no way to tell what is happening. I wish it had a readout display or something. But it does it's job and works just fine.

It's supposed to be plug and play, but it's plug and doesn't play. Plus, LG doesn't list its customer support number anywhere with this. When you finally find it on their website, they're not open on the weekends.

Who wants to deal with an external hard drive to play or download a CD or DVD? Inconvenient, didn't seem to work smoothly, and caused a delay in boot time. Glad I returned it with the awful Toshiba Radius laptop.

Unlike earlier designs, this drive can not be used as a internal laptop drive. The internal interface will not work as an internal sata drive. Other than that it works perfectly as a external only drive.

The cd/dvd drive in my daughter's laptop computer (samsung rv520) died and she wanted to burn some heavy metal cds to iTunes so i bought her this outboard cd/dvd writer/player. i was very pleased with the simplicity of the design, the small size and the fact that it did not require a power cord. the problems started when i tried to install it. first off, the setup and drivers are all on a CD-ROM. if you're trying to replace a dead CD drive, this is--ahem--UNhelpful. so, i went to my computer & transferred the contents of the CD-ROM to a flash drive. well, the software prevented me from installing via flash drive or from the laptop's hard drive. so the thing just sat there. the laptop would not recognize it - no matter which of the 3 USB ports i used. after messing around with the Microsoft control panel, i entered the world of "Manage Your Devices" and found that the drivers designed to be used with this CD/DVD are 'unsigned' and therefore un-installable. The websites for LG and Samsung were 100% useless. Neither offered drivers and LG doesn't seem to know that they even make this unit. After reading the fine print on all of the papers that come with the unit, i found out that the software for the LG SP60NB50 was written by GEAR Software. So i went to their website. First thing i see there is a notice affirming that ALL of their drivers are "Signed" by Microsoft. Great! But try telling my kid's laptop that. In the end, I wound up downloading the 30-day trial version of one of GEAR's software products. i don't know what it does and i doubt i'll ever use it, but within minutes the CD/DVD drive started working. I successfully burnt a CD to the hard drive using iTunes & went to bed. It was, after all, 2AM. In summary, getting the computer (running W7) to recognize the drive was unusually difficult, but not impossible. I can see how someone less persistent than me would just give up and return the drive.

The drive is fine, nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done. Installing it was a bit annoying as the computer was looking to update the software it came with, but otherwise the drive is fine.

need to view college course dvd's. Need to connect to single usb port on which it was initially installed. Does not differentiate data vs video dvd's requiring user to select software to read.

I needed accessory. My eject button hasn't worked since day 1 so I have to use the emergency pinhole. This doesn't bother me enough to return but shouldn't be necessary on a new product.

Set up was not the easiest. Works ok if you're burning a disc but if you want to play a dvd you have to download additional program.

Having difficulty getting ITunes to import cd's. Initially it worked great. Now it does not recognize the player. Don't know if this is anITunes problem or a player problem.

I bought a computer without a disk drive so this is needed for using any disks. I needed it to install my Kaspersky. It serves the purpose. The door sticks sometimes.
