A great 4K player
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This 4K player really makes a difference! I bought this to go along with my new Vizio P-Series tv. The combination is fantastic! I've played 4K movies with HDR, 4K movies with Dolby Vision, and regular blu-ray movies. They all look great! The Dolby Vision movies are astounding! If someone wants a 4K player that doesn't have all the bells and whistles but does have an excellent picture this, this is the player for them. I'll admit that it doesn't have many extra frills, but I didn't need them, and the price was definitely right for me. If you want a 4K player that shows an excellent picture and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, this is the player for you. If you want one with all the bells and whistles, I'd say to look at another model.

Solid UHD 4K Blu-Ray Player

It has a clean and handsome design, the remote and all the controls are easy to use and operate, it has a good selection of ports, operates quietly, has both Wifi and ethernet, and supports the latest and greatest formats such as Dolby Vision, HDR10, Dolby Atmos, and DTS-HD. It is a solid multimedia player from LG. ======= Design & Useability ======= I find the design to be simple and clean which allows the UBK90 to fit in nicely with my other AV hardware. With 2 HDMI ports, an Optical Audio port, Wifi, ethernet, and USB, the connectivity options are sufficient. It's just too bad LG did not include a high-speed HDMI cable inside the box. The included remote, which looks dated and boring in design, works well regardless and I had no issues navigating around Settings and menus. My movie discs loaded quickly and operated quietly. I never heard a single peep from the UBK90. Connecting the UBK90 to my home Wifi network was painless & simple and it was just as easy to sign in to my YouTube and Netflix accounts. It would be nice if support for Amazon Prime Video and Hulu comes in the future through an update. Make it happen, LG~!! :D Overall, LG did a good job. ======= Video and Audio Quality ======= Just to test out the UBK90, I purchased the Ultra HD 4K Blu-Ray disc of John Wick and it was a great pleasure watching it on my UHD 4K Samsung TV with HDR and my Polk Audio Magnifi Max soundbar system. Video playback was buttery smooth and video quality was crisp, sharp, and showcased great contrast and colors. The audio, too, was excellent. I'm highly looking forward to watching more 4K UHD Blu-Ray movies with the family. ======= My Verdict ======= The LG UBK90 Blu-Ray player is a complete win. It exudes solid build quality, plays back high-quality video and audio, and operates effifiently and quietly.

Known problem for locking up, don’t buy

Had a first generation 4K player that kept locking up on 4K movies, thought I just got unlucky so I bought a new model two years later and the same thing happened on the very first movie froze halfway through 4K movie. LG knows about the problem and apparently isn’t concerned

Sad customer service

It took 2 visits to customer service before anyone realized it was never ordered. Cancelled. never backorder again or use that salesman.

Unhappy.

Spend your money elsewhere!

Also, the sound cuts out about every 5 minutes for a split second which is very annoying. Will be returning.

Don't waste your time

Not a dedicated HDR, upscales. Played HDR disks at 1080. Played disk part way through and stopped. Had to reset it and start over from beginning. Repeatedly. Would not recognize there is a disk present. Junk, don't bother. Took it back and got a better machine.

Great picture, but odd assortment of features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is a really great player! It has a near perfect picture and is very easy to use. One thing I really like about it that I haven't seen mentioned much in reviews: the texture of the outside of the player. It's really neat looking (almost looks woven) and is very attractive. Not sure how easy it will be to keep clean, but it looks really good. The player itself is easy enough to use, but the display is absolutely awful. It looks like something out of the late 90's and was a really strange decision on LG's part to design it this way. The remote is simple--a little small, but on the plus side it only requires one battery (!)--I don't think I've ever seen a remote like that before. On the downside there's no subtitle button, which is almost a must these days with disc player remotes. I've also never seen that on a remote before, even since the old basic DVD days. It's a drawback, but if you're getting the version with the included Logitech remote then none of this will matter. The connections are perfect--I love that there's an extra HDMI audio out--super convenient and not very common. Set up was pretty straight forward (once you get past the ugly menu)--I connected easily, downloaded updates and was on my way. The other really strange features are the "apps"--of which there are two: Netflix and Youtube. I've updated to the latest software version but there are not any more available. I don't get it, but I guess those are the two most popular out there and maybe that's all there was room for? Still, a bit disappointing if you were hoping to replace a Roku or something with this. I have not had a chance to try the Dolby Vision yet, as the range of TV's that support it is still fairly limited, but the HDR looks amazing on my Samsung QLED series TV. Overall this is a very good player with a few odd quirks and design choices. It excels at it's main function--having a great picture. It's practically a must-have if you own a Dolby Vision TV.

1st DOA, 2nd Started Acting Up

Replacement was very noisy and, after about 2-weeks, the eject would only work about half of the time. Returned. Very disappointed, as I had always had good luck with LG.
