If you buy an Ultrabook, there is no CD/DVD writer or player. If you want to load music from CD's or software from a disc, then you need an external drive. This one works for the downloads but the setup could be simpler. I get a message asking for permission to make a change to my PC for the LG drive several times per hour and can't get rid of it despite approving it every time.

The LG external DVD-RW is great for the new laptops with no DVD-RW unit. The USB connection makes it easy to use.

Bought this external drive for my daughter's laptop. Easy to install and quick to get up and running. She places DVDs all the time with it and it is very quiet and has not had any problems.

I haven't used it for anything heavy-duty yet, but so far no actual function issues. However, being so lightweight, I need to use two hands to load and unload it, an annoying change after decades of being able to use an internal drive on my computer. (The ongoing tablet-ization of desktop units annoys me.)

It gets the job done at a reasonable price. It has successfully downloaded every disc I've put in there, and the portable size is useful. It is recommended on the box that you treat it with care because of the size, so while the portability is convenient, I wouldn't just toss it in a bag and go. Make sure it's in a relatively safe spot.

I am using this drive to replace the internal CD Rom drive. Low cost and works great.

Works great on a PC, as well as on my Mac Mini. Just needed a small drive that I could use for the rare times I needed to use a CD or DVD on my computer. This one is very small and compact (basically a laptop drive). Powered by the USB cable (no external power supply) Haven't had any problems with it so far.

This DVD/R Drive has proven to be effective. It reads and writes disks fast. Great value. Does the job.
