Does the job but nothing great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is being used in a PC in the basement and our new Linksys router is in the attic. Not the greatest connection. However, I think it's more the router's fault rather than the USB link. The newer routers just don't seem to be as good as the older ones.

Buy something else
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Linksys - Dual-Band Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter Model: AE2500-NP | SKU: 6571616 and the Linksys - Dual-Band Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter Model: AE2500-NP | SKU: 6571616 together because the salesman told me I would “issues” with my old router. My old router went years without a failure. This configuration fails several times a day. It is configured with smoke and mirrors so you can’t fix it without access to the company propriety information.

Disappointing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably my house and the room is located a fair distance from the Router but I never got it to work and continued using the Netgear wireless USB adapter I was using previously.

not the greatest product around
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first one of these did not work, this one works ok.I expected it to be great ,it is not! Have a few Cisco products in the house that work REALLY well!

May work in a suitable environment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wouldn't recommend if you are using on a computer not in the same room as your router. Mine is only 2 rooms away from the router on the same floor. Even with the doors open, I usually only have one bar on the Network Magic connection map. The connection is slow and sometimes is lost. I guess the next step is paying another $80 for a signal booster, but this seems unreasonable. Even a cell phone will pick up the wi-fi signal outside the house at a reasonable speed.

Easy to install, but lousy signal
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to try and replace/upgrade one from TP-Link (with antenna) that appeared to have connection issues. This one was way worse. TP would connect with 150Mbps, but not always stay connected. This one would only get 5Mbps and also not stay connected. Problem was my base station location. Once i moved that, TP-LInk was far better and always connected. I returned this one.

Does not work with Linux
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does not claim to work with Linux OS. Bought anyway to try it on Linux. No Linux drivers available. May work fine on Windows.

Waste of money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was represented as being capable of being a suitable alternative to running a cable to my second floor. This had zero reception on 5 GHz from the router in my basement. The 2.4 GHz transfer speeds were far less than either of my laptops that I used right next to the PC I had this hooked up to. Essentially useless.

Posted .Hello there, TiredRemodeler. We appreciate your straightforward assessment of the AE2500 and our apologies for the inconvenience. We'd like to assist you with your concern.
The 2.4GHz band has a slower wireless signal than the 5.0 GHz band. However, it has a much longer range than the latter. The 5.0GHz band's range is up to 5 to 10 feet (line-of-sight). Wireless interference can also cause intermittent connections.
The transfer speeds would depend on the processor speed as well as the operating system of the computer where the AE2500 is attached.
You can try adjusting the wireless channel of your router to either 1, 6, or 11 (for 2.4 GHz) and 36, 40, or 44 (for 5.0GHz) to minimize these interference and optimize your router's wireless performance and signal throw.
Should you have other Linksys queries that need our assistance, do not hesitate to email us. We are available 24/7 to assist you. Our email address is [email protected].
All the best.
Sincerely,
Linksys Support

Do not buy if you use Windows 8
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this anticipating it to have issues, but was hopeful since other windows 8 users had had success with it. The installation was a BREEZE and the connection (when it had one) was fast. However, not only did I have to remove and reinsert the adapter every time I left my computer for a few moments to get the connection back, it dropped repeatedly while I was actively using my computer. I returned it at Best Buy and replaced it with the Belkin N600 (higher MSRP but it was on sale for less than this one) and not only was installation just as easy, I have a full 5 bars and no dropped connection since it was installed. This unit toggled between 3 and 4 bars when it was working. I am very happy to have made the switch away from this one. Also keep in mind this doesn't have any driver updates specifically for Windows 8 on the Linksys site, while the Belkin N600 does!

Works great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Linksys - Dual-Band Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter after moving the kid's desktop computer into another room that is inaccessible to the router. It just so happened that Best Buy had this one on sale when I made the computer move. The instructions were great and the network adapter was up and running in a few minutes. This is a great product and I would buy it again.

Plug it in and Go
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great product to turn your non-wireless computer (or other similar device) wireless. You simply open the package, follow the few, easy instructions, and boom, your old computer, etc. is now wireless. Very easy to use, and maintains a good connection.

Great wireless adapter at a 50 foot range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Based on Best Buy online recommendation for my criteria, ordered wireless router and this wireless network adapter online after midnight, picked up the order at local store in the morning near noon, installed and setup the wireless network and had it working by mid-afternoon. Excellent result for a first experience with wireless networking.
