This is a great phone for the money. Previously, I had a Moto G5S plus. The biggest thing I didn't like about that phone was the lack of notification light (commonly absent on Moto phones) so I was looking for a similarly-priced phone which did. Also one with a brighter screen for improved viewing outdoors. Enter the LG Stylo.
Before you continue reading, bear in mind this phone is less than half the price of a Note 9.
Having said that, this phone has many excellent features. The screen is pretty enormous - almost the entire face of the phone. It's definitely brighter than the Moto. Voice calls are quite good and plenty loud and clear. The speaker isn't as good as the Moto - definitely more tinny. In fact, I was quite surprised just how good the Moto's speaker was. So maybe it's just above average.
Camera is just OK. I don't really use my cell phone camera for much more than quick snapshots so I can't really say much more about it.
Now on to the stylus. There's an important distinction between this and the Samsung Note series. This phone's stylus is NOT an "active" stylus in the way the Note's is. A Note will give you a tiny little mouse pointer on the screen that tracks the tip of your stylus. On a website, this lets you hover over page elements just like you would do with a mouse. The Stylo, on the other hand, has a passive pointer that is similar to what you'd find on the end of a "stylus" pen with a big fat eraser looking thing. However, the tip is reasonably small and the screen is very responsive to it. You can write notes in a little note app that's included. But it's like writing with a Sharpie - not precise in the way the Note's stylus is. Still, useful enough for simple things. And tapping on small items on the screen does seem pretty accurate. So if the Note's stylus is a "10" I would rate this one like a "7".
Last thing to talk about is overall performance. It's just "okay". I think the Moto G5 was actually a little zippier. The Stylo seems sluggish sometimes when switching apps. Not bad enough to return the phone but, well, it is what it is for a phone of this price.
To sum up: Nice big display. Good voice call quality. Generally reliable. Stylus is pretty cool. Battery life is great. Doesn't have the "premium" feel that even the Note 4 did. But it's a LOT of phone for the money, and that's coming from someone who likes tech. But who also is thrifty. ;)
