This unit burnt out on me in less than 2 years. If I hadn't purchased the extended warranty I would have been out of pocket for a whole nother one. Shouldn't have to buy extended warranties for products.

we spent 5 hours, 2 hours on the phone with Linksys, the router would not connect to wifi. Linksys tech was no help, said he would have a more advanced tech call us. The advanced tech did call but it was 4 days later. We returned the router and purchased a netgear router.

Lost of connectivity (signal) every once in a while , not friendly at the time to configurate advanced mode, slow (speed) , not enough features to configurate (only basic) not for an advanced user.

Hi omicronix,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. This may be due to wireless interference with other networks or devices in range with your router. Changing the wireless channel is a good move to avoid intermittent internet connection. Preferred channels to use are 1, 6, and 11 since they're considered as non-overlapping channels. Make sure that your firmware is also up to date. If the connection will not improve, you can reply to us via [email protected] with your contact details, location, and the link to this post.

Initial issues resolved

When I initially hooked up this router, my connection dropped off for a couple of minutes periodically on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands on multiple devices. I made one call to customer support instead of returning it and they had me hard set the channels for both bands. I did not think it would work, but I have not had trouble since. The speed has been good. I set up a plex media server and use it with multiple phones and tablets, a couple smart TV's and a smart DVD player. How well it works seems to depend on the quality of the device playing the media, not the router because on the newer devices, things work very well. I can even access the media server from outside my house. That is limited only by my DSL upload speed. I wish the app had more features. It is nice to monitor what devices are on my network from outside my house, but I would like easier access to the external USB device I have attached. The Plex media server fixes some of this issue, but there are some things I cannot do with Plex that I would like to be able to do and the seemingly simple external drive access setup didn't work for me. Inside my house I can use it no problem, but outside my house I have not been able to use it. I could have tried longer, but it wasn't trivial. I shopped around for a new router for a long time, and overall I am pleased with my choice.

Great Router and Awesome Parental Controls

If you are parent looking to control your kids' internet access buy a Linksys. I tried a Netgear first and had to return it because it had no ability to restrict access by device. Linksys does. Set-up was a breeze, up and running in minutes. Parental controls a snap. Web-based control dashboard I can access from anywhere. iOS and Android apps so we can control it from our phones. Now I can easily maintain a daily schedule for each device when it is allowed to access the internet. At precisely 9:03 the night I set it up the kids come running up to me...."Daddy, there's something wrong with the wifi...we can't connect." No, my darling children, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the wifi...it's working PERFECTLY!!!

Worked great for 4 months...and then not

This router was super easy to set up and we were up and running in like 15 minutes. The range was not as great as with our old AirPort Extreme but it was fine for what we needed and I like the parental controls. This router worked great for 4 months and then it stopped sending IP addresses to several of my devices (my thermostat and printer). Nothing we did would fix the problem. Eventually, I called customer service so many times that they offered to replace the router...which was, and continues to be, a huge headache. I'm not confident that the new model will work any better.

I bought this router on black friday. Had it out of the box, plugged in and operating our household network in about 20 minutes. I have a smaller tri-level home and there are no connectivity issues anywhere so far. The online tools are nice including the parental controls. I had one small issue connecting a smart tv. For some reason it wouldn't connect on the 2.4 ghz frequency but it had no issues connecting to the 5 ghz frequency. It might be that I already had about seven devices hooked up to the lower frequency, but I'm not sure as they weren't all in use. It was a non issue.

I wanted to upgrade my exising Linksys router to one with Wireless AC and dual-band capabilities, and initially chose a NetGear model that was personally recommended by a store associate. I had problems with the wireless connection dropping internet, so it went back in less than 1 week. Since I had a good track record with Linksys (had 2 previously) I went with this one, and am extremely happy I did.
First of all the setup was super easy. I also was happy that this one, like my previous ones, was wall mountable, as the NetGear was not.
The Wi-Fi Protected Setup is a quick and easy way to connect devices. The overall increase in speed is very nice. The wireless internet has been reliable. I expect another great an long relationship with this product.

Good Speeds / Horrible Range

Had to replace an old Linksys E3200 after 3 years because it started going haywire. The range on that old router was excellent in our 2 story home. Decided to stay with Linksys and purchased the AC1600 on Monday. The speeds on the new router were excellent, unfortunately, the range was atrocious. Odd how my old router had a better range than the new one. Wonder if that is why the router was on sale for $89 from $149. Returned it to Best Buy today and purchased the ASUS RT-N66R Dual Band N900. So far the speeds are just as fast and the coverage is excellent. Also, ASUS has a 2 year warranty on their routers unlike Linksys and NetGear which only give a 1 year warranty.

Security cameras volatile

Router was nothing to set up; but when it came time to configure for security camera's, Best Buy and Linksys service were horrible. They are the entire reason for the downgraded review. I am not a techie but figured how to get a static system by configuring the wireless set up when neither of them could. I was 24 hours from returning this thing because the wireless connection kept dropping. Changed both 2.4 and 5.0 channels and width, reselected any field with the word "auto" to a "static" field. Now the cameras work without dropping.
