    good entry level wireless gateway

I am an IT consultant and bought this for one of my customers to deploy a basic wireless network at their office. Its no frills and has basic firewall settings but does support the latest in wireless security WPA2. I normally stick to CISCO/Linksys products for their reliability. True they are little more expensive than other vendors like Netgear or Belkin or trendnet but they have seemed to be most reliable from my 10 years of experience. I do miss the ability to add higher gain external antennas like you could do with the older generations of WAPs.

Purchased this to use with my Exede Satellite internet service and it works very well. I was worried that it would be a problem to set it up using my Macbook Air, with no CD Drive for the Install CD, but it wasn't. The installation wizard directs you right to their website and lets you download the software. So, if you have an ultrabook that doesn't have a CD drive, no worries. It's quick to install, easy to set up, and does a great job providing me my interwebs. I've had it for 2 months now and haven't encountered any issues.

lightweight but fragile due to plastic. works great. I love the guest password feature so I don't have to give out my main WEP/WPA key to everyone. Worth it. Just be careful where you put it.

    Inconvenient Set-up For Mac OS X 10.9

    Posted .

This Linksys router is meant for easy setup--it includes a CD that works for either PC or Mac. However, the software included on the CD (or in the download offered on their website) does not support Mac OS X 10.9 (the most recent version). After about 10 minutes of going in circles on Linksys's site, I finally just had to manually set up the network. It's not difficult, but it's just inconvenient that they offer no support out of the box for an OS that's not particularly new. Other than that, this router works the way it's supposed to. Gets the job done for a great price.

Pros: - This was super easy to set up, and works perfectly for the price. - There are zero issues streaming over Wi-Fi and gaming through one of the ethernet ports on the router. Cons: - The router needs to be unplugged once a week or two when it loses internet connection.

Randomly dropped signal every day or two

I purchased this router to replace an older model Linksys router that was very reliable but just reached the end of its life. I thought Linksys was a safe brand to go with and the E1200 had similar specs to my old router. Boy was I wrong! The router was easy enough to setup, but the wireless signal kept dropping out of the blue every day or two. The strange part was any hardwired device would continue to work when the wireless signal dropped. I figure it had to be signal interference, but we don't have any other wireless devices in the home outside of our cell phones. I did some more research and found several references to other people with this line of routers having the same problem. I also tried just about every combination of settings in the admin portal to try to reduce the chances of interference. Ultimately I returned the device back to the store and got a different router that is performing much better. I like the Linksys brand, but this router is buggy at best and I can't in good conscience recommend a router that requires resetting every day or two.

Excellent for Home or Small Business

This is the first wireless router that I have purchased that is not a Netgear model. I love my Netgear equipment and have no complaints, but this was easier to install with the particular business office network that I have. Honestly, it is a very simple device that does what it is advertised to do, taking care of your home or business WiFi needs. It has an guest option that allows you to provide visitors with a separate password (or password-free) WiFi access. Speaking of passwords, I would recommend that you set a password for the router and put it in a safe place. While you can reset the router if you forget the password, it is simpler if that can be avoided. Simple product, great price, and it does the job perfectly. Yes, I highly recommend.

I purchased this router to replace the CenturyLink Zytel PK5001Z modem/router combo, for higher quality connection and improved usability. I had it out of the box and functioning in less than 10 minutes. So far our connectivity has greatly improved, and we are now able to stream Netflix and Hulu in the back of the house, where previously our CenturyLink modem/router failed. This product is well worth the money and a great alternative to modem/router combo products.

This has good enough range for a decent sized house. No bells and whistles. Does the job and pretty affordable if you need to run out and grab a router in a jam.
