Customers are positive about the AC1200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router's ease of use, range, performance, and signal strength, with many praising its simple setup and strong, reliable connection. However, some customers reported occasional connection problems and found the router to be somewhat large. Positive feedback also highlighted the router's good coverage, price, and dual-band capabilities. A few users mentioned experiencing lag, though this was not a widespread concern.

Works Just As It Should

I received this as a free sample unit for review.
It is not the fastest router from Linksys, but it meets my needs for a home router very well. It seems to do everything is it specified to do, and does it all very well. It replaced my Linksys (Cisco) E2500 router, which is a few years old (dual-band 802.11n).
The WRT1200AC has good range and power for a home unit. Mine is located at the front of the second floor of our brick house. The signal is weak but still usable (1 or 2 bars) at the back edge of our yard, about 90 feet away and through a couple of brick walls, several interior walls, and obliquely through an interior floor. There are some dead spots where the signal has to go through brick walls obliquely.
Setup was almost dead easy. I told the unit to use the same node name and passwords as the old unit, and most things (phones, laptops, TVs, printers) just synced up without noticing any difference. The only exception was a Panasonic "smart" TV that had to be reconfigured and then could find the router but not the network. That turned out to be a bug in the Panasonic software that tested the connection, and messed it up in doing so. It works fine if I just use it and don't test.
The Linksys "Smart Wi-Fi" web site is excellent. It provided you with a really good picture of what devices are on your home network, traffic, security settings, and much else, with a really excellent user interface -- and I'm very hard to please in this area. Right now, it shows 9 devices on the network, of which 5 are using 802.11AC and the rest some older protocol. My only gripe is that the "Speed Test" page requires Adobe Flash Player and Safari, so is useless to me.
I can't really comment on the speed of this thing, except to say that I haven't noticed anything like video buffering since I installed it -- but that's mostly at the mercy of my Internet provider in any case. As I upgrade various home devices one by one to the AC protocol, the speed should be better. Currently, it's just fine for my needs.
After two days I can't say much about reliability.

Hi, Scott,
Thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We're glad to know that you are enjoying its features but we've noticed your challenge with the router's wireless coverage. It's best if you'll try to reposition the antennas of the router or adjust the wireless channel. Those steps will help to prevent interference and improve the signal.

I have had several linksys/cisco routers to date and have been happy with them all. I just bought this unit only to find that you CANNOT backup and restore the configurations. This is a HUGE flaw in the unit's firmware design and I cannot believe it is the case. I called the tech support and they confirmed this fact. Very disappointed, so i will see if the unit properly works for the next week or two ... if not, it is back to Best Buy for return.

I was getting a message several times a day on my phone when I would check e-mails and such that said channel avoided poor connection from my Att wi-fi that was two rooms away in my Apt.-Frustrating and annoying and then you have to reconnect blah blah blah! I have not lost signal once and it always says 'signal strong and I am very pleased with the result! I received this from Linksys to install, test and review and I would purchase this myself after I have seen the strong reception results!

I got this router over a month ago and have been really impressed with it. I like its sleek new design and how the front is angled. The display lights are clear to understand and to me make it more appealing.
I was amazed at how easy it was to setup and love the coverage that I get with it compared to previous wireless routers that I have owned. I was able to quickly configure it to mirror the settings of my last router.

Horrible Signal Slow Speeds

I purchased this router to get rid of my Xfinity Modem Rental fee. Its a nice router and all and Linksys makes great products but this one is alright. The signal doesn't penetrate through many walls and the speeds slow down alot thus making me have to restart the router so it can work fine many times of the day. Instead i picked up a Netgear AC1750 RC6400 and its GREAT!!! Its so fast compared to this one for almost the same price

Initially, I tried to setup this range extender by using my tablet and cell phone. Both devices are running Android KitKat 4.4.2 & 4.4., respectively. I had tried for a few hours with different setting, browsers, and connection methods and ultimately I could not get either device to work. When I used my laptop, setup took less time that it took me to enter my WPA2 password. This method was flawless, fast, and very customizable. I had also reset the device, and tried the WPS button, which again was extremely fast.
I have been using this device for the last week as the main access point for all of my wireless devices and using the CrossBand feature to send my 2.4 GHz device data on the 5 GHz band. When I check the WLAN Statistics tab, I consistently see the backhaul wireless speeds maxed out, at least as high as my router can go. The RE7000 has allows me to more centrally locate this device, backhaul it to my main wireless router, and remove two more range limited devices without losing speed or drop-offs in my home.
In the last 2 weeks since I have been testing this device, the only negative reaction I had is the lack of my Android devices being able to setup the device, which could a simple firmware update could fix. The only feature that I did not test with this device is the “Wired Range Extender (Access Point). I would recommend this device to and one who needs lots of coverage and has moderate to heavy wireless usage with the devices that connect to it.

I received this item from the manufacturer free of charge so that I would write an unbiased review. I am using the router in a single story 1700 square foot house. Before installing this router I could barely get internet reception outside my office. After installation I haven't had any issues with streaming slowdown or buffering.

This router has a great signal and strength. Completely changed my WiFi experience at home. I have 11 devices that stream content and combined with my fast internet speeds, it handles the job very well. It allows me to take advantage of my full 200 mbps download with a wired connection and gets me about 150 wireless on average. Very pleased.

I purchased this router because Linksys has always allowed for MAC filtering by times (turns off the kids' devices at bedtime) over our current Netgear device. Disconnecting the existing router, powering down the modem, connecting WAN cable from modem and Ethernet from PC to WRT1200AC, powering on modem, powering on WRT1200AC will not connect to Internet. Resetting WRT1200AC then powering the two devices on in the reverse order to no avail. Reconnected old modem without power cycling the modem and all devices connected normally.
In addition, the default router password (used for configuring offline) was not included in documentation provided. I tried many of the usual default combinations before I found it (password, <blank>, admin). The Linksys default 192.168.1.1 proved to log in and the wireless SSID and encryption were very easy to update. Unfortunately, without Internet access, the WRT1200AC failed to fully setup.
I will be returning it tomorrow.

I had bought this to replace the router from the cable company--i got angry with another price increase and switched to Fios before i could set up the router. After some tinkering i ADDED this to Fios network and the range is awesome. I get another 20ft of signal in my yard and there is no sacrifice in speed

After receiving this product through the Linksys friends and family program I configured it to provide a separate wireless network for my work computer. Easy to setup and I was able to connect it to my WRT 1900AC without issue. Now I have a wireless network that my children won't be joining.

5G Band Drop-out
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I am having continuous problems with 5G band. The 5G band frequently disconnects/dropouts while 2.4 GHz band seems okay. I tried several things, moving router to different places, keeping the access device very close to the router, updating firmware, reinstalling the router again and again, changing the channels, but nothing seems working. This happens not just in one device, but in several devices. I am aware this kind of 5G dropout was an issue in the earlier Linksys models, but it seems Linksys still has not improved its hardware/firmware, but only keep setting the price to high. This does not work as dual band router at all.
