This portable Bluetooth speaker sounds amazing, has some cool unique features and lasts forever on a charge. Speakers like this are commonly available from just about every company, but this one really packs a punch with style and substance. Highlights: * Gets loud with great bass and clear sound. * Convenient local buttons including a custom Favorite button. * Handy elastic strap for carrying and hanging. * Waterproof, dust-proof and shock resistant. * Attractive lighting effects that aren’t gimmicky. * Useful app for adjusting settings. * Replaceable battery. * 6-Band Graphic EQ, AI Sound, etc. * Can share or link multiple speakers for a larger sound stage. Suggestions for Improvement: * Shortcut buttons are difficult to differentiate and read in low-light. * Be careful resting anything on top as it will likely rattle off. Setup: Starting with the unboxing experience, this speaker really shines. Open the box and you’re presented with the speaker, a USB-C to C cord (any will do, though), and a simple Getting Started guide printed on the inside of the lid. Plug the speaker in to a suitable USB-C power adapter and charge it up. There’s a small LED just above the USB-C port to indicate power and charging status but as usual, it’s kinda useless if you’re color blind as the difference between “charging” and “charged” is a slight color change. At least it will remind you that the speaker is on even if no sound is playing and no light show is going on. Inside the lid of the box are the basics of “turn it on” and “put in bluetooth pairing mode” along with two QR codes; one to get the free LG ThinQ app and one for a web page with helpful videos. While not necessary for anyone who has paired a bluetooth headset or speaker before, the setup videos available from the second QR code are actually helpful. They even show you how to change audio output for your device and how to swap out the battery when it no longer accepts a charge. Usage: Unlike many other speakers, just a simple tap of the power button will turn this speaker on or off rather than having to hold it for 3-5 seconds each time. Once on, a neat sound and lighting effect will play and it will reconnect to the last-used source. The light bar at the front lower edge is really nice. It’s used for both status and information as well as a visualization during playback. For example, tapping a volume button will represent the volume level with the length of the light bar. The buttons are really useful but they are a tad hard to see in dim light or from the side. There are discrete buttons for power, volume up and down, a single track control button, bluetooth pairing, linking for party or stereo mode, and the “favorites” button that can be customized in the app. The Favorite button can be set to specific music/audio sources or playlists, your desired sound mode, light mode, sleep timer, etc…all with a single button press. The Link button can be used to create a group of compatible LG speakers that all will share the same music. If you have two of the same model (xboom Bounce in this case), you can set them up as a stereo pair. While this speaker has good stereo sound on its own, you can really create a nice stereo effect with two of them. The usual multipoint pairing is available but this LG speaker has some nice tricks. It can do the usual connection of say your phone and your tablet, but you can also set it up to pair to multiple phones and each can “push” music to the speaker in sequence- fun if you’re with a group of people who all have music on their phones to share with the single speaker. The lighting and eq effects can be changed in the app or you can leave it up to the AI to set them based on what’s playing. The built-in microphone can be used for phone calls but it’s also used for AI sound optimization based on the environment around the speaker. For status feedback, you can choose from Sound Effects, Voice Guidance or neither. The voice isn’t bad, I liked the default setting of sound effects better. Enough with the features - let’s move on to the sound. This speaker has two front-firing tweeters and a center woofer with top-firing radiators that really shake with the beats. They move so much that you should be careful to not rest your phone on top of the speaker when it’s playing as it will likely be vibrated off and fall. The sound stage is clear and wide for a speaker of this size. You can also place the speaker on its back with the tweeters firing up for a wider sound in a group setting. I found the “standard” eq setting good but the “AI Sound” mode worked well for just about any genre I played. The lighting effects are subtle and fun. You can choose from various pre-set patterns, let it cycle between all of them, or let the AI adjust the pattern based on what’s playing. Feel free to take this speaker just about anywhere. While it won’t float, it will handle substantial water, dust and drops. An IP67 rating means that it can withstand complete immersion in up to 3 feet for water for 30 minutes without damage, and is completely sealed for dust. This all means that it should be safe at the beach, by the pool or in the yard during a heavy rainstorm. You can even hose it off or rinse it off in the sink if it gets dirty, sandy or salty. The elastic strap stores around the back and looks stylish. You can slide your hand behind it for extra grip while holding the speaker or switch it to the front and use it as a either a carry strap or as something to hang the speaker from. With nearly 30 hours of playback on a charge, this should last a full weekend at the beach between charges or several long days by the pool. At 3lbs of carry weight, it’s not something you want to keep on you, but it’s not so heavy that you wouldn’t want to take it with you to where you’re going. The base is suspended on two rubber discs to keep the speaker from vibrating whatever it’s sitting on. These discs have a bit of separation from each other so you just have to be aware of that when choosing a place to set it down. This speaker is ready for repair - once the battery stops holding a full charge, you can easily swap it out with a replacement battery. There’s a waterproof door on the bottom that comes off with four screws and then the battery can be swapped out with a new one rather than throwing out the whole speaker. Even the elastic strap can be swapped out when it no longer retains its shape. Hopefully LG will offer replacement parts for a long time as this speaker will keep you entertained for years to come. Overall, this portable sonic beast sounds great, looks great, is easy to carry, lasts a long time on a charge, and have some really cool and useful features via the app. It should be an awesome companion for wherever you go from the beach to the pool to the campsite, or anything in between.

Loud Boom of a Portable Speaker

With summer in full swing, I wanted to take full advantage of the backyard this summer with outdoor fun. One of those being listening to some tunes while out in the yard either working or playing. I went to pull out my old little Bluetooth speaker, only to find out it bit the dust. So might as well upgrade to something that has a lot more Boom while still being portable. So, I decided to pick up the LG xboom Bounce portable Bluetooth speaker. Pros: - LOUD and Quality Sound. - Easy to connect with. - Party Link allows multiple LG Speakers to pair together. Cons: - LG App requires filling out preferences to get to settings. - RBG lights are unnecessary. Setup: LG made it easy to connect with the xboom Bounce, even without the LG ThinQ app you can connect with the speaker to begin playing tunes. I like having the option to use the app or not, in case you want to share your speaker with someone at the party, they don’t have to download an app to share some music. App: So, I usually don’t mind installing the apps to gain access to additional features or settings that enhance the speaker. But in this case, I didn’t appreciate LG locking the settings behind a forced questionnaire about your uses for the speaker and music preferences. There was no skip or cancel, it would push you back out to the home page. This was not only annoying, the answers were then used to “feed” LG’s radio station list which I will probably never use as I’ve got my own paid services I already use. Otherwise, the LG ThinQ is a straightforward app with Sound Effect (EQ) settings, volume control, Lighting control and customization using the MyButton (<3). One of the cool parts of the Sound Effect feature is selecting AI Sound to adjust the EQ in Real-Time for the best sound regardless of what is playing. I found this convenient as I often switch between genre of music, so not having to swap the EQ is a huge plus. I did find the Lighting feature to be a bit much, I understand the appeal for RBG lights as a Gamer, but not everything needs to have RBG on it. Luckily, you can just turn that off in the app too, so off it went after the 2nd day of use. Sound: First thing I have to say is the LG xboom Bounce brings the BOOM! This speaker can get really loud, to the point where it starts to hurt. So be careful about using it in an enclosed space like the garage or a car. I found that 1/3 of max volume was more than enough for me to listen to my music while in the yard. If it was noisy such as a party or mowing the lawn, I could see having to go above the halfway point, but above 2/3 of max volume I was worried my neighbors would complain. SO great for large parties or events! Even at the higher volumes, the music didn’t distort, the sound was still very clear and high quality which was amazing. I’m very impressed with the sound volume and quality of the xboom Bounce. Plus, if you have multiple you can pair them together using the Party Link feature in the app to have them play in sync. This could be a quick and easy way to setup a room or event with music without needing huge speakers and a bunch of cables. Buttons: Like most portable Bluetooth speakers, there are standard buttons on top to help control and connect to the device: Power, Volume Down, Volume Up, Play/Pause, Bluetooth, Party Link, and MyButton. The only 2 that are not standard are Party Link which allows you to sync up multiple LG xboom speakers and MyButton allows for quick actions like playing a specific playlist. But since I mostly stream my music from a third-party app like Amazon Music or Spotify, I didn’t find this all that useful. Battery Life: The xboom Bounce can play for up to 30 hours, which has been plenty of time for my 3-5 hours of use a day. I’ve only charged once since I got the speaker, and still have 40% battery left. The initial charge took about 2 hours, though the speaker was partially charged when I took it out of the box. Charge time will vary based on the charger used, as one is not included with the speaker. Features: The LG xBoom is the perfect outdoor speaker with a IP67 dust and water resistance rating, even if it gets a little wet from rain or splash from a hose the speaker will keep on booming. This is important for any portable speaker as on the go there is always the change of being dropped or spilled on, specially at parties outside. The speaker can act as a portable power bank when on the go, which allows you or anyone with you to charge up their devices. There is a built-in microphone that allows you to take calls using the speaker for both output and input. I found the microphone built into the speaker worked well enough when I was within arms reach of the speaker, but once I got a bit further away it became harder for the caller to hear me. I expected this to be an issue, but for a quick call it works fine. Conclusion: If you need a portable speaker that will bring the BOOM, then the LG xboom Bounce is a perfect portable speaker. With the simple design and straightforward controls, connecting and playing music is easy. The volume and audio clarity is amazing for a portable speaker, which with the IP67 rating is ready for any outdoor party. I’ll be taking the LG xboom Bounce with me this summer and adding it to my list of recommended portable speakers.

    X(tra)Boom When You Need It

The xboom bounce is the ideal size for a portable speaker in my humble opinion. At this size, it's large enough for LG to pack in dual tweeters, a larger woofer and over 30 hours of battery life. This setup gives you a full sound stage for days depending on use. SOUND: The bass is impressively punchy for a speaker of this size, and the dual tweeters deliver crisp vocals even at higher volumes. I didn’t notice much distortion when pushing the XBOOM Bounce to its limits, though the bass can fall flat at lower volumes. As for the preset sound profiles, I found the listening experience more enjoyable after taking a few minutes to customize my own - I couldn’t quite get the punch I wanted from the “Bass Boost” setting. The XBOOM does include AI features that automatically adjust sound profiles on the fly, but I didn’t notice much improvement and ended up relying on my custom profile more often than not. I’d love to see the EQ settings behind each preset mode to use as a baseline for customization, but I imagine the provided options will be more than enough for most users. BUILD: LG always does a great job in this department. The speaker is IP67 water and dust resistant, so take it to the beach, toss it by the pool, or rinse it off if you drop your ice cream on it - just don’t submerge it in more than 3 feet of water for over 30 minutes and you’re good. The one design drawback for me is the elastic strap. Its utility doesn’t really make sense - I get that you can wedge your hand through it for a better grip or flip it to carry like a bag. Both sound great in theory, but let’s be real: the strap will stretch out over time and end up more annoying than helpful once it starts flopping around. I’d spring for a smaller speaker if you’re planning to carry this around all the time. Personally, I’ll just toss it in a beach bag or backpack when I’m on the go. FEATURES: The sound, battery life, ability to charge your phone and water resistance are by far the greatest strengths for the xboom. Everything else like Auracast, AI lighting and linking multiple speakers are nice to have features but don't add a ton of value in my opinion. Typically, when I bust out portable speaker, my buddy Bob isn't whipping out his xboom to sync up and rock out. I'm also not known as the guy carrying around 4 xboom speakers ready to bask in surround sound. The xboom covers what really counts and that's charing my phone in a pinch, having battery life when I forgot to charge it and blastingt great sounding music that makes my friends ask where I bought it. CONCLUSION: The xboom Bounce excels where it matters most in my book. It's defiantly worth picking up and it may be the best speaker I've had at this size and in price range. It's portable enough to take with you when you're on the go but sleek enough to leave it out to enjoy with company.

Clear, Room-filling Sound and Vocal Projection

For the last week, I've been testing the LG Xboom Bounce portable speaker. Overall, it is a good product, especially if you prefer clear, room-filling sound and vocal projection. The bass, on the other hand, is acceptable but lacking when reproducing bass-heavy music. The Xboom bounce has a unique, eye-catching design. On top are the speaker controls and two passive radiators, and in the front are two small dome tweeters, a woofer, and a vibrant gradient light strip that moves with the beat. The back is very spartan, housing the USB-C charging port and the elastic carry strap. It's lightweight, and the nylon mesh covering along with the metal carry strap hinges make the Bounce feel premium. However, the carry strap is already starting to show signs of lost elasticity. As for performance, the Xboom Bounce gets loud enough to fill a large room or an outside deck with vibrant sound. A key feature of this speaker is its capability to phenomenally project voices. Therefore, if you like music that features vocal ranges, such as Soul, Jazz, Acapella, Country, or Pop, I'm certain you will like this speaker. However, if you prefer something like Drum and Bass, Hip-hop, or Techno, you might be disappointed by the speaker's limited bass production. To be clear, I am not saying it is bad; it is just missing some oomph. Bluetooth performs well and pairs rapidly. I was also able to pair two devices simultaneously and be more than 30 feet away from the speaker before it began to stutter. Battery life is outstanding. I played this speaker at about 75% volume for over 10 hours and when I was done, I still had 47% battery left over. With that said, this is a very nice product, and I would recommend it .

Good Sound & Good App Support

TLDR: The LG XBoom has good sound for such a small package. But the sound deteriorates quickly if you get too far above or below its horizontal plane. PROS IP67 Rated against dust and water Military 810H Standard Rated Room filling sound in a small package Up to 30hrs of playback Automatic Room Calibration CONS Audio quality drops off sharply along a vertical axis Rubber pads on bottom of speaker feel unstable SETUP & CONFIGURATION Usually, I am not a big fan of a universal, one-size-fits-all app. However, LG has done a decent job with the ThinQ app. It is logically designed and intuitive. Anyone that has purchased an LG product in the past few years has most likely had experience with the ThinQ app. It places all your LG smart devices under one app. Like I said, I usually prefer an app dedicated to a particular function or product line. But I give LG credit for making an app that bridges products from multiple product lines under one, easy to use app. USE The Bounce has 2 soft-dome tweeters paired with a “racetrack” shaped active woofer on the front of the box. On top, are 2 passive bass radiators coupled to that woofer. The LG XBoom Bounce packs a punch in a small package. Placing it in my 3-car garage, I was able to fill the entire space with room filling sound while only using about ½ the total volume. The Bounce produces clean, crisp sound that sounds much larger and fuller than a speaker this size should produce. I applaud LG’s use of those Peerless soft-dome tweeters, as these can immediately make or break a product. The Bounce’s tweeters offer a great balance of high frequency detail without sounding harsh and tinny. The Bounce has subtle and restrained lighting. Not over the top and obnoxious. Just enough to add a little sparkle without being brash. I admire LG’s restraint. The lighting can be linked to voice, set to party mode, or just for ambience. LG’s restraint has paid dividends in my book. The LG XBoom Bounce sports up to 30hrs of playback time and can also be used to charge your portable device in a pinch. After many hours of listening, I find 20 – 30hrs is achievable. Recharging is accomplished with a simple USB-C connection. I wish all manufacturers made the switch to USB-C. It would make things so much simpler. NEGATIVES The biggest drawback of the XBoom Bounce is its off-axis audio deterioration. It’s not an issue along is horizontal plane, or even several degrees above and below the speaker. However, sit the speaker on your desk or in my case, my workbench, and walk up on the speaker and the sound quality rapidly deteriorates. Sound becomes muddy and distorted as the passive radiators overpower the front firing drivers. The vertical audio dispersion of the tweeters is very limited. But, if you place the speaker approximately chest height and walk away a few feet, this issue becomes irrelevant. However, I have found that I need to angle the Bounce toward my ears while sitting at a desk to achieve the best soundstage. FINAL THOUGHTS It has passed 7 Military 810H Standards tests and is IP67 rated against dust and water. This should ensure the Bounce lives a long and healthy life even in the harshest environments. The LG XBoom Bounce is a great, little Bluetooth speaker from LG. It offers decent bass for its size thanks to a “racetrack” shaped woofer and 2 passive radiators. The soft-dome tweeters produce clear highs without sounding harsh and tinny like lesser models. The XBoom Bounce is a good speaker that has a lot to offer. It can easily fill a room with full-bodied sound. RECOMMENDED

LOTS OF SOUND OUT OF A SMALL PACKAGE

The LG xboom Bounce has been a great addition to my listening experience. I have recently taken up fishing and sometime while out waiting on river, waiting on the fish to bite it’s nice to listen to some of my favorite music. As you know it’s not always easy to predict mother nature. So, to prevent the fatal mishap or water ruining another electronic, I went with the xboom. Set up of the LG xboom Bounce is really easy. The first thing I did was plug the speaker up and then allowed it to charge completely. While charging, I downloaded the LG ThinQ app and once my speaker was fully charged, I linked it to my cellphone. Once linked I had many different controls that I was able to access via my phone. Once linked to the speaker and with the app fired up, I was able to see all the features offered. The app offered feathers such as sound effect, which allows you the ability to set up the sound that you desire. I was able to manipulate the volume from 0-30 which at volume 30 the music is still crispy clear. I was also able to play with the lights on the speaker and make them do different things and even change the colors. The sound produced by this little speaker is amazing. I listen to a plethora of different genres of music and I tell you that this speaker holds its own. There’s not one song that I played that didn’t sound pleasing to my ears. It never once sounded over or under powered. I never got even a hint of distortion or any other unwanted tones. All in all it plays music really well and is a treat to listen to. So far this little speaker has proven itself as durable. It has an elastic strap across the back of it that makes carrying it very convenient and comfortable. It’s compact size makes it easy to take along and with a full charge I have yet to run out to battery power during my outing. I have really grown to like this little speaker and I do plan to add more of these speakers in the very near future due to the ability to link multiple together. So if you’re on the fence about getting one, don’t hesitate go ahead and pick one up. You won’t be disappointed.

The LGX boom portable speaker is a decent speaker for what it is. The size and portability are really nice. The form factor and style look very high-end. Sound quality for size is very good until you hit the the mid to top end of the volume when the high end of the EQ starts to distort. HoweverIt offers very good bass and mids. Using the ThinQ App for set up was very easy most of the controls for the Speaker using it are very intuitive. The “my button” portion of the app, however, is a little glitchy in that there are portions of it that do not function for the speaker even though the video manual shows it working I was not able to get the lighting or “Other contents“ parts of that specific button to work at all. The rest of the speaker worked fine. A lighting is really cool that offers a multitude of different options for you to play with and customize to your liking the AI customization for sound quality is really nice when you have a specific room you want to customize the sound for so that you’re not tweaking the EQ manually. Overall, this speaker produces a massive amount of sound for its size even with the distortion of the high-end louder volumes. It’s not unusable.

Good overall speaker, but room for improvement

Good overall speaker, but room for improvement in design and sound. This speaker does have app support, but it's not the same app as has been used in previous LG speakers. I'm actually not a fan of this new app at all. It does offer EQ adjustment and you can go in a custom design the EQ you prefer, but I would still recommend using a 3rd party app to get better fine tuning on how your sound will deliver the desired performance. The speaker design is a bit odd. There are two passive radiators, but they sit on top of the speaker. This goes against the more traditional passive radiators on the ends of speakers, or located on the back. I personally don't care for the top located passive radiators and think that placement detracts a bit from their desired effect. The strap that does around the back, thought against the speaker body is also an odd design. I would prefer a more traditional strap located on top, but that's not a deal breaker. Overall the speaker sounds pretty clean and detailed. The bass won't wow you, but it's solid enough. The speaker doesn't distort and will get fairly loud for it's size. Price is on the high end for this size speaker, but there will always be sales from time to time.

Contents The xboom Bounce doesn’t come with many separate parts. There’s a built-in hand strap already attached to the speaker. Other than that you get an approximate 30” USB-C to USB-C cord and some extremely minimalistic instructions. Those instructions have QR codes that take you to the LG ThinQ app or other inadequate instructions. Also, to note, it’s a product that doesn’t come with a power block. It requires a certain 5V / 3A AC adapter to charge it, but LG doesn’t provide that. I’m sure that there will be people who don’t use the correct charging components and wonder why it takes a long time or doesn’t want to charge at all. Setup There’s not much to getting the speaker up and running. First, you need to charge it. Second, it’s a typical Bluetooth connection. You can use it with just the Bluetooth connection or you can also download the LG ThinQ app to control additional settings. I already had the ThinQ app on my phone since I own several LG appliances, so I just added the speaker to my LG products. The addition of the speaker to the app is one of the places where the instructions weren’t great. It wasn’t hard to figure out though. The App The LG ThinQ app lets you change some of the EQ settings such as using the preset Bass Boost. It also lets you control the lighting effects on the front side of the speaker. One of the nicest surprises is that there’s also a content section where you can find and stream content directly from the ThinQ app. There’s a nice feature in the app where you can join multiple LG xboom speakers together and play the same thing over multiple devices simultaneously. That feature is called Party Link. I did see an error in the app while adding the xboom to my LG products. At one point it tries to determine your location to present local streaming options. It asks what city you are in, but the options to select are all states. Just something odd that LG should correct. Manual Controls There are some buttons on the top of the speaker. It lets you control the basics without your phone. Things like power, volume, play and pause, and Bluetooth connection are accessible from the top. Sound Quality The most important feature of a portable speaker to me is the sound quality. After all, it’s a speaker so that’s what the main purpose is. My impression was that the sound quality was just eh. It’s not super clear or particularly impressive. It has a bass boost, but the bass seems really mild. Nothing really exceptional here. While it can get pretty loud, the sound quality at higher levels isn’t great. I found the overall sound quality to be pretty bright. One area where I think this would work well is for low volume situations like sitting at a patio table with the speaker near and kept at a lower volume. I really didn’t hear much of a difference in this versus some of the first portable speakers that came out over a decade ago. Lights The lights must be controlled from the ThinQ app. You need to have the app installed to control all of the light settings. If you do not want the lights on, you can turn them off completely. The lights themselves are only on the front of the speaker and they are bright. There a 7 motion modes to choose from. You can have the speaker cycle through them if you want. Color selections seemed very limited. Out of the 7 motions, there were only 2 that allowed you to select the color from a color wheel. The others let you generally choose from 4 choices. There are no still (non-moving) color selections. And the oddest thing to me is that red really wasn’t an offered choice unless you went to the color wheel. Seems like that would be the first option matching the colors of the speaker. Other Features • IP67 Dust and Water Resistant. This should help longevity. • Can use the speaker as a speaker phone with your cell phone. I didn’t test this as I wasn’t interested in using it for this. • Charge Your Phone – You can use the speaker to charge your cell phone. For reference, it was going to take 52 minutes to full charge my Samsung S23 Ultra that was at 62% charge. Overall I am giving the LG xboom Bounce 3 stars. The sound quality isn’t really that special, especially at higher volumes. With a label of xboom I expected there to be more bass. The lighting features seem to be lacking in color choices. I don’t feel that I would recommend this product compared to others available at this price point.

To briefly sum up my thoughts, this speaker is well-built, sounds good, and should appeal to most people. It is quite compact and is a good weight. Heavy enough to have a good feel in the hand, but not so much that you would give a thought to taking it around with you. Along those same lines, the build is quite good. Solid. It has the fairly standard IP67 rating and apparently passed some military endurance tests as well. I have no worries about damaging it. Buttons are what you would expect and work well. The handle/carry strap is a bit of a unique design, but also works well…although this could be the one thing that gives me pause after prolonged use. Maybe not, but just something to note. Briefly, while I suppose it has a pretty typical “speaker look,” if I am being honest, I don’t really like the styling. I don’t know if it is the strap, strap mounts, rubber feet, or something, but it just doesn’t appeal to me, which is strange because it is rather plain looking, That is usually my thing. Of course, this is a personal thing, so take that for what it is worth. I will add that I also am not normally a fan of RGB type lighting on my devices, but I do like how LG has done it here. It is pretty minimal and clean. Of course, any use will decrease battery life, which I have found to be as rated and very good. Getting connected has been easy, quick, and consistent. As I mentioned above, the buttons work well, and control of the unit is simple. As with everything these days, there is an app where you can also control things, as well as dig a little deeper into settings and get updates. Frankly, I don’t really love the app, but it serves it purpose. As for sound, I found that it not only sounded very good but got quite loud and had some carry. Sound was clean across the board, and i haven’t really experienced any distortion to this point. Really, my only really “dig,” if it is one, is the low end may be a little light. Bass is clean, and it is there, but maybe just a tick missing. I didn’t really notice it much with most things but did in some genre specific cases (hip hop and electronic). Again, it is there, and good, and this could be a personal thing for me, but I just felt I should mention it. Further, there are a few little “extra” features that may or may not be important to you, but I thought were nice to see. There are some casting options that allow you to stream to multiple devices. You can answer incoming calls via the speaker. Lastly, if you find yourself in a pinch, you can use the speaker as a power bank to charge your phone. Again, how useful, I am not sure, but any additional functionality is a nice add to me. Ultimately, I like this speaker. For the reasons I mentioned above. I think for all that you get, for the price, there is definite value here.

With LG’s latest speaker refresh, the Bounce comes between the entry-level grab and the flagship stage 301 in the xboom lineup. All three are part of a collaboration with Will.I.Am to provide the next generation of sound. Setup and connecting to my phone was as expected and without issue. I already had the LG Thin Q app and it found the Bounce as soon as it was connected. You don’t need the app to connect but the app is the only way to control some of the features and firmware updates along with equalizer settings, including the AI setting. The Bounce arrived with about 60% charge and it took just over an hour to bring it back to 100%. It is rated for 30 hours play time and three hours to charge to full. I like that the USB C charge port is two-way meaning you can also use the Bounce as a battery bank to charge up your phone if needed. The Bounce has the normal set of buttons on the top, power, volume control, play/pause, bluetooth connect, auracastt and the “My” function which lets you select a play list and volume level. It also has an elastic carry strap. I don't care for this kind of strap as it will inevitably stretch and lose it's shape. The device is IP67 rated and claims military ruggedness so you don't have to worry about taking it outside and it getting wet or falling in the pool. Sound wise, I set the equalizer to AI and it sounded great to me. Lots of thumping bass from the dual passive radiators and nice mids and highs from stereo tweeters. It seems clear this was designed to play loud. The sound really starts to shine when the volume gets to about half way (15 out of 30). While all genres sound good, it seems to excel at rock and dance music. Volume wise, this little speaker will get loud enough for a backyard party or fun day at the beach. There is a small light bar at the bottom for ambient lighting. This is more of a design aesthetic than functional lighting. There are several settings for your mood to choose from. The lighting on the Bounce reacts to sound better than most other speakers I have. Overall I’m impressed with the LG xboom Bounce.

I haven't really thought about LG in the audio department in a while now. I remember they had those neckband earbuds and a speaker lineup a few years ago but I didn't know they still made audio products. This Speaker is pretty great though. I have a few issues with it but nothing ground breaking. This like most speakers have a companion app you can find on Apple's App store or Google Play store. It works easily with the app. You can control the light on the bottom of the speaker, update the Speaker firmware and control the EQ of the speaker. You can manually control it or there is a few presets as well. Supports AAC and the SBC Codec's that's it. I wish it would of supported LDAC or APT X but this speaker sounds good anyways. I do think it lacks the punchy bass but it still sounds good as well. I find the battery life to be on par with other speakers in this size as well. Lasted over 5 hours which is good enough for me. I do put it above 50% loudness and have the light on and if the speaker lasts more than 5 hours for me its good enough in general.

    Nice, Stylish Speaker w/'MEH' App

TLDR: If you are looking for a nice, stylish speaker with a surpassingly comfortable 'handle', then this is your speaker. App is a bit 'meh' for controls, but if you do not have a lot of subscription based content or content of your own, it may actually be worth it for that too. I have content coming out of my ears so it was a bit much. The LG xboom Bounce is a nice, compact, speaker that puts out some great sound and does it with some style. The strap handle looks really kinda neat and different when it is 'stowed' but it makes for a comfortable way to tote the speaker around, though I am a *tad* concerned about it getting stretched out if I use it too much as a handle. Pairing and controls are easy to use even without the app so you can forget about that if you don't need it because the controls offered in the app for the actual speaker are just OK. I only used it for changing the lighting set-up, which is so sedate on this thing, it really isn't an issue either way. If you do use the app, it asks you a bunch of questions about your music and podcast tastes and then it gives you a rather impressive amount of music and podcast through LG Radio+. If you don't already have a myriad of owned or subscription based content like I do, this actually may be a great thing for you, but I'm already paying for those others, so I'm gonna use them! BTW, this Bounce does not have a ton of bass but you CAN boost those passive radiators by placing the speaker on a table or shelf that has some 'give' (in other words, NOT a granite counter), and that can help boost the 'boom'. Even without that, the Bounce provides decent bass for on the go, but nothin that will be 'trunk rattling'. For the price, the xboom Bounce is a great speaker for all your music needs!

Finding a good portable speaker can be a challenge, especially if you are like me and want to make sure the sound is "rich" with good bass. I am very happy with this speaker in that regard. I wouldn't necessarily refer to the sound as "high fidelity," mind you, but for taking the speaker on the road to places without convenient power, it works very well. To begin, the speaker works with LG's ThinQ smartphone app, which is a "one stop shop" for all your LG devices. When I first paired the speaker (which was a very simple process), the app prompted me to update the firmware in the speaker (which was also an easy process). There are some settings that allow for a small amount of customization with the speaker, such as various sound effects (I chose the AI one) and turning the LED on or off. Along those lines, the LED is a nice feature, but it appears to only display shades of red, pink, and purple (plus white, but I wouldn't call white a "shade" of any color). I would have appreciated a broader color spectrum and the ability to customize those colors. (The LED is either on or off... I think it reacts to the music, but it is a little sketchy at that and there are no options to customize it.) The app can interface with other apps on your phone, but I found it easier, once the speaker is set up, to simply play through my native music app and stream to the speaker via bluetooth. The speaker itself has some good heft and the woofers on the top definitely do help with bass production. The speaker gets pretty loud when used inside. Outside, I guess it depends on the environment and how far away you plan on being from the speaker. The speaker also has a unique feature that allows it to be synced with other similar speakers to provide a stereo or more immersive environment. I was not able to test that out, however, as I only have the single speaker. There is an elastic strap that runs along the back of the speaker. I guess it kind of helps a little bit with carrying the speaker and, if you are setting it down on a suitcase with a handle, it would stay secured. I am not quite sure how much utility the strap provides in normal use, though. Still, it is out of the way and snug against the housing, so it is not intrusive. I have not really stressed the speaker yet, but the battery life seems pretty good and it recharges via USB-C, so it's pretty universal in that regard. Ultimately, if I was allowed to give half stars, I would probably give a 4.5 rating given the lack of customization options with the LEDs and the fact that the sound can be a little "muddy" for my tastes. Still, the positives associated with the speaker outweighs the negatives in that regard, so I rounded up to a five-star rating. When working out in my garage, it definitely does the job!

Sound Quality: The sound is solid — clear, well-balanced, and surprisingly full for the speaker’s size. Whether you’re indoors or outside, it holds up well with minimal distortion even at higher volumes. Bass is punchy but not overwhelming, and mids and highs come through crisp. However, it’s a directional speak so if you are facing it from behind you cant hear it that much. For casual listening, it's more than enough. Build & Design: The build quality feels premium. It has a good weight to it — not too light to feel cheap, but not so heavy that it’s a burden to carry around. It feels sturdy in the hand, like it could handle a few bumps. The overall design is sleek and modern. The aesthetic might not be for everyone, but I personally think it looks cool and stands out a bit from the usual generic speaker look. Portability: The strap is a nice touch. It’s functional and makes it easy to carry, especially if you're moving around or heading outdoors. Definitely a thoughtful addition for anyone on the go. Overall: Great sound, solid construction, and convenient to carry. For a week in, I’d say it hits a sweet spot between performance and portability — a solid buy for anyone needing a reliable Bluetooth speaker.
