Great washer for our big family
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our Whirlpool washer of 17 years finally died. My wife and I debated between HE top loader vs. front loader. We finally decided on the front loader for maximum spinout of water and small water usage. when we saw this model, we saw some 1 star ratings, but it seemed that most of these negative reviews would have been better had they read the manual. These HE machines are complicated at first, but with any new tech, you need to read up on it to maximize the machine. We have 4 kids and do upwards of 8-10 loads of laundry/week (less in summer). We needed a large capacity washer with some options for shorter cycles. (I was concerned initially at the length of some cycles) Our normal load is 56 minutes compared to 40 on our old one (not bad). The key here is that the washer spins at such a higher rate, the dryer (also 17 years old) takes considerably less time to dry. The wrinkles people were talking about havent happened so far either. you can control the spin speed on this and we have kept everything on normal and so far, no problems. Hope to update soon.

was a matching open box item to a defective dryer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not LG's fault, the matching open box dryer had been returned and was defectvie. BB should have checked it out before reselling, and they should have offered me free delivery since by totall was well over the minimum for free delivery.

I am in love!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did tons of research on front loaders and top loaders before I went to Best Buy to see this one in person. It gets great reviews for good reason. I LOVE this machine. It is super easy to use and does an amazing job of cleaning. I forgot to pretreat a set-in grape juice stain, only remembering AFTER it came out of the dryer. It was GONE!!! My son had a shirt that he ruined with oil years ago. I had tried everything to get it out to no avail, so it became a play shirt only. I threw it in with a regular load and after 3 years that oil was gone with no pretreat. It had been set in for over 3 years!! Gone, gone I tell you!!! In one month my water bill was cut in half! I only have one complaint. When I wash pillows it gets unbalanced no matter what I do. It eventually balances itself but takes hours. BUY THIS WASHER!!!!!

Best washer I ever owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had 2 previous 2 bad experiences. First with a GE front loading washer. The second with a Whirlpool Cabrio top loading he washer. Basically, a waste of money and a bad quality washers. I am not picky, I just want a washer to work. it does not have to be perfect, just work good enough So after dealing with those 2 previous units for the last 6 years, I bought this washer and matching dryer. I left a dryer review as well. This washer is excellent, and so far perfect. It is quite and fast. 90% of my washes are on normal setting, and it takes no more than 50 minutes. It is awesome. It spins really well, is able to balance out all kinds of loads of clothes for proper spinning. I have a uneven floor, and after I leveled the washer with my level (delivery guy did not level my washer, I did it myself before I used the washer), it as worked great. I have the pedestal and it is awesome. The feet on the washer really "sticks or grips" the floor well. The washer does not move. In fact, it has not over an inch. It is exactly where I placed it, nice. The inside gasket is a good design. Water does not get trapped in the gasket. My washer does not smell. I do not close the door completely when not in use. It as a nice design where you can just close the door and a spring magnet will keep the door in a closed position without having to push door completely closed. Basically, leaving the door cracked opened while not in use. I washed my bed spread cover for the first time (as this is the first washer I owned that I felt I could actually wash this). Its a king size and washed excellent. I have dogs, so I use the steam and "Allergiene" settings on their beds and blankets. It takes 1.5 hours if you use the "Allergiene" setting. My dog's bedding and blankets have never smelled better. My house smells nice again. I was having to buy my blankets and pillows like every 4-6 months because of the smell. Now, I do not have to. This washer has a pre-wash setting. I love this. If I have a load of really dirty work clothes, I will use the pre-wash. That is basically a double wash. This washer has an extra rinse as well, but I never used it as I have always gotten clean clothes from the washer without it. Just to test the washer limits, I loaded 9 pairs of jeans (and I am a big person) on normal setting. Jeans washed well, clean, and washer did not move and rock on the floor. I was really impressed. My previous washers, I had to plan out what I loaded, not too much, mixed types of clothes so it could have a chance of a balanced spin. With this washer, I just stuff it full. I wash my clothes using fewer loads. It is time saver. I am so happy with this washer. My dryer review talks a little about my bad experience with online purchasing and delivery. So go there if you want to read it. Basically, buy all your purchases in person at a best buy store. Do not use the web site to buy your items. I did, and I will never buy through the web site again.

So Far, So Really Good!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this washer a week, and so far, love it. Gets clothes clean, Easy to figure out the basic controls. Pretty Quiet, does its job. I know some complain about the smell.. but geesh guys.. don't shut the door when it isn't in use. I leave mine open and it does fine. Also, be sure to use the (He) type soap, my old front load I wasn't using it and the clothes were getting grundgy, and now after reading the manual on this one I see why. I also don't try to load 7 towels and 5 jeans into it and expect it to be able to balance, again, the manual says don't stuff it full, be sure there is a gap at the top. I like the tune at the end of the load... but I'm a happy gal, hubby is not amused.. *snork* I'm hopeful the 'direct drive' will last more than the 10 years it is listed for, nice washer, and dryer.. like them both. BTW, I did buy the stacking kit, and they are doing great! so nice for my very small utility room!

She says it's fun!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this washer a couple months ago to pair up with a 6 year old Kenmore dryer (conventional, so gauges on raised panel at back of dryer). We got it on sale and Best Buy ended up matching prices with Lowes, which made it a good buy, relative to other comparable machines we were looking at. This is the first front loader we have owned, so we were very apprehensive about issues like odor, space, noise/vibration, etc. First, with regards to space, our washer is positioned about 5" from the wall (maybe could have been a bit closer) which results in the front of the side being 31.5" from the wall. We were worried it would stick out way past our conventional dryer, but it's fine. The washer protrudes out more in the middle than the edges, due to the curvature and the door, at that point it is 33.5" from the wall. It stands 39" tall (vs 35.5" at the front for our conventional dryer). So, all-in-all, our space concerns were unwarranted and it looks fine with the conventional dryer. Second, regarding odor - we leave the door propped open for about an hour after washing clothers, then we let it close to the point where the magnets hold it slightly ajar. My wife tells me she wipes the door seal down (briefly) after every usage as well. We have cleaned it once during the 2 months we have had it, using bleach (in the bleach compartment of the soap tray) and the clean cycle. So far, no issues with odor (and not too much trouble to avoid it). Third, noise/vibration. The washer is much quieter than our old (20 years old!) Kenmore Elite washer so, that is great. It does make some odd noises while operating, but these are not loud, just not what we would expect from a washer (electronic device adjusting itself kind of noises). The loudest it gets is when it winds itself up to full speed during a spin cycle, which is a noise that almost sounds like an airplane taking off or something (but not that loud, of course). Even then, it is still quiet, relatively speaking. We have it located in a laundry room on our main floor just off the kitchen, so if it was loud we'd notice it. We don't, we forget that it's going, until the music at the end, of course. The operation time for the washer depends on the size of the load, which it senses at the beginning of operation, as well as other settings (e.g delicate vs normal). We have never seen over "2 bars" (out of 4) so we are not sure what we would have to do to completely fill it. The longest cycle time for a load has been about 55 minutes, the shortest in the low 40's. As far as we can tell, it is a very efficient washer. It never appears to have water in it, although you can hear it filling now and again. Our water bill has not gone up, even though it is summer and we are washing clothes more often now. To that last point, the washer is (my wife's words, not mine) so much fun to operate that my wife says she finds herself looking for clothes to wash! We can't speak to long term reliability, we hope that it will be as good as our last washer, but that's actually a pretty high bar since it lasted 20 years! So far, we are very happy with it.

Perfect for small families
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As we have to rely on our own well, water efficiency is a big selling point on the LG. It is very stingy on water usage, sometimes to the point of if you're really stuffing it like a Thanksgiving turkey, you should probably use the extra water option. However, it gets the job done no matter what. The direct drive is very powerful and in conjunction with the load sensing cycle, really pulls out the best performance. Maybe not an issue for some, but it plays a pleasant little tune when the load is done, instead of that annoying "brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrzzzzzttt" noise of other machines - a real plus if you're doing a delay load in the middle of the night and don't want to set the dogs a-howling or wake the baby. Speaking of both, it does amazingly well getting dog stink out and unmentionables clean smelling without having to resort to using detergents with heavy perfumes (we use HE Tide without dyes or perfumes and Borax prewash) a real bonus for those with sensitivity to detergent additives. The only low point would be the long cycle times for heavily soiled items, but for our family of 4, that really does not come into consideration as we're not always doing the heavy duty cleaning loads all the time. The footprint is exactly the same as our previous machine - a Kenmore 3.6 cubic front loader - the LG is just a little bit taller, but has twice the capacity. Would highly recommend to friends/family, especially if you get one on sale.

Good large family machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Generally, I love this washer. The steam function for household linens is useful; I was, however, disappointed that there's not just a steam cycle to use for some items that are not usually washed in a machine, i.e., jerseys. The hand-wash items cycle is great. It's pretty quiet and I expect many trouble-free years ahead. I didn't know this ahead of time but these HE washers tend to collect water. If it doesn't get drained, it smells. I've tried to drain it twice and both times I got water all over the floor. It could be a function of not sporting for the absurdly overpriced drawers underneath so that I don't have that gravity assist. Maybe with time I figure out the trick to avoid this.

Pays for itself.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After limping our 25-year-old Kenmore washer and dryer along for years, we decided to upgrade, so we purchased this washer and the matching dryer. I've never spent much time thinking about washers and dryers, but after having these installed, I'm amazed at how far the technology has come. This washer is super efficient, uses a tiny fraction of the water and electricity that my old washer did, cleans clothes much better and looks great. Best buy delivered and installed them for free, hooked them up in about 15 minutes and showed me the basic features. The attached energy guide shows a range of cost to run all washers and this one is the lowest cost to run of any. I figure it will pay for itself in energy savings several times over it's life. To top it off, a week later, I noticed Best Buy dropped the price to $679, which was $120 less than I had paid. I called them up and they refunded the difference with no hassle at all.

Excellent Washing Machine for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this washer (along with the gas dryer to match) about 3 weeks ago. I have been using it non-stop because it is so much better than our old stackable washer/dryer combo. The cycles are fast and there are lots of them. I haven't had issues with my clothes coming out soaked like some of the other reviews stated. If you put the spin speed high enough this should never be a problem. The greatest part about the spin speed is that the clothes come out almost dry! So the dryer cycle is even shorter than usual. The total time for a full load is about an hour, or less depending on the size of the load. Love this washer and would recommend it to everyone!

The best choice.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a very picky customer and after 2 months of research I finally found the right set . I have this w/d set about 2 months and very happy with performance. By adding the steam feature to cycles you are getting amazing results. I was able to sanitize(another great feature) up to 3 pillows, and dry up to 4 pillows! Kids cloths are coming out perfectly clean, good for comforters and blankets. We are a min. 4 loads per week household and the set is perfect for us. Very easy to operate even without manual, all you need is on board, simple steps to adjust to your preferences, and 9 cycles are more then enough, don't spend money on w/d set with more cycles that you definitely won't use.

Great technology!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought my old top loader got my clothes pretty clean, but this washer always produces clean, great smelling clothes! It spins them so dry that the dryer usually runs half the time it used to. I love the Allergiene cycle (steam) for smelly dog bedding and to wash towels to keep them smelling fresh. I run the tub clean cycle once per month and I ALWAYS wipe the door seals down after each wash, and it has remained very clean and not smelly. The only issue I have had is if I want to do another load after a load finishes, sometimes the washer will not power back on. This is remedied by unplugging it/replugging it to reset the computer I guess. I just ordered the matching dryer for this washer, and can't wait to have it installed!

Efficient and quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A friend of ours bought this machine a few years ago and it is going strong - we often went to their house when we needed to wash our comforter. So when our old Whirlpool washing machine died we knew what we wanted to buy. This washing machine is a little expensive, but it works great and is worth the price. We bought it with it's complementing Dryer and stacked them in the laundry room. This washing machine even came with its own hose.

Exceptional Washer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading many positive reviews online for LG washers and dryers, I decided to purchase a set. After using this washer for the first time, I was quite impressed to say the least. The entire operation from start to finish was almost silent (compared to my 6-year old Kenmore), and my laundry (including clothes and bedding) were thoroughly, yet gently cleaned using just the "right" amount of water. I used the "bulky/large" steam cycle setting for a comforter, which worked perfectly and as expected. Although there are so many options available on this washer to suit just about any situation, the controls are straightforward, intuitive, and easy to use. I also decided to purchase the pedestal for this washer, which I do not regret one bit. I highly recommend this washer to others who are extremely selective like me, and who are seeking one that is feature-packed, innovative, visually stunning, affordable, and reliable.

I am in LOVE with this washer!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love everything about this LG washer and dryer set!!!!! It takes a little longer to wash a load of clothes but I do not have to pre-treat stains any more. So that is fine with me. Drying is half the time as my old dryer. It plays songs when it is done and everything!!!! I am in love with this LG washer and dryer!!!! My only complaint is that it is really low to the ground and you need the pedestals for them. I am only 5"6 and after a couple of loads my back is sore. But I will not deduct a star for that because I do love these machines and they do an AWESOME job!!! Well worth the money!!!

Great steam dryer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this dryer for one month. I like the separate water container so no extra plumbing or hoses are needed. I use the steam frequently and have cut my ironing by 90%. I could not believe how well my sheets retained the fragrence of the fabric softner for days after using this washer and dryer. I am still trying the different cycles. One thing I didn't mention on the washer was the recommendation by Consumer's Report Aug 12 magazine on this set. Also, I did not mention the ability to manually set settings for most cycles on the washer and the dryer, this function was mandatory for my choice, I have had no vibration or movement of the dryer and I have washed/dried large mattress covers and large loads. Overall I am very pleased with the dryer [and washer] and recommended it to my neice and she bought the same set recently. I am also very pleased with my buying experience at Best Buy in Santa Clarita CA--Thanks Sandy

We just love this washer!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We just love our washer and dryer set. We got them for a great price. The steam cycle is everything they said it was. I always use it. I work at a bio-fuel plant, and the steam cleans my work clothes perfectly. Also, have a son that wets the bed. The steam cycle will make his laundry come out smelling fresh as a spring meadow! It is located on the top floor of my home and has absolutely no vibration when it spins. They outdid all expectations this time. My wife is excited to do laundry for the first time......ever. :)
