Good laptop accessory
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the disc drive about six months ago for my laptop. I've had no problems with it. I don't use it much, but it is handy at times. I've used it to install software, view disc files, playback music, and burn discs. Everything worked fine. I haven't played a DVD movie with it, so I can't speak to that. I wish the tray would eject using a motor like is used in a desktop computer, but that would probably make it less slim. In short, I recommend it as an effective accessory for your laptop.

LG ULTRA SLIM PORTABLE DVD WRITER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased a new HP Lap Top that did not com with an internal Disc drive. I had looked on line at Best Buy.com and there is was a whole range of different dvd drives, but the reviews on this particular LG model seemed to be good. I look in my local Store and this model was on sale. Set up was easy, just plugged the USB into the computer and put a DVD in. IT was all set to go... I was very impressed with the size of this DVD player too. Its a very small unit only 5 inches Squared, and half inch depth. with USB plug in . NO A/C needed, That's Great... I'm so impressed with this unit I might buy another just to put in my computer back incase I forget the other one.

Inexpensive and Working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this external DVD Writer for my new laptop which does not have internal DVD/CD drive. I rarely need this external DVD Writer but since I can get 50% off if I buy laptop and DVD writer together I did it. It works although not exciting. For best portability, many new laptops don't have DVD/CD drive. I would need this unit for all rare occasions.

Great addition to my laptop purchase.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed access to an inexpensive but high quality external DVD drive, and this did the trick. It has been easy to use, connected quickly, and has helped me to access files and view various videos that were previously inaccessible (due to my laptop not having an internal drive). Grateful for this find!

You Get What You Pay For
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive works just fine considering the price and the speed. You can pay more for a faster drive. We only use it so we can load software to a tablet that does not have an internal drive. The speed is not an issue because we are not loading new software that often.

Exception To The Rule?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the store this item looked to be exactly what I was looking for. Good price, exceptional size, reasonable price. Unfortunately it went down hill from there. The LG comes with an OS by CyberLink. On the disc it says it the Super Multi Drive (Oooooo!). Don't let the clever marketing fool you - there was nothing super about the drive or the CyberLink support service. After the install I thought it would be nifty to actually play a DVD. Hmmm... couldn't figure out how to actually start a DVD. How embarrassing! I couldn't believe I actually had to go to HELP for such a simple task. However when I did go to HELP, I found out that the CyberLink dashboard should have had PLAY between MUSIC & DATA. My dashboard was missing this icon. There was indeed no way to actually PLAY a DVD! Stranger things have happened. I contacted CyberLink Customer Service. Explained in detail my problem. The reply came reasonably quick, but gave no indication that my question was read (they asked what DVD I was trying to play? I replied that it was irrelevant which DVD I wanted to play, THEIR ICON WAS MISSING therefore NO DVD's could be played!# and asked for even more questions than the lengthy submission form required during my initial submission. The next communication from CyberLink Support Service came days later and actually argued that I provided the wrong serial number for the software. I actually had to provide them a screen shot to prove to them the SR I provided was correct. I couldn't believe the support issue shifted from fixing the problem to proving I could copy an eleven digit alphanumeric number accurately. This after I proved myself competent by successfully completing the long service ticket form. Select Product, Select Software Version, Select Question Type, Select Question Sub-Type, Product Source, OS, Activation/CD Key. Not to mention providing the DxDiag log file, Screen shot of the error message #or in my case, the dashboard showing the icon missing from where it should be#. Yet despite the plethora of information provided, CyberLink Support has screeched to an apparent halt. It's been over a week since this ordeal began. Way too long for a simple external DVD drive. CyberLink has yet to respond to my service ticket, its been three days now since I last heard from them. I expected a simple download from their site a week ago. Apparently CyberLink's concerns lie elsewhere. I also now question LG. With all the options available to them, what made CyberLink look like such a great selection? Are the decisions by the LG Product Manager for external DVD drives so low on the corporate priorities that the gave up caring about the decisions he/she makes? I buy a lot of PC's and peripherals #thus explaining why BB gave me an ElitePlus card). I can't recall a worse support experience by a supplier in a very very long time. Tomorrow the drive gets returned. Enough is enough.

Solid Reliability
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because I like to burn DVD Movies and other compilations for my own personal use and so far this product has satisfied all of my needs so far. Not one disk I have burned had a coaster so far. The software included is a light version of Cyberlink Products. There is a version of YouCam in there but it's limited to taking photos of yourself and other misc things but you can't use the desktop recording feature or other stuff. Also be aware you can't install this disk on another computer that does not have this drive. If this drive is not plugged in , you can't install it. The cord is also a pretty good length it seems to be a low power draw from the USB port and not require another port to use , its also a standard USB plug and not some funky angle plug that would drive computer users batty. This DVD Burner by the way replaced another brand name that has the name of an actual animal which I won't say in this review but it did not last very long....
