This is the first time I've ever had an external cd drive so maybe they are all that way. Love LG. Bought my computer, one of the top of the line for what I was looking for, got it home... AHHH!! No cd drive??? Are you kidding me? I didn't pay attention to that, lol. Holy cow. I gotta have my music and this works fantastic, great brand and as I said, the noise may be typical with external drives.
