I have always been an HP laptop person. I was convinced to buy the LG Gram. I couldn’t be happier with my laptop. The Geek Squad was fantastic seeing it up and showing me how to do things on the laptop.

LG probably is not the first brand that comes to mind when shopping for a new laptop, but it probably should be. Many of the company's computers (they call these notebooks) are second to none and industry-eading on some fronts, not the least of which is weight. This model, with a powerful Intel Ultra 7 processor, 32 megs of RAM, a roomy and quite impressive 17 inch display and 1TB SSD weighs in at just over 3 pounds, making it not only one of the most powerful laptops I have ever used but also the lightest. LG has even done away with the once hefty power brick once commonly found on all laptops, which makes portability even easier. A small USB C power brick is all that is needed now to provide full-time power or charge up the battery, which supposed to last 15-20 hours. A nice long cord is included. Most of the other specs are pretty high-end as well. This is the first device I have ever owned that fully supports WiFi 7, the built-in Dolby Atmos sound system is quite strong for a laptop and Intel's latest and greatest ARC graphics processor has enough power to even handle many popular games. It has two USB A ports, two USB C , an HDMI port and a headphone jack. Also new is the fact this is a CoPilot + PC, which is designed to run a souped up version of the regular old CoPilot AI, available on all Windows 11 PCs. CoPilot + is capable of doing more complex tasks while using less power. Many are graphics related but it will also translate in real time using captions. Most of this is courtesy of Intel's Core Ultra processer -- a new generation chip designed specifically to turbocharge AI. I don't have much use for much of what CoPilot + does but did spend a little time chatting with her (she does not have a catchy name like Alexa...just CoPilot) I was impressed with how natural she sounds and the fact she is much more conversational than the current version of Alexa (a more advanced version was on the way as this is written). She does attempt to engage in a conversation, sometimes asking follow-up questions to the one ones you pose. But I was pretty underwhelmed by the facts she provided in response to a variety of questions I asked. You can get a lot more from a simple Google search. For all the hype, AI is still very much a work in progress, more useful to some people than others. But back to the LG Gram itself. Another great feature is the super-sharp 2560x1600 17-inch display. It's not an OLED but colors are quite vivid and well saturated and contrast is excellent. And unlike some earlier LG Gram models, which had had glare issues because of glossy screens, this one effectively fights glare with a matte finish. Overall, it is a very powerful and very well-equipped laptop that can breeze through most computing tasks at lightning speed -- even once-challenging jobs like video editing and other chores that require substantial processing power. Pretty much everything else is child's play for the LG Gram. If you have not purchased one of these in while, say hello to the laptop evolved. This is not say it is perfect, however. Perhaps my biggest disappointment is with the built-in Intel WiFi 7 network adapter, which proved to be a bit slower than my older WiFi 6 and 6E laptops. I have 2.5G internet service with a WiFi 7 router but was lucky to get much more than 500MB throughput (and sometimes much less) with the LG Gram, about half the top speed I sometimes got using WiFi 6 or 6E. I fiddled a bit with the deep in the weeds device manager settings on the network adapter but nothing seemed to help much, except moving it much closer to the router. I managed to get 1G speeds when I was within a foot or so from the router. Since the WiFi 7 hardware and protocols are relatively new, I am hoping future software updates will improve this over time. Also of concern: Some older folks may have issues with high-res, 2560x1600 display since the default resolution and scaling making all the text quite tiny by default. But I found bumping up the scale to 175 percent (in display settings) solved most of my problems on that front. One other major gripe is beyond LG's control: Windows 11. Microsoft has become increasingly aggressive over the years in harvesting personal information and as a result, the setup process for any new computer running Windows has become very cumbersome. You have to answer endless questions about what personal information you will allow Microsoft harvest from you, some of which are disguised as offers for free stuff. Be aware that any offer for free anything comes with an agreement that allows the company to monitor and harvest pretty much everything you do. Caveat emptor. Also be aware Microsoft has become downright draconian in its efforts to block you from using any browser other than its own Edge. Any attempt to download and run a competitor like like Chrome will result in multiple efforts to stop you or convince you to use Edge instead. And even if you are eventually successful, Windows will sometimes still launch Edge anyway when have opted to launch Chrome. Very annoying. Despite those misgivings, this is still a pretty great laptop computer. It is light, powerful, easy on the eyes and probably up to just about any computing task you have in mind.

I love this laptop! The 17" wide touch screen is amazing! I feel like I have officially entered the 21st century. I am learning how many things this little lady can do. Until I learn everything, I am content with just exploring.
