Always disconnects from each other have to constantly change channels on network. As of today the entire thing doesnt work hard wired into my spectrum Modem i get 1033 mbps down and 36 mbps up. Through the mesh tower hard wired and wireless i get 23 mbps down and 2.3 mbps up. This was a great system when it worked now its a brick. Hopefully the protection plan from bestbuy allows me to swap it out for a replacement.

      Hi ErikC,

It's uncommon for the Linksys Atlas Max to exhibit this behavior. Our Escalation Engineers are keen to delve deeper into this for a lasting solution. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected], providing your contact information and referencing this review.
In the meantime, we suggest the following steps that might help address the problem:
      1) Confirm that all nodes are using the latest firmware and are positioned away from any physical obstructions.
      2) Test with an alternative ethernet cable.

This is my 3rd Linksys Velope mesh WiFi system I have bought. I have owned all linksys velope model and all of them have been very reliable. It’s very easy to set up. I even recommend to my friend and his family loves it as there is no slowdown or WiFi blindspot. This one is very good for my home as I have 1 gig speed and I have consistently received 850 mbps o more no matter where I am in my house or in the front/back yard. Highly recommend product and worth the price.

I have been searching for an improvement to my NEST wifi ever since google reduced the number of pucks to 5 and recently it seems they cut it down to 4, plus the Google app is clunky. I previously bought Amplifi thinking I could get away with 3 base stations but that was not the case, so I have tried this system since it was on sale for Black Friday PROS: - 3 days in, So far very reliable - Signal strength is good but not as good as Amplifi - You can ban websites for certain devices (nice feature I have not seen in other apps) CONS: - The app is slow. If you have it loaded and open again after an hour, you will have to terminate it and open again or you will be staring at a spinny thing. I use the app a lot to manage kids time, so this is a deal breaker for me. - You cannot group devices into kids/TV/etc to enforce a schedule - You cannot give kids time easily in increments. e.g. 15 or 30 more mins (not a problem if you don't have kids) - Power plug is truly a marvel of incompetence. I did see other reviewers mention it but I did not think much of it. It is really shaped poorly and makes the whole outlet/strip unusable. - The app is built for Android - My fav engineer fail is the list of 5 last connections that lists the last 5 devices but you cannot do anything with that list, you cannot tap a device, you cannot manage it, nothing. However, it is the main feature of the app when you open. Why? I am going with Amplifi. I bought it and returned 2 months ago due to cost/coverage but it is so much more in terms of app and the unit - seems better experience. This is nice hardware but app is lacking.

Truly blows away the others I’ve owned! Make sure you set it up using the web interface, do NOT use the app. I set mine up using the app at first and almost returned, I was getting about 1/3 the speed from Comcast gigabit service because I used the app the first time.. Once I setup through the web interface and just selected “add child node” under connections, I started getting 750+ gbps throughout the house. I get approx 950-980gbps within 10 feet of and node.

I needed to have solid WiFi mesh system for both my wife and I since were both wfh. I recently order AT&T WiFi 6 mesh service, while that worked very well, when it worked? That’s the key, it was so unstable keep dropping off the modem. Had to make decision to purchase WiFi mesh that’s stable and fast and using the latest technology because I don’t want keep buying these WiFi mesh every year. Want to invest in a technology that’s good for atleast 5-7 years. First of all all my device for now are WiFi 5 devices what an improvement over the AT&T mesh system, where I was getting 200-400mbs this Linksys mx8500 I’m average 440mbs that’s the slow speed 570 mbs is the faster speed that on WiFi 5 devices. Rock solid, no drops no rebooting no worries now! I like each unit can work as it’s own router as well as 2 child nodes, one of nodes are connected to Ethernet as back haul. 4 gigabytes port plus usb 3.0 for storage and 5gbps connection makes this very versatile no more using external router to the nodes, less space less power less cords. So expensive yea, but does it work, is it future proof for next 5-7 years answer yes yes yes…

Atlas Max AXE84 has Critical Manufacturing Issues

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After 3 years of almost flawless usage of my Orbi mesh system, I decided to take the 6E plunge. Over the last 120 days, I've installed two different sets of Atlas Max 6E 3 pack in my home. At the time, Orbi 6E was unavailable, so I decided to try the AXE8400s. My experience in the past 25 years with Linksys has been up and down (mostly down), but I thought with some of the positive reviews I would give these a try. I've been in networking and security for over 30 years with a Masters in Network Engineering and 18 industry certifications. I've installed and configured hundreds of networks from friends homes to (mostly) Fortune 100 and 500 companies. Unfortunately, the units kept dropping connections indiscriminately and with a host of different IOT devices ( 85 smart devices - Mac, iPhone, iPad, Tivo, Apple TV, Hue devices, Samsung Refrigerator, Arlo cams, MyQ garage doors, Ring cams, Logi Cams, PS5s, Wemo plugs, Alexa units, etc.). This happened about 1 or 2 times per day on the first set of routers I bought. After troubleshooting using various tools and packet analyzers (i.e. Wireshark and others), it seemed there was something wrong with the router itself but tried to rule out some things none the less. All of the obvious suspects. Good cables - check, latest firmware - check, direct line of site - check, interference - check, distance - check, device configuration - check, good connection blue light - check, check, and check. After tiring of rebooting these twice a day and hearing my sons complaining about their Playstation dropping, I re-installed my old Orbi's and for a blessed week, had no issues. A gluten for punishment, I was determined to get these to work, so I returned to BestBuy and got a fresh new trio. BTW.. BestBuys Elite Plus membership is great. You get 3 times the return period than normal customers. Also, Total Tech Support is Total Worth the Price. I don’t use the tech support as I'm in the business, but the included extended warrantee is worth the cost alone (especially for apple products). In any event, after buying a second round of routers, I installed once again. I have to say, the installation process on these are really easy and intuitive (hence my 4 starts on "Ease of Use"). They seem pretty solid constructions as well. Unfortunately, these are their two best and only qualities since ultimately these too had dropping issues... at least 4 times a day - worse than the first ones. Very odd behavior as sometimes the guest wifi would work and the primary wifi segment wouldn't and vice versa. After testing another several weeks and contact with LInksys support, I once again hooked up my Orbi's and haven't had a problem since. My guess is these units have manufacturing issues as some reviewers are having a great experience while other are having the dropped connection issue. Covid has played havoc on the manufacturing of many goods and more than likely this is the root cause. My guess is that's what is happening to a large segment of these routers since I purchased one online and the other at a store. My suggestion would be to not purchase these until Linksys corrects the problem. I dont think these can be fixed with with firmware. I would consider Orbi's which are better engineered, manufactured, perform higher and more reliable. The Asus Zenwifi are pretty good also. I'd like to be able to tell you that one particular company has better support than the others, but they all have horrible support since offshoring. As mentioned before, Linksys has not been a favorite of networking professionals and it seems like they still hold that stigma. Orbi might we the way to go until Linksys addresses their problem.

I have installed this one in about 45 minutes via the app. I also factory reset my old nodes and linked them to this set. The advertizment is true it you cannuse older nodes to make a better mesh system. Now I have greate signal all over my house and in the backyard. I have 80 connected devices running smoothly.

I upgraded to this device from my v1 linksys velop wifi 5 setup. Let me say that the velop worked nearly flawlessly always being fast and not dropping. Both the 2.4 and 5ghz frequencies. So let's talk about this product. I returned this and swapped it out for another because I thought I had an issue. As long as I connect using the 2.4GHz frequency, my devices stay connected and everything works well. The speeds aren't as fast because 2.4 can't reach the faster speeds like the 5GHz frequency. On the 5GHz setup, it constantly disconnects or connects at very low speeds. It starts off fast but then gets slower than the 2,4 and then might bounce back up in speed. Very unstable. This is happening on all my devices on 5Ghz. I phones, iPad, MacBook, Asus laptops (multiple), surface pro 8, surface Duo 2, etc... I list all these because linksys thought it was just one device that was having issues when it's my entire site. Again this is the second set of devices I've had. This is also happening even if the connection is 802.11 ac or ax. I had to separate the frequencies in order to keep a stable connection on the 2.4 until linksys can come out with a fix. While I'm sure they will come out with a fix, I just hope it is soon. I think the reason most people don't know they are having a problem is because they aren't separating the frequencies and their devices are failing on the 5,and auto reconnecting on the 2,4. I have no devices to test the 6GHz frequency so I can't tell you if that one is having a problem too. The admin interface and options are essentially the same as they were on the velop. So not much has changed there. Would really love it if linksys would give advanced users the option to have more advanced features and settings.

    Doesn't work with Gigabit FIOS

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have Gigabit Verizon FIOS (1gb down / 1gb up). So far, these units are OK with download speed (~850-880 mbps) but are terrible with upload. I am only getting 14-22 mbps upload speed (AT THE ROUTER) when I should be getting almost 1,000. WiFi-6 client speeds hover around 250-270mbps down / 4.0mbps up. When I put in an older Netgear wifi-6 router, I get 950mbps/950mbps up and down (at the router). When I plug a client directly into my Verizon ONT, I get the full 950/950. Problem is clearly with these Linksys units. Hopefully a firmware revision will resolve. But don't buy yet if you are a Verizon FIOS customer. Also, anyone who considers themselves the least bit computer savvy, might be disappointed by the lack of options in the router management dashboard.

Left Linksys years ago for Netgear. When it came time to update my not so out of date Netgear, the latest Linksys mesh caught my eye. They appeared to be a tad ahead of everyone one as it relates to features, and the app is a big improvement over what I had with Netgear. Not cheap, but none of the latest WiFi 6e models are. At least for now.
