Simple to set up, pretty much plug and play. Upscales BluRays/DVD's nicely and I recommend a quality HDMI cable as well, this player won't work well with a store brand (HDMI).

    NO DOLBY VISION

STILL NO DOLBY VISION! If you are buying this for Dolby Vision. DON'T!!!!! Wait a few months for new players to come out or save for the OPPO. I waited to buy this player until after the DV update was released only to find it was quickly pulled. As you can tell I am not happy about this. There is no timetable for a new update. The player is ok, slight buzz when playing disks but I can't hear it over the movie. Picture quality is pretty good, the HDR-10 looks really good. If you don't care about DV...I hear the Sony X800 is nice.

    Happy with my purchase

I have a 4K LG set (49") and soundbar with a Roku. Everything works together seamlessly and can be controlled with a single remote. The HDR picture from a 4K disc is outstanding. Not sure about the complaints of "only" Netflix and YouTube being available through the player. Both services, and many more, are easily available and easier to access through other means. Personally, I doubt I'd ever use a bluray player to watch either. Not sure what the big deal is, as far as I'm concerned both Netflix or YouTube are pointless extras for a bluray player of any kind.

4K is still new at the time of this review there's only 100 movies produce in 4K Blu-Ray. As most other brands rushed to be the first they don't have the same features as this LG UP970 some upscale to 4K which isn't the same as producing native 4K. What I like most about this player ability to stream Netflix and YouTube in 4K whereas other brands don't have that ability. I recommend this unit fully if your looking for the right player that's software upgradable.

Bought this to match my 65"LG 65UH8500 TV. So far I am very impressed with it. I was a little worried because of the reviews that I read stating it was loud. I have not had this issue. I have played 4k discs from Sony and other studios with no loud noise. On the box it said the player was manufactured in March 2017. It has Netflix and Youtube on it. I only use it for playing discs. It is connected to a 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos theater system and the sound is great!

    Average 4K Blu Ray Player

This is just a basic 4k Blu ray player, nothing fancy. Most people will buy this because it is cheap or goes with their LG 4K TV. (That's what I did.) 4K disks look amazing on it and upconverts 1080p blu-rays wonderfully. It does have an optical audio connection which is nice. Cons: - Feels and seems cheaply made - My picture would go in and out after about 2 weeks of ownership - HDMI CEC can't be turned off. (This causes your TV to randomly turn on or randomly switch you from what you are watching to the Blu-ray input, it's really annoying.) - I experienced some very minor audio lip sync lag. (I returned this and switched to the Sony version and am much happier now.)

Not too much not too little it's just right. Plays other formats from the USB. 4k Disc, regular Blu Ray disc and DVD. If you still have CDs I hope you got great speakers cause it produces great sound. Nothing to tell about the apps it's just Netflix and YouTube but thats all I use anyway so it's just right.

The LG UP970 is one of many 4k Blu-ray players that I'm just not sure are worth the price right now. The UP970 will play 4k Blu-ray movies, standard Blu-ray, DVD, and CD ROM. It offers 4k upscaling, and HDR,supports Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos. The players functions just as intended. The colors look great, the resolution looks amazing. But, I really can't tell the difference between a standard Blu-ray player. The player also supports your and Netflix but, honestly I'm not sure what the benefit is here since I can't think of any 4k tv that wouldn't already support these apps and more. The bottom line is, unless you are a serious cinema buff or have an extremely large TV that would take advantage of the increased resolution, I can't see this player being worth the price, given that there are far cheaper options.

    SIMPLE AND ELEGANT

Bought this along with a new LG OLED TV. Setup was simple and works flawlessly in an LG ecosystem. HDR playback is stunning and it plays my3D discs also. I also like the fact that there is no display on the front of the unit as I always found that distracting. It will also be able to play Dolby Vision discs of the future after an upcoming firmware update.

If you are looking for a good quality 4K Blu Ray Player, the LG UP970 provides very good picture quality. Where the device lacks is in the ability to make changes to the system. The menu is VERY simple for a $300 player. There are basically no settings to adjust for picture, apps, etc. The device does come loaded with two apps but I have not been able to find how to add more if its possible. Again, if all you want is a player that provides the screen resolution you would expect, then this player will do it. If you want a player that will give you more configuration options (which I would expect with a $300 player), then this may be a bit basic for you.

first thing I did was update the firmware to include Dolby Vision - and BOOM, the picture looks AWESOME on my OLED tv! Picked mine up as an open box for $119 and got the 4 year extended warranty too. No it does not have an LED display of any kind, but do you really need it? NO! Thank you LG for making a great, affordable 4k player!

After getting my 4K TV it seemed logical to look for a disc player to go along with it. LG TV and an LG 4K player. First off, there is very little you have to do to get up and running. Plug in the HDMI cable, plug it in, connect to the internet (wired or wireless) and you're ready to go. As with any device of this type the first thing I did was go online and check for an update. Took about three minutes and I was ready to play a disc. Bought a 4K movie today just for this purpose. The controls on the player are easy to use and the remote is straight forward. First thing I noticed was how quiet the drawer was when it opened. Put the disc in and a few seconds later the movie was playing. The 4K movie loaded faster than my regular Blu-Ray or even a standard DVD player. Picture quality was what you would expect from a 4K setup; crisp and clear! It does have Netflix and YouTube built in and I believe others can be uploaded at a later time. Overall it is a sleek, fast quiet operating machine that has excellent picture output. Well worth it!!

It does exactly what you'd expect from a Blu-ray player, with the added benefit of being able to stream from your favorite services. Setup is a snap and playback quality is excellent, especially with 4k content. I also like the simple menu, which includes options for playing a disc, or using an app for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, Pandora, and others. If you don't already have a streaming player and need a Blu-ray player, this is an excellent option, especially if you have a 4k TV.

Trust me, video is as good as sony's 4k bluray X800. I read x800 is as good as oppo 203 which is like $600. I tried 4k bluray discs, 1080p discs, and 3d discs. All looking great so far. New firmware update which enabled Youtube HDR saved me $80 which i almost purchased chromecast ultra for. Only downside is that there are much options, which in my case not needed w/ great video quality I get on my 65" oled E6.

Cons: Dealbreaker; makes so much noise while playing disks that it distracts from the movie, in all scenes, not just quiet ones. Loudest with UHD Blu-Ray disks, but noise level is unacceptable with ALL types of disks. Pros: Very crisp, clean, color saturated video output. Excellent audio output quality. Played all my disks, old & new, without any problems. Returned to store due to excessive noise.

    Lg 4K player

I bought this player shortly after it came out. It worked pretty good for a few months until all 4K blurays had a very loud buzz. I tried to reset it and update it and it did not help. So after sending it to lg and them fixing it and another problem that it would not eject discs or close when it was open, I got it back. Seemed ok for a few weeks until I would turn it on and it would go to a black screen. The remote wouldn't work and the buttons on the player itself did not work. I would have to unplug it 3 or 4 times until it would work. Now I have to send it back again and lg support has no interest in helping me. It's not even a year old and I am having to get it fixed 2 times. They will not refund my money, they will make me send it back every time it breaks. Do not waste your money on this junk.

    Still NO Dolby Vision

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Here in 2017, there were two options for a 4K BRD player that would output Dolby Vision: The expensive Oppo unit and the LG UP970, which LG claimed (and still claims) will support Dolby Vision with a future software update. It is now November and there is still no new update to support Dolby Vision. In late August, LG did put out an update for Dolby Vision support... then quietly removed that support with the next update. These units do not currently output Dolby Vision and LG doesn't have any timeline for when Dolby Vision will be supported again. If you're looking for Dolby Vision, look elsewhere or wait until CES next year for 2018 product announcements. Unless you need two HDMI outputs, I see no reason to buy the UP970 over the UP875 at this point. Also, the disc drive is incredibly loud.
