It seems to work, but...

I was able to use it to install webroot on my laptop, but I couldn't install the media suite they gave me. So now my dvds look like files. A problem with the drive or the program?

However, that one would only spin the set up disk for a couple of revolutions which would not install the software. I returned and exchanged for another. This one seems fine so far and was able to load the software from the disk

good for listening to music cds

I have an older CD game that I bought this product to play it on my lap top. all i am able to do is see some of the photos from the game and listen to some of the background music.

However although it states that it will record at 8x it only recorded at 4x (I have other external drives and when tested against this LG, recorded the same material at 8x.

Not all of the included software is compatible with Win 8.1, but the drive can read disk without full software installation.

Not entirely sure if it was a drive problem or a computer problem… but it happened on multiple computers so probably the drive.

Ok but not impressive

I had problems with the initial unit because it wasn't reading the CDs are DVDs so I took it back in exchange for another one of the same and it did work better. However I'm having some compatibility issues with my MacBook
