Easy to setup, fast router
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For some reason with my old Asus router, I was only getting 20mbps down on wireless on my Surface Book 2. With this router I am getting my max ISP speed of 220mbps on wireless, An amazing upgrade. Setup of the router was fairly painless. Unfortunately the instructions that came with the router were just "install linksys app", and I didn't know I should wait until I got a purple blinking dot before trying to start the setup process with the app. Once I figured that out, it took me through the setup process step-by-step and it was completely painless. it goes through every step, asking simple questions to save everyone a headache and unnecessary support calls for simple troubleshooting, and fixing simple mistakes. The result was a Wifi that I had up and running within 5 minutes. You can control most, if not all the router settings with the App on your phone, but you can also use the web interface. Being someone who is usually tasked with helping others setup their wifi, I feel confident that most people would be able to setup their wifi on their own with this router, and I think performance will leave those people happy.

You wont be disappointed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used Linksys routers almost exclusively for almost 20 years... From college, to now in my own home, I've always preferred Linksys for their easy setup, dependable performance, and now their user interface and app which is very user friendly... This router is no different. I'm currently running The Linksys Velop system in my home and there is an area that gets lower coverage, so I added this to my system, and moved a node closer to that area and now I have full WiFi coverage and no issues streaming at all. I like that this devise acts as just another node for me and my system, I can continue to add nodes as I need converge or want to have coverage on our outdoor detached patio, etc... This system really is future-proof. I really appreciate the parental controls on this and device, with kids in the home it makes it simple to control what they're doing, and when they have access. I love that. Speeds on this are perfect, I have several wireless security cameras in my home, PlayStation, tablets, cell phones, smart TV's, robot vacuums, etc, etc, and can still stream movies and TV just fine! I would absolutely recommend this.

Really Fast Wireless Router, Weak Administration
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first thing to know is that the Linksys MR9000 is a really fast router. Really, really fast! Like there is almost no difference in latency between gigabit Ethernet connected devices and wireless to wireless devices. The performance is truly impressive. Wireless coverage is about average, I was able to connect throughout the house and back yard although performance fell off the further away I got. This is really less a comment about the router than about the limits of WiFi. The ability to expand coverage with a mesh using the Linksys Velop nodes is a real plus for anyone with local dead spots in their wireless network. Setup was easy, almost trivial. Out of the box, the router antennas unfold, plug in the included wall wart, connect the included ethernet cable to the port marked "internet" and your modem and you're ready to go. The included instructions essentially say "Go get the (Android/IOS) app(this is where to find it) and do what it tells you to do." Download the app, look for the Linksys default local wireless network, plug in the key (on the bottom of the router), and you're ready to configure. Set up your local SSID, WiFi password and security, and you're pretty much done. There are some other settings (guest network, port forwarding and filtering, parental controls), but those are not necessary to get up and running. One other plus, the Linksys app runs on ChromeOS, so you can load the Linksys app on your Chromebook. One significant plus was that the Linksys MR9000 was able to set up through another router, which was running NAT. While not a usual configuration, it allowed me to test the Linksys before actually installing it as my edge router. It could conceivably be used to provide a second WiFi network in this configuration. There are a few limitations that make this router less than perfect. The first is the lack of a web interface for configuration. It's convenient when you're on a laptop to be able to just pop up a browser window without having to fumble for your phone. Next, the USB port is currently not functional; it's marked for 'future expansion'. Would be nice to be able to use it for a printer, storage, or logging. Finally, the web app is pretty average in the controls and monitoring it offers, it would be nice to have more control and visibility into the router. Hopefully these shortcomings will be addressed in an update. Overall, the performance and mesh expansion via Velop nodes really make this a winner and well worth your consideration.

worked well but
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this was a big pick up from my 10 year old router. However I have gig speed internet service and modem, however only standing next to the router can i hit 300 mbps. Trying to figure out what the disconnect is, but otherwise a good router.

Great Follow-Up to the MR8300
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Linksys MR9000 is basically the successor to the MR8300 released earlier this year. It offers the same features, but adds improved range and throughput. The MR8300 is certainly no slouch and has been one of the most reliable routers I have used. Granted I have only been testing the MR9000 for a week, but thus far seems to be following in its siblings footsteps. To put things in context I live in a 4,000 sq. ft. two story home. The MR9000 offers coverage across both floors and I have not found any dead-spots to speak of. Wireless performance on 802.11AC is solid and on the main floor within 20 ft. of the router I see speeds exceeding 600mbps to my laptop. It very well could go faster, but I think I am hamstrung by the wireless performance of my laptop. At the extreme other end down in my basement on the opposite side of the house I can still get a very respectable 240mbps. Overall, I haven't seen better AC performance. I have on average 32 devices on my network and have not experienced any dropped connections to this point. I can stream 4K video to my living room, YouTube to multiple iPads, and my oldest son can be doing competitive online gaming in the basement simultaneously with ease. I would be remiss to not include that like the MR8300, the MR9000 also offers Linksys' mesh networking technology. This means you can add 'nodes' throughout the home to help boost wireless connectivity for trouble-spots one might have. The difference in using mesh technology as opposed to the the range extenders of before is that they offer a dedicated backhaul channel that does not tie up the main wireless spectrum. In other words, wireless throughput is maintained. The MR9000 also has four gigabit ethernet ports as well. I would have liked to seen more, but I'm a special use case in the number of wired devices I used in my home too. The MR9000 offers ease of setup through the Linksys app and took less than 5 minutes to be up and running. The app offers a full complement of controls and can also be accessed outside the home if one wishes. While the MR9000 isn't for tweakers it does have a a complete set of controls for anyone looking to setup a reliable home network. Parental controls are a highlight and offer specific device scheduling to keep kids from sitting on their computers all day. Build quality is excellent and the unit is relatively compact compared to some of the AX monsters on the market today. The biggest thing for me is the Wi-Fi reliability. I travel a fair bit so when I'm gone I don't want my family complaining that they can't get online because of dropouts or other hangups. So far the MR9000 hasn't let me down. I am hopeful that next year's iteration will adopt 802.11AX. Yes, I only have one device with AX capability, but the standard is coming and more devices will support it with time. Regardless, nice job again Linksys. The MR9000 is another solid entry into the wireless networking game.
