I felt like I needed an external drive since my new laptop doesn't have one. I have only used it once, so in the end, I guess I really don't need it but I'm still glad to have it. It's got a sleek design and looks pretty. The initial install of the software was buggy and I had to uninstall it but I'm sure that was a one off thing and I'll reinstall once I have the chance. Did what it was supposed to do when I plugged it in... allowed me to play the disc inserted. Overall, it's a good product and I'd purchase it again if I had the chance.

For a cheap yet good product for use when you dont have a DVD drive with your computer, this is a great product. I would recommend this if you absolutely need one for your computer.

It's good these days to have a predictable, productive device. Often diversified device inputs and productivity are limited due to space saving sacrifices. This and it's bluray burning sibling are USB 3, allowing for seamless file transfer and media viewing.

If you buy an ultrabook or a groovy touchscreen tablet PC like a Lenovo Horizon or MacBook Air or Surface Pro, you'll just have to go back and get this if you don't leave with it the first time. There are still DVDs in the world, and making physical hard copies of your digital photos and media is absolutely necessary. Don't lose all the pictures of your baby, or all your music, by having a hard drive crash with no backup. This device burns whatever you need quickly with no drama, just does what it's meant for. Looks nice on your desk too, you won't feel the need to hide it when not in use.

I love the small size and light weight. It is great for laptops that have a dvd player that has stopped working. Its cheaper and replacing the internal driver.

there was a drive 15 cheaper on daily deals the week before but the drive works really well and very fast cd burns. the setup is very easy too just attach to my macbook pro and before I knew it the itunes recognized and asked if I wanted to burn a cd. easy 123

I bought this external DVD for my daughter in college, and I used it before she left. It worked great, and I saved a lot of money (and weight) by purchasing a laptop without an internal DVD player. She and I are very pleased and would recommend to anyone.

I needed a portable DVD for an emergency when the internal one broke. This portable besides being affordable actually performs better than the internal one.

I already had an external burner for my netbook but it got left when I left for holidays ; and the other was brought to me so I sent this one back. To be honest this thing is really slim and great I just didn't have a use for it once my other 1 showed up

I purchased this external CD drive as my personal laptop did not have an internal drive. I use this primarily to load software onto the computer that I can not download from online. This unit works for its intended purpose and I am happy with it. I do have an error message that now pops up every time I turn my computer on that has something to do with LG. I am not sure if I did not finish setting up the device correctly from the beginning, but I will figure out how to get that from popping up sometime soon. At the current moment, I just click okay and move on. Other than that the unit works well and I am pleased with the purchase.

I was looking and looking for a nice external cd rom drive for my computer. Instead of looking, I should have just come to Best Buy first because they had exactly what I needed for an extremely low price. I would definitely 100% recommend this product!

I bought this for the few instances when I need a CD burner. I've used it a couple times, and it was very easy - just plug in and go. The size/weight makes it very portable, and I like the possibility of plugging it into a digital TV as a kind of last-resort DVD player if needed. I haven't had any issues with this, but perhaps some might find the cord a bit on the short side. Otherwise, I think it is reasonably priced and works very well for my light usage.

It great for the prices. Bought an apple originally and it would not work on my laptop with retina display. Best Buy suggested this one. It seems to be working okay, but have not had a chance to use it a lot to make sure.

My only issue with this product is that the software that comes with it does not have a DVD player and you will have to download a third party DVD player for playback.

Helps make computer more useful. My daughter is a nursing student and needed a smaller computer, but the computer didn't have a DVD/CD compartment, which she needed for her course work and classes. This simple addition made classes and classwork easier.

My new computer doesn't have a DVD drive, and some of the SW I needed to install were only available via DVD. This drive is very portable, fast and reliable

Bought while out of town as a disc player for my Mac Air, it has functioned well as player/ burner. Was surprised to see could also play DVDs trough a newer TVs USB port, a very nice bonus.

Works well with my netbook since those little netbooks don't have a cd rom or dvd drive internally. Also as a backup drive just in case one of my laptop drives goes down.
