I first purchased this two years ago as something of an impulse purchase in store but was VERY happy with it. Set up was a bit more frustrating than it should have been, but the final result was stunning (see photo), and Alexa integration was seamless. The app is also very useful.
The problem: this particular bulb died just after the warranty expired (vice the 20+ years they advertise). So a couple of weeks ago I ordered a new one--which didn't work right from the get-go (randomly cycling on and off of its own accord). I sent an email to LIFX support and, after 5 days, received a "sorry, we're working on it" response.
I returned it today and ordered a replacement because (a) the original bulb was great while it lasted, (b) I have another A19 (non-IR) LIFX bulb which has worked fine, and (c) I'm an optimist and hope that I've just had really bad luck.
Nevertheless, 2 failures out of 3 bulbs in not reassuring, nor is LIFX's rather laggard response. I may update this review based on bulb 4 and what LIFX says when they finally get back to me. But in the meantime, buyer bewitched, buyer beware!

After buying an Apple HomePod, I picked up the LIFX + A19 Wi-Fi LED Smartbulb - Multicolor and Infrared put it in a contemporary lamp. It's nice to be able to say, "Hey Siri, turn on/off the bedroom light," from the comfort of my bed without messing with any switches. The technology was very easy to set up and has worked well. Fun to set different colors/moods (see images). My only complaint is that I would like to see more powerful "room filling" light (diffused light). This is LIFX's highest power light at 1100 lumens and I'd like something that lights the room more fully. Not sure I needed the infrared which is more helpful for outdoor locations where one might use a security camera. Bought a second smart bulb (same one without the Infrared) to replace a 1500 watt compact fluorescent bulb (CFL) and it provides much less lighting for the room than the former. Researched the limitations of LEDs:
LED, which stands for "light-emitting diode," is a lighting technology that is long-lasting and extremely energy-efficient, but they're not ready to supplant all other bulbs yet. For one, they provide only directional light, not diffused light, making them ideal for under-counter task lighting, but not general room illumination. To overcome this, new models consist of large arrays of LEDs clustered together, but at prices from five to six times higher than CFLs, the bulbs are not for everybody.

LifX products are BY FAR the most vibrant color bulbs on the market. I have several other brands of color lighting (i.e. Hue and others). Hue are ok but absolutely dull compared to LifX. Hue does have LifX beat in reliability though. Hue are set and forget with little interaction after setting up. They just work and work all the time. LifX on the other hand need a little more interaction because the have more complex internals (i.e. IP hardware). I have Hue as my normal non color bulbs (about 20 bulbs throughout the house). The negative (and a positive) aspect of Hue is it needs a bridge device (comes with in a kit or separate) but that is why its so reliable. Both these brands works with Samsung console and Amazon Alexa. As stated, LifX has a wireless IP connection built into the bulb itself (no bridge required). The setup is easy on bot, but LifX needs a little more maintenance as you have to re-connect the bulb to your wifi about 3 or 4 times a year. Not too bad, but LifX are totally worth the occasional extra effort due to their incredible and very bright colors. I think that is mostly for those bulbs that are on the out fringes of your Wifi reception. Another benefit of the LifX is they are very configurable. There is a very nice free LifX app that allows you to have special effects that synchronize between ALL your bulbs. Really cool feature. One of my favorite third party iPhone app is a $2.00 app that simulates rain and lightning... this is a dark blue interactive and changing hue with bright white strobes of lighting on multiple bulbs at the same time triggered by external sound that your iPhone microphone picks up. I set this up as I play a games on PS4. In call of duty, there is are a couple boards that have lightning scenes... every time it lightnings on the game, my LifX system picks up that sound and lightings on the LifX system of bulbs... the whole game room lights up... very very cool. The other feature that you can do in the free LifX app is simulate TV lighting. This is handy when you go on vacation. You can have it turn on and off at a certain time and it looks like someone is watching TV in a room. Similarly, you can schedule lights to come on or off with the Hue when your on vacation. You can also turn on and off remotely with your phone. Combined with a cameras like Arlo, Circle Cam and Ring, with a security monitoring system with SimpliSafe - this all makes an incredible home security solution even fort knox would be jealous of. All of these components can be purchased at Best Buy. Highly highly recommend purchasing them from Best Buy... consider the 2 year warrantee...if taken a few back probably due to power surges and brown outs. ... ok... back to Lifx... The LifX strip lights are in my onion the coolest. They can have simulated motion and other effects. Great to put on top of your kitchen cabinets... Christmas parties - Green and Red effects... St. Patricks day - Green lighting... 4th of July - Red, white and blue... NFL team colors... High School colors before a friday night game... endless uses. All in all, I have about 14 LifeX bulbs and 4 light strips (9' each). 2 of those bulbs I have outdoors (the floodlight LifeX bulbs) and have been working flawlessly for 2 years. I also have several that have the night time infrared option. These make a huge difference with my Arlo, Ring, Logi Circle system as they can see in the pitch darkness like its daylight. All in all, you need to make a choice of which bulb "eco system" you want and what application. In my case I went with both LifeX (color) and Hue (plane old white bulbs) because they have different applications. For general use in lamps and house lighting, I want something that is reliable and always works flawlessly. That would be the Hue. For fun stuff and my game room I wanted the brightest most vibrant color bulbs with tons of effects. That would be the Lifx. Lastly, if you have a vacation house that you would like to monitor from afar, the ATT mobile cellular router combined with Simlisafe, a few LifX bulbs and some Ring cameras makes a very inexpensive security system to check on things when you can't physically be at your other home. All of this you can purchase at Best Buy (in my opinion the best on only store to buy electronics)... and no - I do not work for Best Buy or have an unusually large amount of stock. Note: wrote this in a hurry and did not have time to proofread... my apologies for any grammar mistakes.

I researched smart lights for a bit before and found that if you don't want to spend an extra 100$ on some stupid kit that the other brands require in order to use them, then Lifx is the lights you want.
Rather than using some expensive kit set that requires extensive setup, Lifx is plug in and go with any WiFi network. Every light can be grouped into areas using the App and everything is straight forward set up at a cheaper price. Just screw it in and go through the walk through on the app. NO APPLE Garbage to buy, no Google required just a free light fixture and your PC iPhone or Android. You can adjust lights abroad and set schedules or smart schedules to follow the flow of time. Definitely a smart light worth investing in without the hassle of installing some useless kit that's required by other brands.

This bulb was my first move into LifX products. With the inclusion of IR, it offered something none of my Hue bulbs did.
The color range and brightness are fantastic. I have it mounted behind my aquarium and use the various colors to show when I've missed a call from a specific number (and to show what the outside temperature is first thing in the morning).
I'm only giving 4 stars because of the very high price. For the price, it certainly meets my standards, but it hardly exceeds them.

So far this light has been everything I expected. It works flawlessly.. I've had it about 4 months now and has always stayed connected to the wifi network. The light is as bright as a 60 watt bulb and the colors are brilliant. Setting it up was a breeze and using it with Alexa is also very simple. It's great that you can not only turn it on and off with Alexa, but also control color and brightness too. I'm extremely happy with this purchase though do wish they were a bit cheaper.

This light bulb works great. Being able to turn lights on and off from just about anywhere (in the world), is great. The wide selection of colors and intensities allows one to set the mood for just about any event/mood. The Android app works very well, and is fairly intuitive. I do wish this item was just a bit less expensive though.

HomeKit integration smoothness, an exceptionally bright bulb, and no-hub needed. Win-Win. The LIFX App is great, too. We wanted two VERY bright bulbs for our living room that we could turn up brightly "when needed" (which isn't often). But if we're doing a puzzle, or cleaning, or reading, it's nice to have that extra "oomph". Day to day, we use them around 75% - but turning it up to "11" is wonderful. The color spectrum is amazing. And the HomeKit stuff is really quite good (and keeps getting better). I have a very early LIFX that had lots of troubles connecting to HomeKit (and even their own app) and they keep upgrading the firmware to address issues. Although expensive, they are worth it. I haven't had a reason to use the infrared yet; but I can see its value if I had a security cam inside that room (not yet).

Bought this the replace a standard bulb on our porch.Looked first at the Phillps Hue bulbs, but did not have a spot for a hub and this was going to be outside. Setup was extremely easy, screw in the bulb, download the app, flip the light switch and connect via app to the bulb, once connected you set anything on the bulb you want, change to whatever color, hue, brightness, shade you want. Set a schedule, add an effect (cant wait for the next holiday!) or turn on or off on a whim. No more having to flip a switch and remember or to shut it off. Absolutely great for those nights we come home late and don't want to leave the light on for a long period of time. Did i mention you can control it from anywhere? Exactly what i wanted, and works exactly what i need it for!

I bought this specifically for the infrared light it has, since my baby monitor's infrared went out. It has been awesome to replace that. Even when the infrared is set at 25% it is still plenty to light up the kiddo's bedroom.
I also like it as a night light that I can turn off without going in the room once the kids are asleep.
I've used it to help teach the kids about time as well, setting it to turn on and green when it is time to get up from bed or nap.
All in all, it has been great for our use. It was a little expensive, and occasionally the connection to it drops.

Almost a year into using this bulb and it’s awesome! Two main reasons why I wanted this bulb: 1) Apple HomeKit and 2) the infrared tech. Main ecosystem at my household is HomeKit and the setup was simple. Though I will say that it has it’s moments when there’s “no response”, but it’s not often. The infrared tech is awesome. We have a baby camera in my daughter’s room, but the night vision on the camera blows. When researching this bulb, I read that it helps with security cameras in dark rooms. So I went on limb and decided to try it out. So glad I did. The infrared light brightens up the whole room and can see everything on the monitor now. Well worth the money, especially when they go on sale!

These bulbs are not glitch-free. I have bought many (too many) of 4 different varieties of the LIFX bulbs including some of the color strips. Just doing a quick count in my head, I got to a number well over 2 dozen. I guess I have about 30 LIFX lights now. There is the occasional annoying issue with needing to reset or 'unfind' and then 'find' some of the bulbs again, but not too often.
Ultimately, for me, the convenience and life improvement of having these outweighs the slightly less than perfect operation, though admittedly I am not wealthy enough to justify the expense. - Lastly, after using these a good long while and gaining some experience with other 'smart home' products, I will mention that I feel confident that the 'no bridge or hub required' LIFX choice was the right one for my needs compared to the Hue option. However, I should also share that I have no firsthand experience with the Hue lights. Oh yeah... I will add that the infrared feature on the 'Plus' bulbs is indeed somewhat effective with security cameras. Of course, if the area receiving the additional infrared light is in the distance from your security camera, you are still faced with the limited detail that provides. 'Bad guy closer to camera' equals 'bad guy with more pixel detail'. While it is true that there is the effect of a 'brighter' image when your lights are off (IR still on) and your camera is in Infrared mode, in my scenario I'm not sure I am gaining a great deal more visual clarity at the far end of the room where the bad guy is more likely to be recorded before all my other security measures engage and he or she runs off. Slightly off-topic... my newer outdoor camera installations are probably a more effective security step than my indoor cameras, and the outdoor LIFX + bulbs should help with infrared outdoors as well. (I haven't started using any LIFX bulbs outside yet.) - Hope all that rambling helps somebody. :-)
