Make Technology Weird!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thing and the fact that LG is willing to pursue some new weird form factors. This is the 2nd generation of the StandByMe and it’s kinda what the name implies: a smart TV which is on a stand. Oh, and did I mention this TV also has wheels so you can drag it around? And a battery so you don’t necessarily need to bring along a power cable? The form-factor really is quite neat and fun. The base is weighted substantially, so you don’t really need to worry about it tipping over and the arm both pivots up and down and also allows the TV to spin around to position it in landscape or portrait depending on the app or way you are using it. The TV is touchscreen and has a remote allowing for interaction close quarters or from across the room. It’s an average sensitivity touchscreen considering the size, but it isn’t the best I have used. The cool thing is what the portability and positioning options allow for. Here are some examples of some of the things we’ve used it for: - Late night office hours when you need an extra monitor - Personal TV time if your partner is watching something different - Rolling it up to the cat tree so they can watch Bird TV - A super fancy event sign-in tablet - Browsing the internet and online shopping on the couch - Presentations on the go - Watching you favorite show in a relaxing bath There are so many ways you can personally use it or how it enables sharing content as well. If you don’t need the stand, they even have a comically large folio case that you can use to stand it up on a table. There are games as well, which make it potentially great for families. As an early thirties individual, they aren’t the primary reason I would buy a device like this, but they are fun if you are looking for some down time on a bigger touch screen than your phone or tablet. The other cool thing is that when you have your laptop or computer plugged into the StandByMe 2 via USB C it also enables touchscreen input which is really handy for browsing the web. Overall, I am really impressed with the uniqueness and surprising versatility of having a device like this that you can just drag or carry around. Having a smart TV with a battery is one thing, but having the ability to move, position, connect and stream almost anywhere opens up all sorts of options!
