Tech support (HUGE language barrier, beware if you need to call them) took me through the requisite steps which I had already done, then told me to take it back. I put in an AC1900 and it connected the first time.

Hooking up the EA6350 Router should always be easy using the Smart Setup embedded on its firmware which allows you to run the setup from your PC's web browser or a mobile device.
