The only drawback of this router, and it's a significant one, is that it forces an internet connection to even begin to configure it. In the event it is to be used as an access point for an existing network, it must first be configured as a primary router w/ internet access, thus disrupting the existing network in the process. In the event the router is to be configured at one location prior to installing it at another location (for example, you're assisting a family member and want to configure it ahead of time) it won't be possible unless it is connected to an internet source. The above two scenarios were exactly what I experienced with the two examples of this router which I have purchased so far. It's a significant inconvenience, and totally unnecessary. I can only assume this requirement for live internet for configuration is prevalent across the entire line of Linksys/Belkin routers. I'll be looking for more flexible options at my next router purchase.

Replaced a Linksys "N" with Linksys Max-stream 1900.

Had to argue to get it. Now even my wife loves it.

Easy to setup out of the box but don't plan to have reliable Internet. The signal strength is great but it drops Internet connection. It would drop connection several times an hour. A coworker pointed me to LinkSys Support to alter the MTU. That helped but still had slow connection on devices and it would still drop. I had to recalculate the settings multiple times. BB allowed me to get a simular ASUS router and I had no trouble with it.

Bought this router at Best Buy and it worked fine for a little over a year, but one month after the tech support/warranty expired it completely shut down. The wireless network disappeared, power cycling had no effect, it would not connect to my computer via hardline so I could not check or update the firmware, and freaking reset button didn't even work. I tried to call linksys tech support, but they seemed more like a sales team. They refused to even talk with me about potential issues unless I purchased additional tech support, which I was dubious to do since the product mysteriously shut down just a month after my original tech support expired, and the supervisors were always conveniently in a meeting and unavailable. After doing more extensive research online I found that this is representative of linksys' mo, they seem to view extended tech support as an additional revenue stream and it has been suggested that they engineer their products to require this additional support. I highly recommend going with a different company that stands behind the quality of their products.

If you like constantly having your internet drop and having random devices show that you are connected to the network but not actually have internet then this router is perfect. I am on my second replacement of this router and each time, the router performed the same...terribly. The router constantly drops internet, sometimes as often as ten times a day, which requires either a power cycyle or a hard reset. Only to repeat the issue a few hours later. I often receive messages while streaming movies that my network is underperforming and the program will freeze for a period of time. Lastly, random devices (i.e. brand new I Pads/Phones) will randomly not connect to the network, despite showing as connected. I will have to toggle between the 2.4 and 5 ghz network to be able to use the internet. I found myself use my data plan instead of my network, which is not what I should be doing in my own home. I guess there is a reason this product is always on sale....it doesn't actually work. Fortunately, the mfg (after several calls, and hours on the phone, conducting trouble shooting) is going to work with me and provide me with a different model. Hopefully that fixes the problems so I can go back to a normal life and not constantly resetting the router.
